You can tell that it is definitely suppose to be there and from what I\'ve seen in old T1 pictures, there is definitely plates on the Horizontal L/E\'s. This plane just looks to me like it was pieced together with spare parts to get flying again. I\'m curious how it will look after depot with a fresh coat of paint. Polishing a terd comes to mind, lol! Seriously though I think it is kinda cool how this plane has survived after all the modifications and demodifications. DaveB)

  5. Its funny you say that because I was thinking the same thing. This plane did have the Fulton Recovery when it was a HC-130, so it makes me wander if this L/E never was replaced after all these years? I\'ll try to get some pics up tomorrow when I get them from my work email. DaveB)
  6. Got an interesting call the other day from Warner Robins concerning 64-14859. As most of us know this plane started out as a HC-130, then to a EC-130, and now it is a C-130E. The problem that Robins had was that the RH Horizontal Leading Edge had extra exterior plating on the L/E of the structure. I finally got them to send some pics and sure enough this exterior plating runs the full length of the L/E. They said this L/E is from a Talon. They didn\'t specify which MDS. I know it isn\'t from the Talon II, but what about the T1? They were telling me it is a Flare deflector?? I looked in both the 1C-130H-4 and 1C-130(M)H-4 and the part numbers cross reference each other. There are no differences in appearance between the MC-130P, MC-130H, and C-130E leading edges. Does anyone have a theory or know which MDS had these plates? Since it was a HC-130 and EC-130 i figured one of these two probably required these plates? I hope to have some pics up soon so you know what I\'m talking about. Later, DaveB)
  7. I had the luxury of going on this drop with the 7th SOS back in the summer of 2006. That was one of the highlight TDY\'s of my career so far. It was a pretty remarkable feeling sitting in the cargo bay with this big sucker! I have some footage of it leaving the aircraft and that is about it. We had combat camera on board, but this knucklehead decided to follow the pallet all the way to the ground instead of the freaking bomb! When the thing went off he panned the camera to where the explosion was and all you saw was the dust cloud, rookie! Good time though! Laters! DaveB)

  14. They are also modding the MC\'P\'s with dual rails now along with other ADS stuff. We have an aircraft now that is getting fitted at depot, but that doesn\'t mean anything anymore. Spend all the money to TCTO the hell out of them and garbage them the next day. DaveB)

  16. Biddy, I get asked this question all the time in QA. Nathan is right in his post. Everyone sees the quote and reads just \"remove prior to ISO\" and think, wow we don\'t have remove this thing but only once a year?! Like Nathan said you still have to remove these panels on all aircraft unless you have the encapsulated toilet which then you only have to remove it prior to ISO only. I thought about putting in a change for this, but it actually isn\'t that confusing as long as you don\'t let it get to your head thinking you are saving some extra work by not removing these panels. I have had pro supers argue this with me and then I just spell it out to them. Does it really make sense to just remove this panel once a year with the pissers spraying piss all over the belly of your airplane?? Then you have the encapsulated toilet in a sealed system, well suppose to be anyway. They seem to get it for the most part, but you always have the stubborn ones who have never even washed a C-130. Sorry for the book, but this one hits close to home. DaveB)

  19. UPDATE: Last night I took the liberty to try this theory out on the MC-130P. The job guide was \"correct\" for this MDS. When the SPR master switch is moved to drain the OFF LOAD valve doesn\'t open automatically. The valve had to be opened by using the OFF LOAD valve switch. I haven\'t tried it out on the MC-130H as of yet, maybe tonight. One interesting tid bit for the Papa\'s is that they were rescue birds at one time. The ones we have here at the hole were HC-130N\'s at one time. This may have had something to do with the UARRSI at that particular time. Anyway I just wanted to post this and let you know what I\'ve found out so far. DaveB)

  21. All of our HERCS say the same thing as well on the crew door. I think this is a valid question because I would like to know the official answer, if there is one. I chuckle every time I see this sticker. DaveB)
  22. The reason you move the offload valve to open on the shadows and any other UARSSI equipped aircraft is because it is no longer wired into the SPR pump drain switch. They moved this feature to the line drain switch in the flight deck so they can utilize the SPR pump for draining the refueling manifold after inflight refuel. So bascially you just think of it as kind of backwards. After the pump has been running for the 5 minutes of draining, after inflight refuel, then the line drain switch is turned off in the flight deck and then the sump dump switch is opened to remove any leftover fuel after draining, which of course goes overboard. I know this because I asked the same question when I got here at the \"Hole\". I came from slicks w/o UARSSI and I remember when you just had to go to drain with the SPR switch and the offload valve automatically opened. Now I will say this. There is one shadow here w/o UARRSI and the offload valve is still wired into the SPR drain switch. I hope this helps and if I am wrong somewhere I am sure someone will correct me.   23. Two of the biggest bird strikes that stick out in my mind as a crew dawg is: I was stationed at LR in the 53rd when we had one of our tails 62-1810 take a bird in the Co-pilots swing window. The plane called in A-3 and needed an ambulance at the spot. The bird hit the window square and broke the window latch and pin bracket. The co had his hand on the yoke at the time and when the window flung open it pinched his hand to the wheel. Needless to say it broke his hand pretty good (that one had to freaking hurt). Also, I have seen many bird strikes as I have replaced many L/E, Radomes, and windows. The one that sticks out in my mind is the Guard plane that took the Eagle in the fwd kick windows. I mean damn, it looks like someone was butchered in the flight deck. That was my two cents. You all have a good one!! DaveB)
  24. I believe they still had only one pip on the end, just different styles of plunger?? Like you said just need to verify. I thought we would have that OTI laying around in our Archives as well, but we don\'t! I had our TODO email one of her contacts for some help, but we haven\'t heard anything yet. Thanks again! DaveB)
