  8. I think he means near the front and aft of the gear fairing.
  9. I have a number of sqd and other patches that i'd contribute.
  10. At one time I may have know, but it's the age thing, C.R.S. (can't remember s**t!). The H's I am familiar with are the 73 Hs and the 74 Hs. What's the H2, H2.5, and H3 differences?
  11. Flew with Sal in the 16th school squadron in the early 80's. Good troop.
  12. Hmmm, wasn't Dip Stick Assembly another name for the butter-bar co-pilots?
  13. If you flew with an inop fuel gauge you had to dip the tank and verify fuel quantity. There were times when the dip stick was missing, so you just took the broom handle and dipped the tank and then the opposite tank to see how close they were on the handle. Assuming that there was no tilt to the bird. I think 2% was max tilt. Wasn't JP-4 6.4 lbs/gal? JP-5 at 6.9 sounds right.
  14. I was in the 17th 82-86, FE, IFE, SEFE. I seem to remember talk of the crash but somehow I recall it was on take-off not landing.... Maybe a memory issue! Sparrevohn was always a challenge. It was a tough site. Fly over "Pu$$y Ridge", immediate rapid descent until landing, and oh, miss the huge lip at the approach end of the runway. Once on the runway, in the winter, we did the tough and go checklist. If the parking ramp was icy and the plane started sliding on the sloped ramp as you tuned around, you just turned the nose down the runway and took off.
  15. RZ, guess we could say that for every congressman and president that was or ever will be.....including Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy, Carter, Reagan, Bush(s), Stevens, yada, yada, yada....etc., etc., etc.
  16. Well RZ, we all have skeletons in our closets, including the serving senators, representatives, and every military person out there. He did screw up, and paid for it. He missed his chance at the White House. JFK and RFK had some black marks, as well as both Bushes. Especially the 2nd. Sen Stevens and many others. The difference being Stevens and W never paid for their mistakes. I don't like the results of the Mary Joe incident. But he did serve, and served a lot longer in public service, than any military member served. Military time may not equate to congress time, but he did get a lot of bills passed to help the people, and he didn't "retire" as soon as he was eligible. I'm not necessarily be a fan, but do appreciate that he served.
  17. Regards of political leanings, and some "fou pas" (sp), Sen. Kennedy served the American people for many years. Was he any worse than some of the others one's in Washington? Maybe. Maybe not. The Kennedy clan did serve the American people. And died in service to the people. RIP at 77.
  18. "Boy, can you squeal like a pig?"
  19. In my day I worked with a few FEs that seemed to ride side-saddle, but not in any aircraft. Could have made an augmented crew......tense-full.....
  20. Can't remember for sure but it seems to be that the -1 said something about the impact lights coming on at 2-3 G's. But that was 20 years ago and my memory isn't what it used to be. The last time that I wrote up a bird for a hard landing was at the school house and the IP, who's ego was much bigger than his skill level, asked how I judged the landing to be hard. So I told him that I had to pull the nose gear strut out of my A** as I got out of my seat.... It was probably the hardest landing I ever experienced including assaults. Luckily the IP, a major, was on his way to another assignment anyway. That being with the 89th at Andrews. Lucky for me, bad for them..... :D
  21. We just bought a 2009 Jeep Liberty. Told the wife I was gonna get some of those wheels and rims, and a major stereo upgrade. In a "polite way", for the forum, she asked me if I wanted to keep those dangly things men have! :D
  22. Interesting. I was in the 2954 CLSS at Kelly back in the early 70's after RVN. Depot maintenance on C-5 and B-52, and RAM teams on T-38, F-5, and T-37. Go figure for a recip guy who worked the Boos in RVFN.
  23. As far as I can recall they were all at the Rock when I was there, 75-77 and 79-82. Been too many years, and way too much alcohol consumption, but I seem to recall that 1580 was the only gray bird at the time.
  24. When I was stationed at Kelly in the early 70s, we did the tourist thing, and went to the movie set of "The Alamo" and the old missions around the area. Interesting.
  25. I came across these and thought all of you would appreciate them. If they don't bring a tear to your eye, then..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FRYiCIXxd4
