Boeing: Boeing Team Delivers C-130H Aerial Refueling Tanker to Japan GIFU, Japan, April 20, 2010 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] and partners Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) and Cobham Mission Systems today announced that they have delivered a C-130H aerial refueling tanker to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). The JASDF took delivery in late February at KHI Gifu Works after the aircraft completed modification and acceptance for testing at the KHI facility in Gifu. KHI modified the C-130H, originally designed as a transport aircraft, to incorporate Cobham air-to-air refueling pods and Boeing design modifications affecting the structure, wiring and fuel sy…

I am spending too much time today on Google Earth. I was looking at El Alto Airport in La Paz Bolivia. I saw at their AF museum that they have added a C-130A. Pic attached. It is white and the only A's that were white were TAM-69 CP-2184 3228 and Tam-66 CP-2187 3144. 3144 was in pretty bad shape, so I'm guessing the one in the Museum is 3228. Anyone know for sure? Any pics? Bob

Book Review: “The Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules: A Complete Historyâ€, by Peter C. Smith (Crecy Publishing, latest printing 2010). My first recommendation is DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BOOK—IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY (list price $49.95). Being a C-130 fan, I am a sucker for C-130 books. I regret that a got suckered into buying this one. Even though I have not read the text to discover what inaccuracies exist there, I found that many of the photo captions in this book are inaccurate or totally incorrect. The captions appear as though the author simply fabricated them instead of performing research to ensure they are accurate. Here are a few examples of the fabrica…

Hi Got a little BRAC info this AM. 328 AS Niagra Falls is going to 12 C130 H\'s. It will be an AFRC unit with an ANG Associate unit. (Boy is that pork politics!!) The H\'s will come from 105 AS TN ANG and from Minneapolis(my guess 96AS) The 8 H\'s 92 models are leaving. (To where?) FayetteNam Observer said this AM that half the E models at Pope are gone and the rest are to be gone by summer. There will be 16 H\'s at Pope owned by 95 AS AFRC flown by 95AS and an active duty associate unit 2 AS. The 16 herks are 8 from Milwaukee 95 AS birds nand 8 from Pittsburgh 758 AS. 758 has already received 8 older H\'s from 185 AS OK ANG. Three Questions? Since 53AS is no…

Has anyone heard what is going on with the BRAC changes? I read that 164 AS was to close at Mansfield OH (When?/Herks to?) 135 AS was to close at Baltimore, J\'s to LRF (When?) 105 AS was to close at Nashville, now to be a FTU with WC-130H. Where are the Nashville Herks going? Thanks Bob

Hi All, Back in 2014 Brazil 2470 Lock 4441 suffered substantial damage landing in Antarctica. I heard they had plans to repair it and fly it out. Does anyone know if it was repaired? Thanks Bob

We just finished a project today and as we loaded the truck during the hour of 1300 the sound of the four fans of freedom started getting louder and we all looked up into the Tehachapi sky and saw a Euro green stretch Herk with RAF markings. Could not get exact tail numbers due to the fact they were right over head. The refueling probe sticking out the front and the red and blue markings on the tail confirmed a RAF Herk. Always a pleasure to hear a herk in the air in our area. Tehachapi, California in case you all were wondering, is the center of the aviation universe, and the home of Adaptive Aerospace. we are nestled nicely in the mountains between Bakersfield and Ed…

This is a long shot but I was wondering if any of you old timers on this board were in the 17th TAS at the Dorf in Jan. 1972. I was stationed at Hill AFB in the 1550 ATTW. I was on night shift when I got a call from the AC of a transient A model. They had RONed at Hill and the TA crew had towed their airplane while they were in crew rest and he thought they had broke it. When I got there the FE told me to look in the left wheel well. What I saw was hard to believe...the lower fwd shoe had popped out of the track on the fwd gear and the jackscrew was bowed like a dogs hind leg and had retracted about 2-3 inches. He says...can you help us...Ha Ha I says. This was way before…

Hello all I am trying to ascertain the current sub-type of Bu.164993. As far as I'm aware, this was built as a standard C-130T, however, some suggest this was modified as KC-130T (circa 2005). Can anyone confirm please? Kind regards and many thanks in advance, Chris

Hello everybody, every now and then raises a question, which I am unable to solve with the available resources in the internet. There come my friends in this forum... :-) Flap lever: Does the flap lever have idents? Why ist the flap lever mounted so far aft in the center pedestal? On pictures of the 130J cockpit it looks very uncomfortable/unergonomic to handle the lever. Cursor device: Looks like a fixed joystick....what is the purpose of the cursor device? Are there any cursors used in th MFDs? What are the functions of the buttons? Coolie hats? Are there buttons on lower side (aka firebutton)? Thanks in advance, greetings from Bavaria and an joyous 2014 …

Am looking for information about this incident. Air Force reports appear to be inconsistent. Additional remains of the 5 member crew, my brother being one, have not yet been identified, nor will the AF release location where remains were found. I would be most grateful for any help.
