  1. I wasn't sure how to respond to this when you first posted. It could've gone either way... That place has a TON of potential. That new roof is a great start. Unfortunately, as you well know it'll cost a TON to fix it up. That should be a very interesting project. I am envious of the smoke house though...
  2. They need to redesignate that program. Harvest Falcon is a latrine kit....
  3. I know there is (or was 7 years ago) a souvineer shop. I think it's on Walker Street, which is off Rt.280 - S. Cobb Drive. I got that from looking at Google. It's bizarre- people navigate by references to the Big Chicken. It's south of the Big Chicken if I remember correctly. BTW- Go to the big chicken, take a right and about a mile down on the left is Williamson Brothers BBQ. Great stop.
  4. I know there's always an opening for maintenance folks in Delaware. http://www.delawarenationalguard.com/join/careers/
  5. The sad thing is nothing is staged. It's all true. If you don't believe me, go to your local Wallyworld and you'll see it for yourself.
  6. That's a very interesting story. Thanks for sharing it. I'm also thankful that as a participant in the current wars I have no story that comes close to it.
  7. I think they switched to microwaves sometime in the early 90's birds. About the time of the H3.
  8. OK, I can forgive a lot of Hollywood sins, but dropping a tank from an exploding Herk and then opening fire on F-18s while in the air from that tank is beyond those limits.
  9. I imagine it'll be cut up at Mazi. Any indications as to what has/will happen with it?
  10. Amazing photos. Thanks for sharing.
  11. Not sure. Some of the guys we got from Willow Grove said it had been there though. Probably 2000-2007 time frame.
  12. From airforce-magazine.com March 17, 2010 More Than Enough C-130s: Mobility Capabilities and Requirements Study 2016, the Pentagon's in-depth look at its transport future needs, shows that the US military currently has more C-130 transports than it requires. The existing inventory stands at 401 tails, a number that exceeds the highest projected demand for 335 of them in the most stressing warfighting scenarios, according to the document's unclassified executive summary. This peak demand would occur during surge airland/airdrop operations, it states. At the same time, MCRS-16 notes that "the C-130 crew force structure cannot sustain steady-state operations in combination with a long-duration irregular warfare campaign," based on current Total Force planning objectives. Many of the C-130s in the Air Force's inventory are old and the service is retiring some of them while upgrading others and bringing on new C-130J airframes. (See Not Enough Tankers above) (For more on MCRS-16, see Overcapacity.) (MCRS 2016 executive summary) We heard this in something like 1992. That's how the H3 production ended and the J-model started.
  13. I think it was the Secretary of the Air Force that made a comment about the C-27J program. He alluded that the 38 or whatever aircraft that were approved were not the last to be purchased. Only the first.
  14. I've got a framed two page layout from Fortune Magazine July, 1955 that's pretty neat.
  15. I'm a minority I know, but the original nose looks better to me. Reminds me of the Short Empire.
  16. I love the quote at the top- "Saving the world isn't for sissies."
  17. Perhaps it's a show about flying DeHavilland Beavers and such in Alaska. If that's the case, the name of Producer Thom Beers (Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, etc.) comes to mind. Perhaps a Discovery Channel program with Mike Rowe narrating. If so, I'm intrigued. Of course, I'd also be intrigued if it was one (or more) of the countless IL-76 crews out there that live on their ride.
  18. You'da thought a ground egress may be a good idea.
  19. Now that's making sense! Thanks guys!
  20. http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2010/03/04/339075/picture-netherlands-gets-first-refurbished-hercules.html I'm a little lost here. To me, this is a T-model. It's got the old wire antenna, APU and Rosemount pitots. If so, why is the Navy getting rid of them?
  21. I'm just curious as to why there are three up-armored Humvees not 50 feet away.
  22. That's the result of using no TOLD data. They rotate at brick last. I've seen IL76 crews do some really, really dumb stuff without incident. It's quite a testimate to how well the airplane is built though.
  23. I pretty much flew the same tails for both Initial/Mission Quals and Instructor school. 7897 (Initial) and 1787 (Instructor) were two that I flew quite frequently. It sucks that they don't tell you this stuff (maybe it's for the best) before you go flying on them.
  24. I read something recently (if I recall correctly) in the Loadmaster newsletter (put out by AMC) that they were pretty happy with the headsets and they were trying to secure funding for them.
