  1. After looking at some orders I was in the 51st oms and in Aug 66 was transfured to the 21st along with about 50 other maint. types. I was on 56-512 and worked for ssgt Leroy Shifflet. I was gone TDY about every chance I got.
  2. Sam, have I seen you mention an SSGT Edgar Evers?? He was in the 35 tcs in Feb 66. He was on a flight crew. I went as CC on a flight that he was on. We went to Danang and Nha Trang. We were at Naha at that time. According to the orders we were gone about 25 days.
  3. They may well have been called Roman Nose. For some reason I am thinking Pope Nose. I was thinking they didn't have the apporiate Radar to fly over the ocean, but when I got to Naha, there was at least one there.
  4. Muff, would that be the Davy Crocket Motel? While I was there a cmsgt went missing and he was found in that motel. Rumer had it he drank himself away. I was there Sept 63 till June 65. Last time I was there was about 89 and all the big hangers had been torn down. Most everything was gone except the 2 brick Barricks and the chow hall between them, and there was a fence around them that looked like a prison. It was a sad site.
  5. I see 3 Pope nose birds. In the Transit area looks like a C-47, and when I was there A T-33 sat close to the tower in the transit area. We had an alert one morning and when all the planes got airborne, We got bags of Oil Dry and spread it every where thare was oil that was under an engine. I was in D section working for Wysocki.

I learned thet 56-468 had a prop reversal problem on landing at ft Campbell Ky. and crashed. I think it was about 1968 or so. I have also heard that 57-468 had the same problem in 1960 and crashed. Odd???

The first plane I was assigned to as a maint. crew member was 56-0468 In Sept. 63 at Sewart.
  9. From the best of my memory (which isn\'t much after 41 years) we used people power. I was only on the\" A\" models and don\'t know about the newer planes.
  10. I was there from June 65 till Nov 66. Us youngens had to be on base at midnight. We had to have a license for a motoecycle on our helmit, and if we got one ticket we lost our license.
  11. I couldn\'t find my picture about 6 months ago. I guess people that have the pictures are sending them in.
  12. I hope this link works. http://www.bmtflightphotos.af.mil/ Someone on TWS forums posted it.
  13. Several of us were on the tow crew on swing shift and got off a little early and 5 of us went to town. We were down in the hotel distrect talking when an MP came around the corner and saw us. We all took off in different directions. One hid under a car, 2 went in a hotel and the momason wouldn\'t let the MP,s go in with their boots on. One went up some outside stairs and was gonna jump but got hung up on something and he was upside down he got cought. I took out running and could see some construction ditches and I knew if I made there I could get away. The MP hollered \"Halt Ot I\'ll Shoot\"! when he chamberer a round in his 45 it sounded like thunder and he almost ran over me I stopped so fast. They took my base pass for 30 days but I was TDY most of that time.
  14. No but I tried a lot of brest in Bangkok.
  15. I didn\'t use the back gate very often. One time I did, There was a Typhon and me and another left base right before condition 1 and went to a hotel. The storm stalled and lasted longer than our money so we got a scosha cab to carry us to the back gate and we climbed the fence and got back to the barricks. The wend was still blowing over 100 mph. When I got back to the barricks everyone thought I had gone with the plane. Young and stupid but full of... well you know! I don\'t remember hearing of the Turkey Farm. Off base there was usually a Ryukin Police with the military police.
  16. Was it Jacks Steak House, or New York Steak house? I remember eating there but not the name. I wish I could remember the names of some of the clubs there but that was long ago and far away. There was a bar across the road and a few doors down from the steakhouse, where one of the girls had the nickname of Gold tooth. She had a friend that was probobly in her 30,s. Both of them were. Does anyone remember them or the bar.
  17. I was in a Barricks that looked almost like that at Naha. 315 oms - 21 TCS. June 65 through Nov 66. That was my home when I got to stay there.

Is that a scrapyard along the top left of the ramp?
  19. I saw the first few Years Of VirtNam on the Nat Geo. channel a few days ago. I thought I made a post about it but can\'t find it anywhere. Now I am just trying to see if this will post.
  20. That looks like a shark eating to me.
  21. It seems to me that the takeoff and landing speeds would have to be increased.
  22. I was working in the nose ww one night on the far side of the runway at Naha, when something cold touched my leg judt below the cuff of my pants leg. I climbed as far up the gear as I could and looked down and a Ryuken Guard had a Doberman, and was busting his but laughing. I guess I was so engrossed in what I was doing I didn\'t hear them sneak up on me.
  23. Looks like a pretty big snake. Had it been me that found it, I would still of been running.
  24. I was in Bangkok at that time working on any C-130 that came through. I don\'t remember hearing anything about it. Over 40 years ago thare is much I don\'t remember. Today I don\'t remember how to spell.

    TDY\'S

I jumped at about every chance I got to fly. I even went on just about any 4 hour local training flight I could get on. Went to Ft. Campbell to let the Paratroopers jump. Went on the touch and goes practice. Loved the Assault T/O,s and landings on the dirt strip near the runway. I didn\'t get flight pay for any of it. When we went to SEA I found out what all that training was for.
