  1. Drinks on me for Casey's birthday tonight at the Bamboo Club!!! If you can't remember where it is, just go to the "Dirty Dozen"---it's on the right hand side of the street!!! Wherever you're at, have a good birthday Casey. Ken
  2. Thomas, Happy 65th!!! You've got me by a few months "old timer" Ken
  3. Alan, From what I can see is that you did a lot to come up with that nice piece of work! How long did that take you to do that?? I really enjoyed looking at a lot of the places that I visited many years ago!!! Ken
  4. While I was stationed at Naha & CCK, That was usually the cure!!! At Cam Rahn Bay, it was always the cure!!! I have no idea if it really was, but somebody always signed it off in the books!!! Then, my bird became O.R. , and I could get some rest!!!! Ken
  5. gizzard, I got two Air Medals for flying 40 Blind Bat missions in 1968. I also got wings but not sure how they were awarded. I was only on a flight crew for 40 missions and then back to the flightline at Naha!! Ken
  6. There goes a part of my life!!! Another Viet Nam veteran bites the dust! Thanks for all of the help, guys. Ken
  7. Dan, All I can say, is good luck with that project! I did something similar to my old home several years ago (not nearly as much though), and I didn't think I would ever see it finished. Now, looking at what you still have ahead of you, I just shudder thinking of the thought of tackling something like what you have ahead!!! My hat's off to you, and all of us on the forum are hoping you will keep us posted with pictures of your progress!! Just a side note, do you have a good place for your gun vault? I hope you have them in a safe place for now!!! Do you need any help storing them? Just trying to be neighborly!! Ken
  8. RavenFE, Thanks for the info on 62-1804! Anybody else know where she is? An earlier post by ?? said 1804 was going to a school squadron--which means what??? According to help from Tiny Clark, it still has some hours left. I hate to see her end up in the bone-yard. I spent many enjoyable hours (some not so enjoyable also) on that airplane!!! In just 15 months, she became part of my life and it seems like yesterday that I was getting ready to go on a CRB input or some other place that I would never have seen if not for her!!! I guess CRS has helped me forget all of the hours it took to keep her flying!!! I couldn't do those hours now!!! Thanks for your help Raven, Ken
  9. bischoffm, I don't want to change the subject, but where do you find out how many hours an acft. has on it??? Thanks, Ken
  10. Bob, 62-1804 was in the 314th TAW all of the time I was on it in 69 and 70. I left CCK in June 70! Probably just a typo??? Ken
  11. Welcome back Dan. You have probably noticed that there have been some changes since you were last here!!! Ken
  12. I can just imagine how much you guys can remember about your old C-130 days. I was only a crew chief on them for 4 years and can still smell the smells, and hear the sounds like I just walked away from the flight line . I'll bet that I can still open the landing gear doors and start the GTC. I'll bet that I could do a decent BPO and Preflight !!! With the checklist of course!!!! Last time I was on one was 1970!! I can't hear worth a damn anymore, but when one flies over (rarely), I run outside and take a look!!! Ken
  13. I guess I can vouch for 62-1804 for 69 and 70. As far as I know, while I was with it, we didn't haul any Agent Orange. But then again, who knows what it carried while on mission "in-country" while I was getting my time off!!! So far, I haven't come down with any symptoms that would reflect on my 33 months over there!! By the way, 1804 was at CCK when I was on it!! Good luck with your claim. Ken
  14. When I was at Naha, I remember some of our planes going to Kadena to sit on the "Hot Pad" whatever that was. I knew it was some kind of alert, but never heard or paid attention to any of the details. My plane never had to go there. There is a story that I remember hearing about an AP guard that walked into a prop while the plane was running. Of course he didn't survive! I think it actually happened, but then again, it might have been another story that got enhanced by an extra beer or two!!!! Ken
  15. If I remember right, we called the Leaflet Mission "Frantic Goat" missions. I assume that was a call sign. I never went on one but knew guys that did, and they described it the same as Sam does. Also, to my knowledge the planes that flew the Frantic Goat missions were just regular 35th A Models rigged up with the oxygen lines for the loadmasters. I was in the 35th from Sept.67 to Mar. 69 and also did a tour as a Blind Bat crew member and to my knowledge no Blind Bat birds were ever used to drop leaflets. Of course, that doesn't mean that it didn't happen, but I never heard of it! I used to have some of the leaflets while over there, but somehow lost them. I do remember what they looked like etc. and would like to see another sometime. Does anybody have any they could post a pic of?? I just had to add my memories of a very interesting subject, Ken
  16. Casey, thanks for re-uniting some of us old farts!!! Ken
  17. I feel that this post won't work, but am giving it a try anyway!! Is the old forum gone??? What can we expect in the future? Help, if feels like I have lost some family members. I am serious, I feel an empty spot not being able to read the Forum everyday!! Casey, if you any of the guys have some answers, please let me know--either here or via e-mail. Ken Carlson [email protected] Never mind, I see you have us back up and running!!! Thanks, Ken
  18. Glad to see that she is still alive!!! What is the school house?? Does she (804) have different markings now? If you could possibly get some pictures of it, I would like to see them! If you need an e-mail address to send them to, let me know! Thanks, Ken PS, Is Bobby Dugger still there? He is a loadmaster.
  19. I see you don't list 62-1804 on the ramp with the Arkansas ANG. What happened to it?? About a year ago Bobby Dugger sent me some very nice pics of it and said it was flying well at the time! I hope it hasn't been sent to the bone-yard. I spent all of my time at CCK on that bird and went almost everywhere it went in 69 and 70. Let me know please, Ken
  20. Bill, I was just re-reading some old posts, and looked at your Picassa pics. It was like a refresher course!! Loved -em! I used to watch the motor cycle races at Naha from my barracks or maybe from the "gun-hill". Also, the Blind Bat survival vest and gear really got my interest! Do you still have any of the items from it? You know, some of the things that accidentally didn't get returned!!! I still have my Pen Gun flare gun, and an old Camillus folding survival knife that was in it! Well, thanks again for the memories, Ken
  21. Were 3 engine take-offs approved at Cam Rahn Bay in 69 or 70? I am almost sure we did that there after the buddy starts and the wind-mill taxiing failed. I remember we were trying to get back to CCK on 1804 after having the #1 starter canned. I do remember trying the windmill starts, which didn't work, and also remember lining up with another C-130 for a buddy start. I don't think that worked either, but after a long 15 or so days at CRB, and very tired as we crew chiefs were, I probably was about half asleep by the time we were air-born! Memory just isn't as good as it used to be, Ken
  22. I guess it's too late for me to offer Dan my help in moving his arsenal!!!! Ken
  23. That's what I have been going to ask about!! Where can I get one? I tried to get one (without stealing one) for 33 months overseas, and never got the job done!! I was thinking about checking the auction sites!! Any ideas??? Ken Just wondering if 62-1804 at The Rock still has them! Those are the ones I want!!!----hint, hint!!!
  24. I'm glad you guys remembered Dang's sandwiches--Her egg-salad sandwiches were the best I have ever eaten--the biggest too!!! I finally quit carrying my P38 due to the holes in my pocket and my leg!! Ken
