  1. Sounds like the old throttle/condition lever cable failure deal. The tension regulator could take the linkage to reverse, or look for a broken pully that would allow the tensioner to do the same thing. RZ Hill
  2. The lack of paint dates the picture to before 66 RZ Hill
  3. I also was scheduled to go to hyd school. somehow I was assigned to the 43 career field. Spent about 8 months there including one Kid. That was a cold place in the winter. RZ
  4. I also trained on this acft in Late 58. #2 engine was the only one operational during my training. What an experience going straight to B-47's at Lake Charles La. RZHill
  5. Which "Baby Jane" Grandma, Mom or Grandaughter? RZ Hill
  6. Heard from a good source today that it might be 48 weeks before all defective nuts are replaced. Lockgreed ought to do this for free on the "j" acft as they were equiped "from the factory" with these defective nuts. RZ Hill
  7. just where is 'the external control panel ' for the ramp and door ?

I remember 56-489 well, crewed her in 65 when she came up to lockborne from Sewart. Planned to take her to Everux but she developed a leading edge fuel leak in #2 tank. Took 56-513 and stayd with her untill I went to FM school in late 65. RZ HIll
  10. That's the only thing this report does is CYA RZ HIll
  11. Yeh Chic Anderson, got him one ORI , was scheduled for a check ride with him o dark thirty, I got to the base early, Chic wasn\'t there yet, just did my thing, went out preflighted the airplane, finished up , walked in and low and behold Chick walked in, Only 45 min late. He had to give me that one but the flying part was a killer. Now I don\'t sign off on the bull crap of the ex Pittsburg acft being a 4 engine roll back. Be willing to bet the acft was on crossfeed and when the a/c made his evasion turn the centrifical force cavitated the pumps, note one engine was still running, I just cannot believe that the three other fuel controls were screwed up. Pope hadn\'t had this acft long enough to degrade it to that point. Pittsburg has always had superior maint and they wouldn\'t let the acft get that way. Another thing since the before takeoff checklist was not completed the apu door was open, wouldn\'t have taken 15 seconds to get that generator on line, he would have had all he needed to restart one or more engines. Sad that the quality of some engineers is so poor. RZ HIll
  12. US Herk wrote: The Charleston unit takes the Little Rock Grads, and then evaluates them, actually retraining them at the unit. When the Unit changed from 119\'s to Emodels in 75 we were given a two week fam course, a week in the \"B\" simulator at Charlotte and flew with an instructor until he felt we were ready for a check ride. Didn\'t take long, about a week, I had 14 hours in the E when I was let out on my own. Yes I had previous 130 time in the AD in A Models. But that was in the mid sixties, I was out for a few years. At That time you spent a lot of time in the books as you didn\'t know when ole Chic would drop in and give you a check ride. It\'s a lot different in a Guard unit, our section was always tight and helped each other to learn the systems. Guess it\'s going back to the old deal in the ad when \"in the green\" was good enough. 14. What a crock of \"public Affairs\" generated BULL CRAP. Don\'t know about otheres but 4 engine rollback was always covered at Simiflite. Got a couple of thousand hours in 62-1788 , great flying plane. RZ Hill
  15. Hmmmm 57 seconds, plenty of time to at least try to start a couple of engines. What was the crew level of experience? RZ Hill
  16. It\'s going from 28 Chief\'s Guard wide to 7. Not much incentive for young kids coming up. They haven\'t cut the Officers, kinda funny when a Nav section of 16 has 9 Lc\'s. Now that\'s where the money is. When are the bead counters gonna realize that experience is in the guard and reserve and you cannot legislate this. RZ Hill
  17. They are trying to cut the numbers of higher ranking enlisted, basicly wanting to have the highest grade as an E5. What a Joke. :woohoo: RZ Hill
  18. Has anybody seen the preposed new Enlisted rank structure for the fliers? Looks like the enlisted force is getting to pay for a C-17 , or two. RZ Hill
  19. Four Pitot tubes, different minimum control speeds. RZ
  20. Tom , when are you going to do another book, your description of events and inter colation with the members of this great unit made for an outstanding piece of work. I just wish there were more of it. Maybe you could do a book on your C-5 conversion. That would be exciting to all of us. Thanks for \"The Speed of Heat \" RZ HIll
  21. Good Video, but 40 tons of cargo? not RZ Hill
