According to Lars' book, the FY 1973 production line consisted of the 73-1580 thru 73-1599 "Super E's", 6 USN LC-130R's, 1 H-model for Turkey, 2 for Israel, & 3 for Denmark. The entire 1973 production line, including the USN & foreign sales, all were basically "Super E's" with a GTC & the smaller AC packs. Don R.

Dan, When did the USAF do away with the engine run-up as part of the before takeoff checks? Back when I was in stan/eval, I actively campaigned to get rid of it for a number of reasons. As a commercial FE, it was never a requirement. Of course, the company or the customer was paying for the gas then -- not the tax payer. Don R.

The DHC-8 is a de Havilland Canada regional airliner. The USAF has 2 based at Tyndall AFB with the military designation of E-9A. They are 100 series airplanes with side looking radar. I don't know what the military designation of the Q200 is, although I would imagine it's a 200 series -8. Don R.

Here are 3 of my money pits. A 55 2-door coupe with a 327 engine, 350 Turbo transmission & a Ford 9" rear end. An 85 Monte Carlo SS with a 350/350. An 83 Silverado with a 350/350. I bought it new in 1983 in Moran, Texas. As of yesterday, it had 254,394.6 miles on it. It's on its 2nd engine & 3rd transmission. Don R.

ech2323, It was actually the fall of 1977 -- I was the 5th FE to get to the 37th on 11/77 & we flew with some of the Pope crews still on rote. For quite a few months after that, even though we all used the same checklist, there were still comments in the cockpit like "that's not how we did it at Pope, Dyess, McChord, etc." Don R.

To add to Tiny's list, here's a "Top 10 List" for gear heads. I think a lot of us can identify with all of them. Don R. TOP 10 LIST 1. The greater the distance back to the parts store, the greater chance you got the wrong part. 2. If there are two or more versions of the part, you got the wrong one. 3. Anything you need today won’t be available until next week. 4. Any used wheels you buy for your car will have 1-inch less backspacing than you need. 5. Any repair job will take three times as long and cost twice as much as planned. 6. That sharp crack you heard tightening down the carburetor was not you knuckles. 7. That flaring job you did on that brake line would’ve been perfect if you had remembered to put the flare nut on the line first. 8. No matter what you paid, some guy knows where you could have gotten it a lot cheaper. 9. Any time you guess about the length of the hose, it’ll be too short. 10. The older you get, the faster your car used to be.

I had forgotten about the Fords in Saudi. As for Coca Cola, it was banned, I beleive, because Coke was also bottled in Israel; as were the Fords produced there. The Saudis had their own version of Coca Cola, called Khaki Kola. It even came in the same unique shaped bottle. Don R.

Dan, did you ever do any of the Bat 60 TDY's to Dhahran? That was probably the most asked for trip when I was at Rhein Main. Big per diem & great flying! I also remember buying those bootlegged tapes downtown. One time, one of our young SSgt FE's had serious money problems so he decided to take a duffel bag full of booze into Saudi Arabia. When the Paki's unloaded the baggage, the duffel bag came off, too. Of course, he was caught & the rest of the 2 crews had to pool all their money to get him out of jail. The wing commander took 2 stripes -- just enough so that he couldn't reenlist. You could get big bucks for a bottle of booze in Saudi, but I never thought it was worth it. Don R. The last time this video was posted here (quite a few years ago), a comment was made about who didn't get the battery switch. Everybody's gone & the lights are still on. Maybe the FE is still in there making a write-up about the gear? Don R.
