  1. What about the former B-52 pilots that did not like flying from short strips?
  2. We, 772nd TCS, left Langley starting in early November 1965, some for Clark and some for Mactan via Clark. We became TAS sometime around the spring or summer of 1966.
  3. We were broke down in Athens and waiting on the flightline for transportation. We had a crew case that was hot so the FE and I got a fire extingusher from under the wing and cooled the case. Next thing here comes the flightline ramp truck heading our way. We dumped the expended fire extinguisher in the big ditch behind the aircraft and put the cold beer in the 130. Then we looked innocent when asked why no fire extinguisher under the wing.
  4. Thanks for getting the site back up I missed it.
  5. I kept getting a forbidden on the computer when I tried to get on this site the past several days. Anybody know why?
  6. I seem to remember that putting a band aid over the light worked
  7. Great report. Left leaning politicians cut off the funding to RVN after we withdrew. They also let the draft dogers back in from Canada and gave away Okinawa and the Panama Canal.
  8. Here is some info on the C-133A/B. Except for transporting missles this aircraft's normal crew was only one loadmaster, missles took two. There were no computers for the loadmaster. All CG computations were long math by station not compartment to determine percent of mac. The loadmaster had a bed downstairs to sleep on. http://www.militaryheritage.org/C-133.html
  9. Here is some info on coronary artery desease aka in VA terms as Ichemic Heart Desease. http://vets.yuku.com/search/text/?q=coronary+artery+desease&submit.x=68&submit.y=12
  10. Just another 74 year "old fart" :-)
  11. Isn't there a Marine reserve C-130 outfit at NAS Jax?
  12. Anybody remember a rose that started with a J at Tachi? :-)
  13. Sometime in 66 our crew was sent to Loc Ninh to transport the army. When we got there my A/C was put in charge of the airlift operation. We flew about 2 missions to An Khe and then sat on the ground to coordinate the loading of the C-130's B's & E's. I believe the army general's name was Rosenberg (?) who was commander of the operation. As it was late in the day the rear guard started coming out of the bush. There were 150 troops and they were told to bring all of their equipment and get on our B model. Any one not able to get on the plane would be left there for the night, no choppers were available. I put them on the flight deck, on the upper cargo door and jammed them into the cargo compartment. I climbed into the left paratroop door and closed it. We started engines and went to An Khe. After that when Rosenberg needed a ride on a C-130 he requested our crew if we were in country.
  14. Is Airbus trying to sell the A400M to USAF? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13883409
  15. Here is an excellent site that will give you good info about VA compensation and its internal procedures. Including agent orange information. http://vets.yuku.com/
  16. Here is a web site that I came across recently. I learned quite a bit. http://vets.yuku.com/
  17. Never carried a milk stool on the aircraft. Either air freight or the army had something or we just plopped it on the ground. Where do they put it when doing an air drop with two platforms?
  18. If I remember correctly our crew based at Mactan was listed as "Short Stop Qualified". We went into places other crews were not allowed to land. It seems like the 463rd had to have a certain amount of these crews in-country at all times. Of course things change over the years.
  19. Thanks for the replies. I was able to use performance reports, picture of me from an AF newspaper showing me at TSN, and some other AF documents. 60% and still going for more tests.
  20. I was a loadmaster in the 772nd and need someone willing to provide information they know I was in RVN tdy. This is for an agent orange claim. My records only show combat hours, days tdy to SEA and combat sorties. James Heckler
  21. Support Gunner 75% Special Ops 69% Combat Infantry/Armor 63% Artillery/Aircraft 56% Officer 50% Engineer 50% Medic 38% Civilian 0%
  22. In 65-66 at Mactan all flight crewmembers were issued 38 revolvers with 6" barrels and ,I think, 50 rounds. We drew the weapons before leaving Mactan and turned them in when back from RVN. We bought holsters in TSN. I had a shoulder holster while the rest of the crew had western style gun belts. I got the shoulder holster because a gun belt would hang up on things like vehicles when chaining them. We also "found" 2 M-16's which we kept at TSN in a connex container when we were not flying.
  23. We had several "B"s that had it for testing purposes. When you were done loading the freight crew always came and stood around the area and watched. This threw everything off. We still used to use a slip-stick for the form "F".
  24. We landed at Pleiku very late on New Years Eve 65. Had 5 pallets of WP on board so they put us on the taxiway out near the runway to wait for a fork lift. Soon trip flares started going off and we could see figures running around. The front end got 1&2 started and we started to taxi. # 3 came on line as we took the runway and #4 was online before we broke ground and went back to TSN. Found out the perimiter security got chewed out for celebrating New Years.
  25. There was a 29th crew in 66 that had an "F Troop" flag they displayed when on the ground. At that time the 29ths reputation was not that great.
