I was browsing around for C-130 pics and ran across the following site and thread: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/dave-winfields-projects/10232-c-130-ac-130-hercules-redraw-redesign-airdave-17.html Note our conversation regarding 53-3129 and the name "The Arbitrator." It appears that Lars' book and our image gallery require corrections? What say you? Casey

I've been in contact with the Air Force Historical Records section at Maxwell regarding some articles I've been working on and while I was at it I asked them about the loss of a C-130A from Naha on a leaflet mission to North Korean fighters in August 1963. While they have been unable to find anything in the records, they have advised me that 56-0474, which is shown on Lars Olausson's list as being involved in a defueling fire on August 27. 1963 is shown as having been repaird and reclaimed. Considering that Lars has no information after that fire on that airplane, this is another C-130 mystery. Of course, it's not really a mystery. Obviously they slapped the tail number o…

In researching the C-130 'A' Models once assigned to the 118th/105th TAW, I can find VERY LITTLE information on 56-0485. The only information I have been able to find thus far is as follows: This aircraft entered AMARC on 17 October 2002 and was assigned AMARC # CF090 and was last reported on AMARC’s records on 19 July 2002. According to records, the aircraft was subsequently transferred to Dross Metals (DMI) also known as Aircraft Restoration and Marketing (ARM). This aircraft also appears on the DMI scrapyard inventory list in the AMARC database. J. Baugher’s accounting of 56-0485 is as follows: 485 (c/n 182-3093) to AMARC as CF0090 Jul 6, 1990. …

I ran across the post below on AMARG's Facebook page. Anyone know which aircraft they a getting? The Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force departed AMARG today after finishing five months of flight training to familiarize themselves on former U.S. Marine KC-130Rs. The Navy is transferring six of their stored aircraft to Japan to assist in modernizing their current fleet of aircraft. “Thank you for helping us accomplish our mission,†LCDR R. Anraku said as he presented his squadron plaque to Col Romero, the AMARG Commander. “We deeply appreciate the U.S. Air Force for allowing us to train here, it was a very exciting experience.†A P-3 pilot before transitio…

Hi I got a request for info on an accident in SEA. Son of a casualty. 61-2649 took off from Hue Phu Bai going to Danang. It crashed 15 miles East South East of Hue. I ran a line on a google earth map and it showed a hill in that area right on the coast but the top of it was only 1500 feet. Lars said it hit a hill. 1500 feet 15 miles from the airport? in daylight!! trying to stay under the clouds?? I\'ve seen things done like that but??? AF says it was an accident and not combat related, but not much more. Anyone remember it? What happened? Crew was Maj Anderson, LC Braybrooke, Capt Burkett, A1c Rehm and A2C Ruyff. Aircraft belonged to 773 TAS Mactan Thanks Bob

I was looking up some stuff for Hush on his Berlin for Lunch Bunch and then talking with Tiny Clark about the 62 models and came up with a question. Back in the early 70\'s the USAF started dumping its most beat up E\'s on the Guard and Reserve. The 62\'s and any real doggy 63\'s and 64\'s they had. The Guard and the Reserve fixed them up and now the USAF is getting them all back. The only Guard units with E\'s are the PRANG and LRF and the Reserve has none. Anyhow my question is, there were 6 62 models not counting ABCCC that did not go to the ARF. Three were former MEAFSA later Jackpot later Berlin E\'s later Pacer Coin 62-1819,1822,1828. Two were MEAFSA, Jackpot E\'s…

62-1787 c/n 3732 Paint?
by Guest- 1 reply

All, I need some help with a print. Does anyone know what markings 62-1787 c/n [cn]3732[/cn] had on it SEA paint scheme in the mid early to mid 70s? Did it have the TAC patch on the Tail? Did it have a stripe at the top of the Tail? If so, what color? Did it have a 374th TAW patch aft of the crew door? What tail code did it carry? The aircraft was assigned to the 21st TAS which I believed carried the DY tail code from 71 through at least 73. Can anyone confirm this? Anyone have pictures? Thanks! Casey

http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123268312 I have to say that I am very proud to have flown on this aircraft over the years. I have a ton of good memories of this aircraft at home station and on the road. She is going to her well deserved final resting place at the museum. We found out about the aircraft's history about 3 years ago. After a few months of work and research, we were able to convice the leadership here that the aircraft was deserving of some nose art. We were able to design and apply that nose art before we gave the airplane to the active duty as we converted to the H model. As of today, the airplane still has the nose art on i…

Our Ops Group Commader is requesting information on one of our old airplanes, 62-1788. I was hoping some of you may be able to help out. The active duty here at LR is taking the airplane to the boneyard next week. Apparently they have a reporter who will be flying with the crew to Davis Monthan to witness the airplane be delivered to the boneyard. This reporter is looking for historical info on the airplane for the article. Since we had the airplane for over 20 years, the active duty has referred this reporter to us for the information. We do not have any historical info on this tail so I am appealing to you all for help.

I copied this off the Air Force Magazine today Muff Thursday December 09, 2010 Little Rock's C-130E Ops Winding Down: The 314th Airlift Wing at Little Rock AFB, Ark., has only 15 C-130E transports remaining after retiring tail number 62-1788 to the boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz. This airframe, built in 1962, participated in the Tet Offensive and other major operations from 1967 to 1973 during the Vietnam War. Overall, the airlift workhorse flew 31,565.5 hours in its nearly 50-year career. Arriving at Davis-Monthan on Nov. 29, airmen will now use it for spare parts. Little Rock's remaining C-130Es are scheduled for phaseout by September 2011, as the Air For…

Hello all, been a while since I was on. But I was looking at an issue of Airforces Monthly magazine from I think june / july 2010 issue, and there was an article about Boeing receiving a contract to bring the F-16's out of storage and convert them to target drones. Anywho, there was a pic of two 16's sitting there in the boneyard, with a 130 in the background with tailcode, YJ, and it looked like it was 7803. Now I thought the acft was sold to Tunisia. Anyone have any info?

Hello Folks, The C-130 Production List show 63-7872 as being broken up at Eglin, but I drive past it every day on my way to work and it sure looks intact to me. As a matter of fact, one day I went by and the ramp was open and folks were milling around, doing what I don't know, but milling around the airplane nonetheless. Any ideas on what the real story is on this airplane? Arf, Dinah
