Found these photos of the 21TAS history board in the squadron briefing room ca. 1975. As I recall, the aircraft silhouettes and squadron insignia were made of wood by Bito's in Angeles City. The central photo showing the squadron history in photos was compiled from the squadron history book and current (at that time) photos from the squadron information officer's files. The map was drawn by the base graphics section. Hope these photos bring back some good memories for you other Beeliners out there.

Any of you guys out there, marines in particular, remember a Marine 130 from Cherry Point doin' a no-flap landing at 29 Palms with I think #'s 1 and 2 caged???? I would guess maybe late 90's sometime?? The doc that did did my wife's bunion surgery was a flight surgeon and was on that bird......He told me it was a bit hairy, to say the least. I was hopin' to find someone who knew of it or was on it as well. I gotta say, he did a terrific job on her foot, almost no major discomfort, compared to what many others had experienced from other docs. Anyway, they apparently were successful even though it took damn near the whole runway to land.......... just wonderin' Giz

I recently was contacted by Earl Cole, the nephew of F/E Ralph Lund, a longtime C-130 guy who was in the 41st at Naha and then went to McGuire and from there to CCK. Ralph was killed in September, 1968 on an E-model that was "apparently" lost to ground fire. Earl, however, has heard that they may have been victim to "friendly fire." If anyone has any details, drop me a note at and I'll forward it to Earl. Earl is on Facebook.

I have posted these before, but they have long since disappeared and now that there are a lot of new members on the forum, especially old Naha guys, I thought I would post them again with hopes you will find yourself or somebody you recognize in them!! These pics were taken in November 1968 ( I'm pretty sure!!). If you were in the 35th during that time you should recognize Msgt. Andy Haskell and Msgt. Galloway. (Flight Chief & 1st. Sgt.) !! I do know a lot of the names and there are some I can't remember--maybe we can help each other out and identify them all. Thanks for your help, Ken Carlson I have some more but will quit while I am ahead.

Did the 37th TAS use this design while with the 316th TAW at Langley in the early 70's ?

Every once in awhile this squadron, the 37th TAS, at Langley is mentioned and always presented in a good light. In Jan. of 1967 I rotated back to Langley for the last 7 months of my enlistment (I hated it there), and for some reason I assumed that it was the 37th that I was assigned to. However after recieving a packet of personel files I requested from the USAF I see I was assigned to the 38th TCS, Langley. Could some one shed a little light on this matter? Was there two different C-130 squadrons at Langley in that time frame? If there was two, or more C-130 squadrons at Langley in 1967 was there a huge difference in the leadership, moral, etc.? Without going into a lot …

I was browsing the gallery and an image of this aircraft popped up in the random images. Anyone know what happened to cause the damage that resulted it it being written off in Nov 84?

45 years after Doc Jensen's crew was picked up from the burning wreckage of their plane (63-7775 c/n 3841) while under fire from the bad guys, the Army helicopter crews that rescued them have finally been awarded the Silver Star. This was one of the planes shot down during the An Loc Airdrops of 1972. The rescue probably saved the lives of the entire crew. You can easily find all the stories of the Battle of An Loc on the Internet. The crews who recently received the Silver Star for the rescue are the ones who picked up the C-130 crew of Capt. Don (Doc) Jensen after his plane was hit during the air drops and crashed into unfriendly territory. Fox News Art…

Was looking through the Gallery and came across this picture. I thought 4578 was a 74 H model but it looks like an E model in the picture. What's the story with the bombs?

I recently ran across the following article in an old newspaper and I think you should read it. This article was written in 1959. LET’S DISPLAY THE FLAG People who have been decrying the fact that we have gotten out of the practice of flying the American Flag will have a chance to put their good intentions into action on Sunday – Flag Day. On that day the United States pays homage to the 48-starred flag for the last time – officially. Informally, the nation on Sunday says good-bye to the standard it has known longest (since Arizona was admitted as a state in 1912) – the flag which had led its forces into two world wars and the blood hostilities i…

Morning I am involved in the celebration of 50 years of flying of NZ 7001 (64-4052) being the first C130H. We are aiming to have a celebration in November and would love any early/production photos while she was being constructed. We are celebrating the aircraft and not 50 years of operation. Any one out there was the test flying/construction crew stories would be great. Also look forward the discussion of the RNZAF operating the same aircraft model for 50 years. Thanks John

Today is the 50th anniversary (Nov. 24,1969) of the date my plane, C-130A tail number 56-0533, was shot down over Laos during a Blind Bat flare mission.

A few years back, I donated my coin to a friend's (Keith Saunders) retirement shadow box thinking I had another coin squirreled away somewhere. Well, after searching through my stash of coins, various - I realize that I don't have a spare. Specifically, I'm looking for the coin we used sometime in '93-94 when I was there (yep, a short time). It said, "50th TAS / ALS / AS or whatever you want to call us" on one side and had a list of aircraft around the edge of the other. Of course, it had the Red Devil emblazoned on one side as well. Let me know if anyone has an extra they'd be willing to part with...it's time for my shadow box.
