AMARC or AMARG the boneyard at DM. Originally there were HC-130H's then HC-130P's some of the HC-130H's were converted to HC-130P's. Then HC-130N's came along in 1969 Much later around 1988, the ANG wanted more Rescue Herks, Robins in its infinite wisdom named them HC-130H(N) later it was changed to just HC-130N. There were 6 of them, four for Elmendorf and 2 for Suffolk County. Besides becoming HC-130P's some of the HC-130H's became WC-130H's, EC-130H's, MC-130P's, NC-130H, TC-130H and a DC-130H. Not to mention when they were first built there were JHC-130H's and a JHC-130P for testing and snatch birds. Bob

BTW, the list includes my latest update on the USN/USMC Herks. Note it looks like all the KC-130T's are gone from Carswell and they have so far received 5 J's Bob

Being out of the loop for so long, it is hard to keep up on the USAF changes. There have been lots of changes in the Herk community lately. Associate units at Cheyenne, Elmendorf and Pete have closed and their UE reduced to 8. 327 AS at LRF has closed or almost closed and the last I heard, they went from 17 to 2 Herks. The Guard and Reserve have been shuffling Herks to put similar model Herks in the same units. The older H2's have started to retire to the Boneyard. They are threatening to close the 95 AS and 2 AS at Pope again, and I just read a proposal to try to bring C-17's to Pitt to replace the Herks. From what I have been able to find I have tried to come up with a new Herk Inventory. I think I can attach it and would appreciate any corrections. Dutch and Fritz are both right. There were a few A's modified with 4 bladed props before 454's accident, but not many. After the accident in 75 and the report in 76, AF got serious and started to replace most of them in 1978. Bob

Hey I finally figured out how to add a picture, I think. Hope this works. I saw 2 interesting pics on the net yesterday. One was taken at Las Palmas Peru a suburb of Lima. It shows a Herk nose outside what I loosely translate as the Institute of Aerospace Medicine. I'm guessing an A or D as all Peru's L-100's had no lower windows. Anyone know which one? The other pic shows 162309 still with QH on the tail but sporting the number on the front. Last I heard it was at Point Mugu River and should have a tail code ED Bob

There were a lot of complaints about reliability and parts for the 3 bladed prop, but USAF did not care because they were all in the AFRES/ANG. On 26 July 1975, 63TAS A 57-0454 on a low level, #3 prop came apart, one of the blades took out #4, the aircraft rolled over and all were killed. It forced the USAF to start replacing all the three bladed props. Bob

50th has a lot of C-130 history going back to 1956 at Sewart I think, and of course SEA. Surprised they did not keep the lineage. Looking at active duty Squadrons in 130's, 50th and 61 go back to 1956, 39,40,41,62 go back to 1957, 36 and 37 go back to 1966. 48th has opened up 3 times first in 1963, and 2 AS came along in 1992. With AFRC maybe shutting down Pope is 2 AS going away? Is the 345th AD at Keesler still operating? How about the 815AS AFRC at Keesler also? I looked at the LRF website this AM and it still shows the 913 and 327 AFRC at LRF. Are they closed? Thankis Bob

Hi Mark 72-1293 (4506) went to AMARG on 27 Aug 2007. It is still there in the beer can section Area 21 as of December 72-1297 (4519) was destroyed on the ramp at TSN. Pics of 93 at AMARG and 97 at TSN are in the gallery. Bob

It is about time. Generals with heads up their butts should have done this years ago. Would have kept a lot of pilots from quitting the AF so they could get a real flying job. The Army Navy and Marines have been doing it for years. Good thing they have glass navels so they can see where they are going. Bob

Just read the Robins article. Years ago we used to take herks to Fairchild at St Pete, Hayes later PEMCO at BHM and Aero Corp at Lake City for IRAN later PDM. All those facilities are closed and the only places I have heard lately for PDM are Robins and Hill and places overseas. Does anyone else do Herk PDMs in the US anymore? Bob

Has anyone seen N119TG and N120TG flying in 2015? I have not seen any pictures of them this year. I did hear that 119 flew recently. If you get a pic of them in 2015, please post. Thanks bob

There were 8 Roman nosed A's that became gunships. 53-3129, 54-1623 and 54-1625 to 1630. I think all of them except 54-1626 which was the test model had new radomes installed when converted to gunships. 54-1626 eventually got a new radome. There are a few pics of 1626 as a Roman nose gun ship in the gallery. Bob
