  3. That ride brought back memories.
  4. Ronsram, did you know Jack Hilton? He got there in Sept. 63 and was assigned 4442 OMS. I don't know when he left. I do know he reuped one time.
  5. That Doppler Mod. at Dyess was done in the SAC area by civlians. I dropped my security badge one day and one of the workers saw I didn't have it on and called a 7 high on me. I had my badge in my hand when the AP,s got there, but they carried me in anyway.
  6. Somewhere around March, April or May of 64 we carried 56-468 to Dyess AFB to have some doppler modifications. Could have been to add APN 58 or 59 I don't remember which. 468 was the first one we carried out there and took the longest to modify. I don't remember how many planes we carries out there for the mod. We were also told it was so they could fly over the oceans. Me and Red Hutchins went with the 468. There was a Sgt Harbison that was assigned to 468 as CC for the Mod. We got a big dislikeing for each other while at Dyess. When we got back to Sewart he complained to Wysocki and told him he didn't want me on His plane anymore. Sgt Shifflett was in the room and told Wysocki that he wanted me on his plane so I worked for Shifflett the rest of the time I was at Sewart. Shifflet Carried his family to Naha and I was on his plane over there also. Around Aug, or Sept. 64 we started takeing the planes to Clark, and had to "Island Hop" for fuel reasons.
  7. Picture of Sewart Flt Line in this thread.
  8. Someone posted a picture of the Sewart Flt line in the early 60,s. I could make out some of the Roman Noses in the picture. I forgot where the picture is now.
  9. Welcome Pat. Bid you by any chance know a Jack Hilton? He was in the 4442nd OMS. Last time I saw him he was an e5 same as a staff sargent while I was in. He had a 67 or 68 malibu ss and he came to the Davie Crocket hotel where me and my wife stayed a few days in 68. He was from around Ashville Nc. and we joined about the same time. We were also about the same age. After I got out in nov.66 I talked to his mother several times and one time she told me he was in SEA. I don't know if PCS or TDY.

    That C-130 Sound

We ony had Ground Idle, Flight Idle, and above, also reverse. I may be rong about this but the engines ran from 94% rpm to 103%. On the a models??? I got a bad case of CRS.
  13. Don't see them three blades very often anymore. Purdy.
  14. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KGYH Donaldson center is about 40 or so miles north by northwest from me. I worked there for LTV Electrosystems in 67 as quality control for C-130 IRAN. I think the name was later changed to E systems.

    That C-130 Sound

Going in on a dirt field and haveing a dust cloud around you.
  16. I had to go to a furneral close to the old Myrtle Beach AFB Wensday. We went back to the home of a relitave and were sitting in his garage whan a plane flew over. I told him it was a C-130, he said no its just some big old prop job. I got up went out and looked and it was a Herk and I tole him so. He said they do touch and goes quiet often and fly over his house in doing so. He was surprised to know I knew it by just the sound. Today on the way home we rode up highway 17 past where the old base was and saw where the houses had been torn down. That part was all grown up. It has been some time since I have been by there. I also think there is an airline using the old runways. We used to go camping and watch the Warthogs take off out over the beach.

    TAD

I remember sitting at the nav table looking at those things, now that I know what it is. I think one was on the plane for every military runway in the US, while I was at Sewart. When we went to Clark we had them for different areas.

    B-25 Stuff

I just inherited some of my Father-in-laws books on the B-25. Got an Allison operators manual, A pilots information file and his tec manual. I knew he was on Guam durning WW11 and was an aircraft mechanic, but we never talked much about it. I think he got out about 1945, the year me and his oldest daughter were born. Yep I got the little sister born in 1947. He passed away 25 years ago. His wife kept this stuff since his death and she passed away on Easter Sunday. I was happy to get these books.
  19. This came from a Sam Mcgowen site. Does it look like the 3 and 4 props are feathered? I hope they don't mind if I borrow this photo.
  20. The only hot food we had was what we heated with the hand held signal light.
  21. I only worked on the "A,s" no galley.

    Bird Question

There are 3 birds that have no rectum, therefore they are not etable. I know some of you learned this in survival school. Which birds are they? I think Vulture is one of them. I could be rong.
  23. On a run at Sewart we did jump the front chock on an engine run. I don't remember if I was running or on the ground headset. I was in the cockpit. We towed it to the runup row and parked it, then set up for the engine run, and we were useing the big heavy chocks. When we shut down the GTC the ATM was also shut down and the break selector switch remained in the Emerg. position. When we went from Gi. to Fi. we felt a bump like we were at full power. Somehow we noticed the break switch and went from Gi. to reverse until we got the pressure built back up. This was on an "A" model. No report was made and no damage was done. We knew the error of our way. If I remember correctly the ATM provides pressure for the breaks in the emergency position and one of the other systems provides pressure for the normal break position. Guess I been haveing innernet problems.
  24. Anyone got pictures of the transit Chicken Coops at Clark in the 64, early 65 time frame? They were in a white finced in compound area.
  25. It was said the VC put a bounty on the Blind Bats when they first started useing the Herk.
