Well, it's a few days late, but better late than never right? Got those shiny things put on Sep 22 upon completion of the Basic Loadmaster course at the Career Enlisted Aviator Center of Excellence, Lackland AFB. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't prouder than hell of those things. And yes, I graduated a day early in ABU's so I could chamber the next day (class grad date) and not screw up my training dates. Ended up having a week holding over at Lackland anyway. Who knew? Anyone on Facebook can add the "BLM - Basic Loadmaster" page and see pictures of many of the recent classes' graduations. Here's a couple of mine. Let's just say Momma made sure they stuck! :D

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this yet, but B/Gen. Harry "Heinie" Aderholt passed away this past week at the age of 90. Although he was never directly involved with C-130s, he had a long association with them indirectly. In 1960 he took command of the USAF/CIA office at Kadena and was in charge of the "E Flight" C-130 operations once the airplanes passed from USAF control to his. He detailed the operation in his biography AIR COMMANDO ONE, including telling how a young 1/Lt. named Jim Baginski from Naha was one of the USAF project officers. He commanded the air commando wing at NKP which included the CANDLESTICK C-123s and NIMROD A-26s. After retiring as a colon…

I just learned that the home of Steve and Linda Privette was destroyed by Hurricane Ike. Steve was an APG mechanic at Sewart and Naha, where he was in the 41st TAS. He currently works at the Johnson Space Center in Clear Lake. Steve and Linda had a home in the little community of San Leone, which is on Galveston Bay off of Texas 146. According to the media, about 40% of the homes there were demolished and theirs was one of them. Although not a C-130 vet, Frank Godek is a retired C-124,C-141 and C-7 engineer who lives in Bayou Vista, another community located on on the body that connects the Gulf with Galveston Bay on the north side of Galveston Island. I talked to Fra…

I was talking with an Honor Flight rep the other day at a gun show. He said the hardest part of getting every WWII vet back to Washington DC to see the memorial, was hunting them down. Due to privacy reg's, nobody can actually give out WWII veterans' names to Honor Flight. If you know any WWII vets who would like to have an all expenses paid trip to DC, pls send theri names to www.honorflight.org. They & the remaining WWII vets, need our help. Thnx
