  1. Telephonics say they have gotten all the interference problems figured out. They had a booth at ATA a couple years ago when I talked to them about it. They're also supplying the new interphone system for the AMP, whilst it is not wireless, it is improved. I'm gonna get harrassed for using "whilst", aren't I?
  2. 1.1 miles, 1 mile Don'tcha love a smartass?
  3. Just because they look like Rosemont pitot tubes doesn't mean they really are. I really don't know, but if you look at the AMP, you'll swear it has Rosemont, but it doesn't.
  4. This really sucks! I've got some time on 567 and 572 from their Edwards days. Such a shame, I hope they reuse those good strong wingboxes somewhere.
  5. That sounds like the N-G system?

Fantastic system, flew some of the testing on it at Edwards.
  7. And what will make the leak worse? Continued operation? Don't fly it.
  8. You're missing the feather pump motor relay in the lower part of your schematic. The ESS DC energizes the aux feather motor relay, allowing ESS AC to power the aux feather motor. There is no way in hell this old prop will feather statically without ESS AC, no way no how.
  9. I think I read in the Praetorian book something about a Combat Spear prior to the Talon name?
  10. I wouldn't have a single issue with flying like this for any reason.
  11. Well, it wasn't really a direct quote, but that was the response from the DOD. To get the funding originally, it was being sold as extremely critical to the fleet. Now, for Schwartz to say we can do something less complicated makes the AF look like idiots.
  12. Hey, what's up Griff? Took you long enough to find it. You'll remember me from your Little Rock days. Can't remember if I was your FMQ evaluator (62nd) or not, but you were my crew chief many a time in the 61st. I'm back from Edwards teaching now up on the hill. Welcome!
  13. Do you think it was smart, after some years ago convincing all the right folks that the AMP was the most cost-effective means for a most important modification, to say "...well, we really didn't mean it..."?
  14. Dan, is that the TO about flying with known prop malfunctions? If you can argue that the big leak is a malfunction (which I can), then according to this TO, maintenance cannot release the aircraft for, nor will you fly the aircraft. It ties your hands pretty squarely. After all, this is not a combat, or other high priority situation.
  15. Yeah, well 65 million per copy, back then, should get you a whole lot more than that!
  16. The AMP has a converter included with it. See, you get your money's worth!
  17. I thought that on the '92 models, the overheat indicator was in the nacelle? SEFE, you're right. Nacelle overheat was an afterthought that was added in later years...not sure which model. I'm not old enough to know this, only what I was told.
  18. Dan, I couldn't have agreed with you more....until I started flying and understanding the AMP setup. Once we figured out that we can pretty much trust the system, the need for a constant scan goes away. Instead of trying to read the digits & figure out how much it's fluctuating, wait until the entire gage turns yellow or red, accompanied by a master caution or warning. That's how we're going to be able to spend more productive time keeping our ass from hitting stuff we aren't supposed to, or vice versa. Believe me, I was with you when I saw the LCD gages on the 95 models. AMP takes the whole thing to another level. No more need to rebuild gages, or troubleshoot gage or system problem. This thing is going to make everyone's life much easier & cost us much less in upkeep, with the bonus of being able to communicate & navigate through the modern airspaces that are popping up. All you need is an open mind.
  19. Don't count on the NP2000 AND the AMP happening anytime soon. I guess the LCs are funded for NP2000 and are currently in the process of converting to the electronic valve housing right now. BTW, you can't have NP2000 without the elec valve housings, that's part of the mod. But you can have the elec valve housing without the 8-bladed props. Hey Bischoffm, keep up, the AF has been directed to proceed with AMP without delay by the lawmakers.
  20. It will matter not in a couple of years anyway, as all H-3s will be upgraded to the AMP. No more round dials for the engines. My advice to the Navy is obvious...get rid of the old stuff.
  21. Welcome to the Herc world. In spite of my name on here, I teach FEs up on the hill now. You're at the best place in the world to learn lots about the airplane.
  22. That's not true. The fire light will light up regardless if you've forgotten to reset. Although, I have been known to not know everything.
  23. The reason for it is so that maintenance can tell if, after you come home with one shut down due to the fire light coming on, whether the light was caused by a fire loop or nacelle overheat circuit. Pretty simple, right? So if you didn't reset it during your preflight, and you were to have a fire handle light up, they wouldn't know where to start right off on their troubleshooting.
  24. From what I understand, it has to do with the company who produced and/or serviced them. I think the company went out of business & the gages all became unsupportable. Thanks for pointing out one of the many benefits/advantages of the AMP mod! Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
