Yes, one of the best acft i ever flew on. Reliable, fast RZ Hill
  2. I remember the flood bird being 1392, to many rum& cokes. RZ
  3. I don't blame him in any way, the wimp in the WH needs to go back to his fatherland, take all of his crooks with him. He's worse than Carter. Having a stepson over there on his 4th tour woe be it if something happens to him!! RZ Hill
  4. The pressure was changed in the 85 fiscal year build and up. RZ
  5. Dave, 1798 was the one that came back from depot with the "refurbed" left wing that had numerous scab patches on the upper wing surface. It also was the one with the "loose" truss mount for #1 engine that showed some weird vibrations. Didn't like that acft much, came home once with 14 red x items. RZ , you still postin?
  6. Dave. are you afflicted with CRS? The other acft in the group was 62-1798. I think all of them had the nutserts around the "stars and bars". Sure were pieces of crap when we got them 84 was a corrosion nightmare, but they eventually worked into great acft that we could take anywhere with pride!. RZ Hill

Now in this tight time why in hell do we have to open another unit and all of it's command structure when The Guard unit in place , currently doing this type of training, could easily expand it's size and do this training. Where do they think they are going to come up with another 714 trained folks? I guess they will take first termers out of the a/d. Lots of experience there. I thought that was the reasoning of using Dobbins for training, to have experienced instructors. Here we go , another maint group, dock etc. Then they are going to downsize NO Hope Pope by 1/4. Doesn't make good sense. Shortly we will have another BRAC, there will probably be another round of closings, how would this deal look, to the commitee? I don't think there will be an iron grab this time, the Guard and Reserve H2-3's will not be compatable to a "j" unit, No Navs. FE's. What is going to happen one of these days is the spirit of a unit is going to be broken , and then what?? Sure glad I was in "in the good old days" When preformance, unit quality was tops on the list. RZ Hill

    AF 2011

Actually Dave all 8 of our 88 fiscal year birds are now "wombats" . This was really planned before we got them and the only reason we got them was that the A?D didn't have the money in it's budget to purchase them at that time. Remember these birds were "stripped" version's , No SKI etc. Dam good flying acft tho. After a few years the call went out for the acft and our eloustrious Congressmen negotated the C-5"s to Martinsburg, H-3's to Charleston. Charlie West has already given one acft to the AMP (a money pocket) program. The three acft involved now sit worthless to a field Commander due to nonsupportability. Much as I hate to see the FE'S go, the "j" is good for the a/d . As for schooling, I remember in 75 that we had a two week ground school, week of simulator , 15 hours of instructor time and out the door. Worked for us. Why do we now need all these training units. LR a/d, Lr Guard, Nashville, Dobbins. ? Seems like overkill to me. The best training you will get is with your home unit, in actual missions. This is where the Guard and Reserve excell. You have the constant mentoring of folks that have flown the line for 20 years, are not stuck in a training environment and who get to see actual missions. I'm not knocking the schools but I feel a better rounded education is given by "hands on" training. Remember we have to do this on one weekend a month and two weeks a year. " yeh Right" RZ Hill

With the A/D going "j" models I don't see the need for an 18 acft unit to train primarly Guard and Reserve FE's and Navs. Typical AFarse overkill. Look at the acft picked, a spread of 78 to 94 Models and all the differences there are in these acft. Typical bean counters really don't know beans about this. RZ

I thought that the Guard unit at Lrafb was doing the Guard training, now the a/d has to stick it's fingers in the pie. Pulling 1/4 of the acft from pope shows that that decision to set it up was a mistake. RZ

I thought the Guard unit was doing this mission , what's the deal? Sure shows that the last grab to pope was a mistake. RZ
  13. From Deleware on up the Hf antenna is in the base of the vertical stab. RZ
  14. Another difference is the Hf Antenna's The long wire are gone , replaced by the antenna at the base of the tail. RZ
  15. The seats man the seats, pitot system Rosemont in 86 I believe. Rz
  16. HMMMM , haven't seen a Guard or reserve unit maintainence squadron in a flight Line Brawl Yet. Glad to see the ad maint has gotten better in the ten years I have been gone. RZ Hill
  17. Let them take ALL of the acft from the AIR FORCE RESERVE!! Isn't that what " RESERVE" means? This problem started 35 years ago when the AD decided the 130 could fly forever and new acft wern't needed. The Guard had started to replace acft in fiscal 78 as the EXPERIENCED folks knew that the airframes would reach a time that it would be impossible to fiscally support these airframes. I remember one Meeting with Sen Byrd in 76 after we got our E's from the far east and spent more money on them than enough to purchase at least 4 new acft, we talked to Sen Byrd and his reply from the AF was that they were the same as the Active was flying. Well that doesn't make it ok and at least the powers to be were smart enough to start replacing the acft. This set 62-1784- 62-1824 has flown as trainers at Little Rock since 86 and I would be proud to fly on one today. , BUT they are tired. Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. If this goes forward, The acft will be junk in a period of four months, definitely not to Guard Standards. What is to happen with the crews in the units affected, These folks are COMBAT READY, are they to be thrown on the street like a used rubber? And if you have the one weekend a month and two weekends a year mentality I've got a bridge I will sell you. Dang politicians don't know crap about the differences in these acft. What a nitemare , every unit has differences and taking acft from 79 to 90 is the work of an idiot. The parts difference is a nitemare. Th Air farce has already taken one acft from Charlie West for the AMP Program. Look at that one, can't use it, no support . Do they think Charlie West breeds them and all they have to do is wait a couple of years and go get another one? Friggin Idiots. We have already given them 8 dam good acft 88-1302-88-1308 for the "w". Heavy training load, on what looks like it is on the "j" fleet that you need the trainers. The GUARD has the bulk of the H2's and H3's. Also there is a mix here of h2 & h3 acft. LR should straighten their Maintenance out to keep more acft in comission. I'm not banging the worker bee"s just supervision and supply. Once again the idiots in Dc have proven their complete ignorance. The units affected barely have enough flying time allocated to keep the crews trained and stripping airframes is stupid. Don't they think these units have acft down for ISO and Depot? I can remember 6000 hours per year for training, not including the time spent on the various rotations oversease and Jatt. Once again we will take to the street in hopes of talking some sense into the Idiots. RZ HIll RETIRED 130TH engineer
  18. There were restrictions based on what kind of cracks and their length in the # 1 or 4 drybays. Flew 62-1784 one trip grossed out every leg to Europe and back, got home on a Sunday eve. Came up to fly on Tuesday and it was in the hanger with cracks over 18" long in both dry bays. Needless to say she sat in the hanger till depot came for her. This was right after the Nacelle longeron fiasco. That was fun . RZ
  19. As a Crewmember I made numerous , numerous trips into this airport. The crews I flew with ALWAYS watched the tape . The landing was tricky tho. If I remember right the Flaps were up on the downwind and the call was missed for 50% flaps. The pilot was one of those know it alls that come along . Watched the news tape on the internet while the acft was burning. RZ Hill
  20. Don't think you could get to #2 before 3&4 locked up. This FE should be shot, and the instructor that trained him with him!!! RZ A's used 3 phase ac to feather the prop also. Dc is the control , ac is the operator.
