  1. I think the "E" models are unaffected by the structural issues highlighted by the St. Louis loss. They're a bit more beefey.
  2. You wouldn't happen to have a photo of that painted Weasel would you?
  3. Aviation-safety.net is a good site. However, I've found a large amount of military stuff is either hard to find or was never posted.
  4. I'm not 100%, but I think the current rules state that it can't be gender specific, clean language and it has to be approved. I'm not sure who the approving agency is. That being said, our guys were told a few years back that it's totally 100%, NOT ALLOWED. I'm not sure if that's a local rule or from a command.
  5. Bring back Delta Squadron. My beer low light has been on so long it's burnt out.
  6. There security considerations as well. Not to mention a bulkiness issue. I'm still waiting on a decent noise cancelling headset for us in the back. We got a bunch of Dave Clarks and Flightcoms. I wasn't happy with them at all. They don't do the job and have bulky battery packs. I tried a Bose headset that another unit and it seemed better, although I didn't get a good chance to really test it out. I thought I read in one of the AMC C-130 Loadmaster Newsletters that they are working on cordless headsets, but that's all it really said.
  7. There used to be plans for the wooden alternate ramp support in the TO-C-130A-9. I think they're still there. I read something not long ago that the USAF is looking into a kevlar milk stool. I'd be interested in what that looks like and if it's any lighter than the wooden ones.
  8. What's the latest on the AMP program? I thought I heard that it was stalled. I know the original test airplanes were sent to PDM to be upgraded to a standard and returned to the Air Force.
  9. Does anyone have an update on how the NP2000 project is going?
  10. I thought the Pakistani F-16As were turned over to the Navy as aggressors. They eventually were allowed to purchase C-models as I recall.
  11. You'd think that with the shortage of available non-J model C-130s for export, the State Department would release those for foreign use.
  12. Nice. I bet he was close enough that you could hear his engines over the Herk.
  13. On our H2s, the button is below and to the left of the Warning sticker that is visible at the top center. FYI- It took be darned near forever, but I got permission to clip/hang/velcro a hand sanitizer dispenser on the right. There is also one near the urinals at 245 on the right side..
  14. While I'm not in that community, it seems to me that the ACs get the snot beat out of them. Between the stresses of max weight takeoffs and the weapons firing, I could see them not necessarily timing out early, but developing cracks and such at an earlier age. To me, the J-model platform would seem a good step up with the higher performance engines and the composite, higher altitude prop.
  15. That's the kind of stupid crap this world is coming to. It needs to stop. People need to be big boys and girls, accept personal responsibility for their actions and stop the endless, useless, pointless, lawsuits.
  16. Thanks. Sorry about that. I either didn't see or didn't remember the response.
  17. Is there any significance to the 62 in the tail numbers? It seems Herks have been getting unit numbers in the tail numbers since 85, when Texas got the 1360 series. If I had to guess, I'd speculate that the 62nd would convert to a SOS and get these airplanes. Is this the case?
  18. Cool. We've found family members using Facebook. Some weren't aware that there were other relatives out there.
  19. I thought 1788 was supposed to go to the Air Force Museum. ?
  20. While it's depressing, I would like to see them.
  21. I was under the impression that Kulis was being turned over to the PANC airport and everybody was going to the Dorf.
  22. Sucks. I figured that jump jets would be the future. The Brits really learned alot from the Falklands War and had plans for some fairly inexpensive alternatives to aircraft carriers. Employment options were totally unlimited. That whole cancellation was a huge blow to the F-35B, which, in my opinion is the best variant. The lift fan is simple and very ingenious. If I were King for a day (and funding wasn't an issue), I'd cancel the other versions and go with it.
  23. If you're doing JPADS, or other high altitude airdrop, they do occasionally have a tendancy to "hover" slightly open at altitude when the engineer attempts to close the ramp and door from up front. As a Loadmaster, we may have to go up and stomp on one side or the other to get it to lock closed. It is required in the -1 to have a closed ramp and door in order to pressurize the airplane. Not having the ramp and door locked also limits our airspeed as well.
  24. Don't get discouraged. That place will be really sweet when you're done referbishing it.
  25. I crewed 1787 at Little Rock ANG going through LM Instructor School three years ago. It ran like a champ- quite a testimate to the ANG CCs and the airplane itself.
