http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/17390/119236?RS_show_page=0 Sounds to me like some of his Aids made statements that did the boss in -- then again he is the boss and takes responsibility for his subordinates -- allowing the media access like this will continue to have dire consequences -- I wonder what would have happened if the same access was granted to General Eisenhower's staff in WWII during the planning of Operation Overlord?

The 2010 TCTAA convention is set for October 21-24 at the Victorian Hawthorne Suites in Galveston, Texas. This year's convention is in conjunction with the Wings Over Houston air show at Ellington Field on October 23-24. We're also offering a cruise on Carnival out of Galveston on Saturday, October 16 and returning on Thursday, October 21 for those who are interested. (Cruises are a lot of fun! If you've not been on one, you oughta!) Watch the TCTAA web site at www.troopcarrier.org/home.html for details. The TCTAA is a 501C(19) veterans organization and is recognized by the IRS as a wartime veteran's association, meaning that all contributions are fully tax deductible…

We just had our first \"official\" Troop Carrier/Tactical Airlift Association convention in San Antonio, Texas. Our main goal right now is to build the Association. Currently we have 102 dues-paying members and the goal is for each member to recruit at least three new members during the next year. Let me give you all a little bit about who we are. Bob Layman, a retired USAF CMSgt who spent his career mostly in fighter maintenance, gave a Power Point presentation on his time at Tan Son Nhut as a crew chief on T-39s in the SCATBACK courier mission. Toward the end of his presentation he started talking about the mission over An Loc for which C-130 pilot Bill Caldwell and …

This deal on out-of-country veterans proving they actually set foot in South Vietnam in order to qualify for special benefits has gotten out of hand, especially since the VA started tightening it's belt. I am personally fortunate in that I reenelisted at Cam Ranh Bay and it's on my DD 214. I was also credited with a Vietnam tour because of my combined days in-country from TDY from Pope and later from Naha and Clark. This is NOT something I requested, and it went on my records before I got out. But there are a lot of guys out there who have no way of proving they were in South Vietnam to qualifiy for benefits - and not all of them were in C-130s or in the Air Force. There …

Hi to all, New guy here. I was in VXE-6 '74-'77. As an AE-3, I was a helo guy but always loved the Herc's too. Fun to see the Hercs come overhead around our home now while they practice. I can see the skis on them from here. They shoot approaches into Binghamton, NY. I have pretty much stayed with helos over the years and at 53 just recently got my Comm/Instrument Rotorcraft ratings. More fun.... the possibility of going back to the Ice once more. I also am A&P and thought to broaden my experience and so am looking into Herc maint. I found BaseOps.com. What a great bunch of info. Fun reading. A name popped into my head - Commander Desko. He was there a coupl…

The WWCT Reunion is scheduled for 21-23 May 2010. Proceeds and donations to support the Combat Talon Memorial Fund. As a Tri-Chair of the Reunion with George Ferkes (7ACS) and Lee Hess (Stray Goose) I am trying to pin down a list of those former CT crewmembers who flew with the 8th SOS only. Most CT people flew in multiple units. Please help me in this endeavour and disseminate this e-mail to all on your mailing list who could assist. Thanks in advance. Regards, Bob Brenci [email protected]

I've been doing a lot of work on the Troop Carrier/Tactical Airlift Assoc. web site at www.troopcarrier.org. One thing I'm trying to do is to put every possible link related to the mission on the Links page - www.troopcarrier.org/links.html. All of the newletters but Volume III are also on the site on the newsletters page - www.troopcarrier.org/newsletters.html. We're looking for more members! The TCTAA is the only officially recognized fraternal organization dedicated to the troop carrier/tac airlift mission. If you're not a member, please join. We're all getting old and when we're all gone no one is going to know there ever was a troop carrier/tactical airlift missi…

Thanks Sam as didn\'t see this posted figured you hadn\'t gotten to it yet. They started a site, www.LetsSayThanks.com where you can pick out a Thank You card and Xerox will print it and sent to a soldier who is currently serving overseas, absolutely FREE. You can\'t pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the Armed Services. Please send cards to our troops serving to keep us free. No restriction on how often you do this. Pass it along to your friends. Take care.
