A little birdie whispered in my ear and hinted that there may be consideration in the works to extend the MC-130E service life to 2020 (plus). Any comments? John

We were sitting around telling sea storys about who flew what and when and the C-130 designations came up (Bs, Es, Hs, H(H)s, & Vs). We had 4 HC-130H(H)s out in Sacramento (McClellan AFB) in the 80s, 1454(4265), 1453(4260), 1452(4255) and 1451 which was a \"loaner\" from the AF after we lost the 1600 on Attu, AK. We couldn\'t remember what the extra (H) stood for in the designation. The planes all had the fulton nose and were plumbed for internal tanks and had the overhead rail system in them. Any help out there? Senior Sends

Hello---new to forum, nice site. I am going to model a C-130 and need info. It is one my brother maintained when he was stationed at Forbes AFB back around 1970-1975. He is no longer around so I have no info on the type. I think they were E\'s? but not sure. He went in after ROTC from college---when he graduated from UMASS in 70 he was called up and sent to Chanute for training then stationed at Forbes, was let out early when Viet Nam ended around 74 or 75? All I remember was he had a model, think it was Italeri 1/72 painted in SEA cammo, he displayed it on his stereo system next with a \"Remove Before Flight\" flag on his stereo.Any info would be appreciated---Thanks---Jo…

I'm finishing up a white jet tour and I've been assigned to the MC-130J. As Air Force standard goes, I don't know a damn thing about the future plans of this airplane and I can't find any information anywhere. What's worse is that I'm pretty sure "they" aren't sure about the training flow. I was expecting to attend a shortened version of J model training and then start a mission oriented training on the MC-130J. But, it looks like they've set me up to attend the entire J model course to include the airdrop and airland portions. It makes no sense to me and makes me wonder if they are making us go through the entire training because they aren't sure what else to do with us …

I have a question and a discrepancy... it is dealing with engines and electrics. MC-130(M)H Trying to determine if this is a discrepancy or normal ops. During an engine run the throttles were pulled back kind of fast (from 1077) cnd if throttles are at 1010. This intermittently causes the gen out lights (1, 2, and 4) to come on. It never happens to #3 gen, and rarely happens (to 1, 2 or 4) w/ temp datum in null or locked. It is almost w/o fail to see it illuminate 1, 2, and 4 w/ td in auto. Other possible discrepancies (when pulling throttles back) include VDT's flickering, and f/d and c/c thunderstorm lights dimming and brightening. Is there T.O. info for pulli…

I was working on updates to the inventory last night and cme up with a question. Does anyone know the whereabouts of 63-7784? It was struck from the USAF Inventory at Little Rock in Oct 2009. Is it still at the Rock? A trainer maybe? Thanks Bob BTW did anyone notice that the first of the 74 H models to become a ground trainer is at Sheppard.74-1676. Those 74's weren't born yet when I got off AD.

Hey all! I spotted these two PR C-130's departing NAS Fort Worth today...old birds...I have read that PR is getting rid of the E's. Were these headed to AMARC? or just normal movements? I've never seen PR birds here before. Thanks, Zane 64-0515 64-0544

You all remember the story of how, with the help from a buddy on this forum, I located and subsequently visited my old aircraft 877 down in Peoria IL. I took a ton of pictures of the activities on the flight line that evening, and I was just now going through them again and I think that this one is my favorite. I'm sure that all you crew chiefs out there (past and present) know of the bond between the "chief" and his bird. I love this image. How many times, I wonder, did I stand at the nose of 877 waiting for the bus to bring out the flight crew? The flight line is quiet, we stand there with our thoughts, hand on "our plane", almost a carress. tinwhistle (Chris)

A little backstory first. I am a single 19 year old loadmaster currently assigned to C-130J's out of Ramstein, Germany. I will be heading there in a month or so once I finish up training. The problem is I just got offered to fly on the MC-130J.. Out of Cannon AFB, New Mexico. Being on the MC-130 has always been my dream but it's just hard to give up Germany for NM. I need input from both the C and MC guys. And advice would be much appreciated! I'm really torn on this one. Thank you!

Hi all, Been a while since I last posted on here but can anyone confirm if WC-130H 65-0984 is with the KY ANG please? Have seen a report of it flying with the 165th in December of 2012 but I can't find any images of it wearing KY ANG markings. In fact I can't find any images of 65-0984 after 2011! Thanks, Koen

Back in August 2003, I attended a reunion of the 374th TAW in St.Louis, and sitting right next to the fence next to the highway at the airport was the fuselage of an F-4.Does anybody that lives in St.Louie know about that? Just curious,as the F-4 was my first love as a kid growing up next to MacDill AFB here in Tampa.

Special Operations Command plans to convert eight existing C-130 variants into multi-role gunships to support the wars in Iraq in Afghanistan. As part of the fiscal 2010 budget, the Defense Department has set aside $31.6 million to begin equipping eight MC-130Ws with limited gunship capability, according to budget documents. The additional firepower will buttress the two dozen aging AC-130H/U Spectre and Spooky gunships, Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz and Air Force Secretary Michael Donley told members of Congress during a May hearing. The AC-130s are in high demand in Iraq and Afghanistan for night-time flyovers. According to the Defense Department’s special…

I don't ever forward e-mails or post political messages but this is real and affects alot of us here on the board. I'm sorry the post is sort of long but in a nutshell our new President and his Congress want to raise the cost of Tricare for retirees. It seems there is a movement on from the new administration to screw some of us for serving our country. How quickly they forget that many of us when we joined the military were promised free medical care for us and our dependants for the rest of our life. Even Tricare is a breach of that promise, but now they want to mess with Tricare and Tricare for life, the military supplement to Medicare. Pass this to all retirees.…

When I was at clark They started building a new Gate. From where we stayed in the Trasit Chicken Coops, I remember haveing to ride to the main gate. On the way we passed the construction of another gate. I heard later the Philipones had built the gate and stole a Fire Truck and drove it out that gate.
