  1. Giz, I can't remember a LM briefing I heard like - sit down, shut up, keep your feet of the seats, etc.
  2. Thanks guys but i'm trying to go "cheap". Don't remember where I got the B -1 from. It was just a download from some where. Loadsmith's site had a good listing but like I said I want to stay "cheap." If I could get my hands on a copy I'd be happy to scan it in for future use. Same for the JC-130B/JHC-130H addendum.
  3. I've been looking for a HC-130H-1 just for my interest. I have a B-1, 1-1, and -1 CL pdf, but would like to find an HC/H -1. Did some searching but can't seem to find one. Anyone know a web source that I can look at? Thanks.
  4. Glad to know my memory isn't completely gone.... Had a hell of a good time during that assignment. Flying was super, even the recovery training missions were interesting. A lot better than PPros.
  5. Can't remember all the tail numbers of the Bs right now, just a few, 526, 527, 528, 962. Don't know why these 4 stand out, and maybe I got them wrong. CRS you know. The Ps look right. Only 3 P models assigned. The N was borrowed as Herkfixer said. The N model was primo. Had the reclining FE seat. Was told that when it got back to McCellan that the first thing that was checked was the FE seat to make sure it hadn't been swapped out! Bob, not sure where the HC/Hs were before Hickam. Before my time there so I can't comment on their previous assignments or paint schemes. In all my moves, etc., I now can't find my log books that I kept on dates, times, tail numbers, missions, cargos, etc. Bummer. Maybe the ex got those in the divorce as well!
  6. Got some hours on her at Hickam. Was converted into a JHC-130H, along with 2 others, for the Hickam mission. Originally an HC so I believe it had the 2 LOX converters. Standard mission protocol was to launch a telemetry bird that flew to Elmendorf tracking the satellite and a weather bird with a weather officer on board to check the weather down range. Then a P model and HH-53 towards the recovery area, and 5 recovery birds. A P model was kept in reserve and launched later for HH-53 assistance. The recovery birds got 1 shot at the recovery. If they missed or didn't get lined up properly, then the next in line would try, etc. Once winched on-board, only the rear riggers and the Nav saw the satellite as it was put into a sealed metal container and loaded onto a C-141 upon landing and off to California. Only mission that really stands out in my mind was a weather recon mission I had on a B model. Ended up changing the recovery area 3 times, back and forth downrange and farther downrange, before the weather was good enough. Barely made it back to Hickam with the remaining fuel.
  7. I doubt if I would fly with symmetrical indicators out. Once the symmetrical tanks were dipped the symmetrical fuel gage was used as the "fuel quantity reading" for the inop symmetrical tank. It would take a critical situation or a command directive to get me in the seat.
  8. Remember flying out of the 16 TATS with 2 student pilots and an IP (I'm sure we all know the type) who thought he could just unscrew the light that came on in-flight and stated that we could continue with the training mission - we were flying PP at Barksdale. Guess he was trying to impress the 2 students. I got him off headset and told him that if he didn't shut-down the engine and head back to LRF that we'd be standing in front of the CC and the flight safety officer as soon as we got back to the squadron. Don't remember if it was a switch or low oil since they cancelled the flight and I never checked with maintenance afterwards. Point being - procedures.....
  9. Here goes. http://www.gunreports.com/news/handguns/Arsenal-Firearms-Double-Barrel-45-AF2011-A1-45-ACP_3890-1.html?CMP=OTC-RSS "The AF2011-A1 obviously features a number of very special parts, such as the single slide, the single frame, the single spur double hammer, the single grip safety, the single body double mainspring housing and the single double cavity magazine floor plate, the long and double magazine latch, the special barrel bushings and the hold open lever and side lever safety with long shafts." Shoot somebody with this sucker and they're going to know they've been shot. Not many flesh wounds i'd bet.
  10. Before I hit the 2nd bottle I'd make sure I got a good visible look at the engine.
  11. As a FE, away from home station or maintenance, or just want to get out of where I'm at, pull the CB and dip the tanks.
  12. I'm going to take a WAG at this but since I was never a Herc wrench turner, i'd say look at the check valve in the run-a-around circuit. On the other hand, I don't see how the ground test valve being tied would cause the 500 psi with it being tied. Unless the GTV itself is faulty. But like I said it's all a WAG.
  13. Two bowling teams, one of all Blondes and one of all Brunettes, charter a doubledecker bus for a weekend trip to Louisiana . The Brunette team rode on the bottom of the bus, and the Blonde team rode on the top level. The Brunette team down below really whooped it up, having a great time, when one of them realized she hadn't heard anything from the Blondes upstairs. She decided to go up and investigate. When the Brunette reached the top, she found all the Blondes in fear, staring straight ahead at the road, clutching the seats in front of them with white knuckles. The brunette asked, 'What in the world is going on up here? We're having a great time downstairs!' One of the Blondes looked up at her, swallowed hard and whispered, "YEAH SURE, YOU'VE GOT A DRIVER".
  14. Tusker, Trans-Rec were on B's an up - 2 Ess DC bus and 2 Main DC bus. If I remember correctly they were mounted just forward of the flight deck ladder. It's been 26 years since I stepped into a Herc. But damn sure still miss it. Maybe even the 5 hour pilot pros.
  15. 29 Palms? Sorta sounds like my recip tech school class!
  16. Sort of the question I asked earlier, about the re-designations - HC-H's had the Fulton nose, HC-P's had the Fulton nose and refueling pods, HC-N's had the regular nose, refueling pods, and reclining FE seat... Now it seems they're all MC-P's. The 73 H models really were nothing more than 72 E models with -15s. Sure could have used the upgraded flight deck ACs during the summers at LRF (75-77 and 78-82) but....
  17. I was stationed at WP twice, 69-70 and 72-75. Nice base but way too many civilians and Generals. Mostly worked in Area C, the main base area, but worked in Area B a few times - mostly when doing mods on the JC-131B's, and then again on the VC-118A's. A lot of history in Area B. If you believe TV shows, that's where the aliens (not the illegal kind) are being kept. Saw many of the older aircraft being rebuild in Area B for the museum. Had a close look at a ME109 that was torn apart. Also cut the foam and packed the fuel tanks in an AC-130A. I think it was the initial test but could be mistaken.

    Amazing gun

Maybe for the zombie apocalypse. Or neighborhood watch!
  19. Aliens trying to mind-control a cow. LMAO. Of course, I had a few students that had this exact same look.
  20. If there had been a FE on board he probably would have had something to say to the pilot before and after the stunt..... And it probably wouldn't have been very nice...
  21. Thanks Dan. Sound like a cluster-f*** for the FEs and performance calcs. Sounds worse that when I pulled out the wrong -1-1 or whiz wheel at LRF and had to redo TOLD data - E's vs 73 H's.
  22. See what happened when they made us all C's instead of A's! Of course that was back in the day before the current AFSC designation change. Back in '79 when I went through the FE Performance School (out of the 16 TATS at LRF) as part of the C-130 FE certification for the school you could almost read the the writing on the wall. Thinking back on it maybe I should have taken the job offer to instruct there. At least that way there would have been a Herc FE giving some insight into the program. But that would have taken me out of the flight deck and relegated me to going to Dyess once a month or so for currency.
  23. Guess what I was getting at was when I was flying the HC-H's and P's at Hickam had the Fulton radome and the HC-N we borrowed when we had a P in depot had the regular radome. Now it looks like they all have the regular radome and are called P's, including the H's that were given pods.
  24. Saw this picture and laughed.
