Hi Fellow Herky Jerkers, I'm really happy to be back. I never really went anywhere except to the hospitals and to the Happy Hunting Grounds 4 times. Briefly, I've had some nasty surgeries, The 5 way coronary bypass, the partial foot amputation for gangerene, and 4 fatal heart attacks resulting in an ICD implant. The little machine in my chest is doing the trick and I'm almost my old self again. I was somewhat of a specialty in the hospital because when they prepped me for the surgery they found out that I had been dead 3 times at home. We thougt that I was passing out and my wife revived me all 3 times by pouring ice water on me and beating on my chest and back. …

I guess the powers that be DO occassionally listen to the outrage created by their dumb decisions. It seems Chuck Hagel has decided to scrap plans for the "Drone Medal". It just didn't pass the smell test and he had to back down after hearing all the displeasure expressed by all of us. (:

I know some of y'all have stories that should be in the book! --Casey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From their website: http://www.herkanon.com The C-130 has played the role of the American work horse since it entered the service in the 1950s. Throughout the years, the C-130 has particiapted in countless military, civilian and humanitarian air operations. We are looking for your OEF, OIF and JTF HOA stories. The perfect story is one page long (about 250 words), full of Herk jargon, and told from your point of view. Share your emotions. Share your passion. Don't be shy...bring it bold and trut…

I was talking with an Honor Flight rep the other day at a gun show. He said the hardest part of getting every WWII vet back to Washington DC to see the memorial, was hunting them down. Due to privacy reg's, nobody can actually give out WWII veterans' names to Honor Flight. If you know any WWII vets who would like to have an all expenses paid trip to DC, pls send theri names to www.honorflight.org. They & the remaining WWII vets, need our help. Thnx

He lost his battle with cancer on January 14 2013 and went to fly that bird in the sky. He served his country with honor and devotion for 26 years in the United States Air Force,a person that everyone respected and depended upon, with a sense of humor and a warm smile that was with him at the end. He was the father to six children and 18 grandchildren. He was a great friend and coworker to many. He will be greatly missed by all.

Guys, we had a major discussion on the subject of "reunions" at the TCTAA convention a couple of weeks ago and the general consensus is that there are too many and it costs too much to try to attend all of those a person is eligible for. It costs at least $1,000 just for transportation and lodging for each event. It makes a lot more sense to have one national event somewhere each year or so for anyone who was involved in the troop carrier/tactical airlift missions. Granted, those units that are already having them are going to continue but the numbers at the various events are dwindling. The Sewart Association isn't going to have any more and there are other groups that a…

This October the 61st is going to be celebrating our 70th birthday in a big way! Stay tuned for more information but in the meantime, recruit all the Green Hornets you can find to like our FaceBook page. All former members will be playing a big part of our day. The past 24 hours have been shocking to me. Yesterday was Mike Lyon's birthday and I made a birthday wish on his Facebook page. A few minutes later I got a message from Ken Smith that he had passed away recently. I found his obit online. Mike lived in Lake City, FL. I had talked to him just a few months ago. He was an engineer in the 29th at Clark when I was there. Then today I got a call from Ralph Bemis that he had heard that Chris Gray had passed away, but wasn't sure if it was a rumor or true. I went online and found his obituary - http://www.stephensondearman.com/services.asp?page=odetail&id=616&locID=1. Chris was my roommate at Charleston when I got there fr…

Greetings Fellow Airlifters and friends: I want to let everyone know that Rex Riley is putting together our next reunion. It will be held at Hampton, VA and numerous events are planned. Those of you who attended last year's reunion in Dayton, know how much fun it was. So make plans to attend and let any and all fellow 316th personnel, both ground and aircrew, know about what's going on. The hotel listed below has given us a very good price for rooms. I recommend you contact them sooner than later. This is the notice going out to veterans magazines, etc. 316 Tactical Airlift Wing Reunion, (All Personnel, Langley Air Force Base, VA. 1965 -75) September 18 -…
