A few updates 74-2072 is at Robins, supposed to be for the Afghans. CT now has at least 2 H's 74-1667 and 74-2134. MT has 1 H 74-1671 OH now has 4 H's; 2 from AK 82-0054 and 0056, one from NY 83-0488, and one from Dobbins 81-0629. Sheppard now has 4 H model trainers 74-1673, 1676, 1684, 2130. This is a strange one; Dobbins is giving up its 81 H models, well maintained with only about 11000 hours on them. So far 81-0628 is at LRF ANG, 81-0629 is at Mansfield, 81-0631 is at LRF ANG and they are getting 50th AS rejects, so far 92-0552 and 93-1039. The 50th H's have around 13000 hours on them and obviously not as well maintained as the older 81 models. The troops in Ma…

I'm looking for pictures of this install on 66-0217. It was on the aircraft in the late 80's. It consisted of a large block of flat formation lights on the aft fuselage in the form of a square with a "dash" in it...aft of the paratroop doors and I think there were some mounted on the IFR pylons. I found one distance picture on the internet, but nothing up-close. I've looked in the gallery and the only picture is from the wrong angle and the lights are 90% blocked in the view. Thanks.

This will be the 4th reunion we had and the first three were great. Hope everyone can make it. Bob GREETINGS TRASH HAULERS!!! Our reunion this year will be October 1-5, 2014 (that's Wed-Sun) in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. It will be a joint reunion with the 463 TCW(CCK). Pigeon Forge is a major tourist destination with much to see, do and eat. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is next door (over 10 million visitors per year, the most of any National Park). The fall colors should be beginning to show for us. Plan to take the hotel up on their generous offer of extending our rates for up to a week on either side of the reunion dates …

I just found out that one of our Form F instructors, at Sheppard AFB, has had a stroke. He was at Sheppard in the early '70's. When John left Sheppard, he transferred the the 37 TAS. He, also, did all his Form F's by hand, never using a slip stick! Please keep him in his prayers. Pat Wylie

John Harris lost his battle with cancer last night. John was my Form F instructor at Sheppard, in 1970. He shipped out to SEA, and then to Langley. He always filled out the form by hand. No calculator or slip stick. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Pat Wylie

Fire Fight The row of burning houses looked like a war zone, Lt. Col. Luke Thompson thought as he flew his C-130 low over the Possum Kingdom blaze and dropped thousands of gallons of retardant in the path of the flames. He’d never seen anything like it in 15 years of fighting wildfires. “We were all stunned from seeing the devastation,†says Thompson, chief of aerial firefighting for the 302nd Airlift Wing and a veteran of five deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. But that 2011 Texas blaze was merely a taste of fires to come. The next two summers, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve C-130 tankers battled to save homes near Colorado Springs from equally destr…

Just got a report from Andy Marden on the Ecuadorean AF Ecuador got 4 ex USAF B models. None of them are flying. Three were left behind at the old Quito airport. One went to the new airport and is parked looking derelict. FAE 894 ex USAF 57-0525 Lock 3501 moved to the new airport. FAE 897 ex USAF 61-2645 Lock 3683 is in the AF Museum at the old Quito airport. Andy found that at least most of us had misidentified 895 and 896. They are both on the ramp at old Quito. One clearly identified as 895 was unable to be identified. All along we thought it was ex USAF 57-0529 Lock 3505. But 895 was sitting next to 57-0529, still identifiable from its old USAF paint scheme.…

There was a video that I came across on youtube a few years back that had three airplanes competing for the contract that the C-130 ended up getting. I can't seem to find it anywhere. It had stuff about three different planes. Any help finding it or links to it would be much appreciated It was like this short video but more in depth

The Lingering Story of Agent Orange January 2015 By John T. Correll AF Magazine The assumption in the 1960s was that the use of herbicides in Vietnam did not pose a significant danger. The UC-123K tactical transport known as “Patches†got its name the hard way. The aircraft was held together nose to tail with repairs to the battle damage inflicted by almost 600 hits from enemy ground gunners in Vietnam... See link for the rest of the story...rather lengthy. http://www.airforcemag.com/MagazineArchive/Pages/2015/January%202015/The-Lingering-Story-of-Agent-Orange.aspx Free Itunes download of the book "USAF C-123 Veterans: VA Illegally Denies Agent Ora…

From AF Magazine C-130Es Eyed for Bangladesh: The Pentagon notified Congress of a possible $180 million foreign military sale of four regenerated C-130E transports and associated parts, equipment, and training to Bangladesh. The Bangladesh government has requested the sale of the four US Air Force baseline C-130Es, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency's May 22 release. The United States would provide 20 Rolls-Royce T56AA engines for the aircraft as excess defense articles, states the release. The proposed sale would help the Bangladesh air force to modernize its aging transport fleet, it states. The BAF would use the C-130Es "to respond more capably to hu…
