I have a couple questions that maybe you guys can help with. #1- I'm trying to find the part numbers for the flight control gust locks. The ones we have are shoddy homemade types that no one really trusts. We're trying to get the official ones in. So far I've looked through the 00GE and several -4's to no avail. #2- Does anyone know if there's a CAST (Command Aircraft Systems Training) manual for J models? I have one for E/H models, but I'd like to get one for J's if there is such an animal. Thanks.

I have a question for the prop guys: as a crew chief, i was taught that when you feathered a prop, everything was shut off. hyd fluid, oil, elect, fuel, etc. A man by the name of Eric L Haney was a delta force operator and in his book,'inside delta force' he states that on that failed hostage rescue mission in iran in the middle of the desert in 1980, that the 130 he was on,'the engines continued to run,but the props were feathered'.All of my teaching says thats impossible. Or was he mistaken? Did they feather the props and he heard the GTC running? Would the crews even have shut down the eng's in that circumstance? Anyone know any extra info that they are allowed to share? …

Hi, I am wondering if anyone has experience with the A/M32A-95 (LASS cart). My question is not so much C-130 related, but in operation of the airstart unit. We work with these, but not as much as the -60A. The -95's we see sometimes experience intermittent flameouts when coming off load to return to idle speed (60%). I am just wondering if anyone has had this experience? I'd appreciate any comments or email me directly. Kind Regards, Tom Timmermann [email protected]

Avionics/radio & radar guys, have you experience this defect before? C-130H, equipped with radio low range altimeter AL-101 (interfaces with GPWS, FCS-105, and TCAS) Whenever the “CAN DO†hits the 300 AGL the “OFF FLAG†of Radio Alt. appears accompanied with failure of the other related system mentioned above. Yet, unfortunately I am out of proper test equipment. Voltage and continuity checks, done. Doesn’t show any abnormality. Radio Alt. R/T changed. Radio alt. indicator changed. Still the bird behaving the same, above 300 feet flag “ON†below 300 feet back to normal operation. Can I go for the antennas, and which one? Any suggestions to…

C130 Experts !!! We r facing a problem of generator out light on No 3 Eng for last 1 month in which AC generator, contactor, FS Relay, AC control panel alongwith Chassis, Voltage regulator is replaced but problem persists and require resetting many times to come inline. Problem mostly occurs on takeoff roll and on landing and sometimes in air. Also if we put essential bus load on No 3 Generator, it becomes offline with Vol, Freq and load zero. It gets duplicated sometime on ground as well during ground run.

OK... Currently the ACI&EFC Inverter is in the Ess AC Bus position for takeoff (KC/C-130T) and all the other models I have inquired about... (Older aircraft) Question is why not run the inverter and take advantage of the "auto switch" function if the inverter fails while preventing the need to "manually switch" the inverter ON if the Ess AC Bus fails. I cannot find a reason to NOT use the inverter it just has always been this way. So run the inverter until after takeoff and then switch it to the Ess AC position at some point in the climb/after takeoff checklist. Pro Cons Need some good feedback on this please.

Gentlemen, According to the Flight Manual, Flight Idle RPM is 92.5-100.5 %. If RPM in flight idle were to decrease as low as 92.5% what would prevent the acceleration bleed valves from opening below 94%. Do they actually open during Flight Idle operations in this case? Thanks all.

Please...Please...Correct me if I am wrong, I have been kicking myself about this for a while now: The ADH's RPM is that of the RGB, 1020RPM. It has to be, seeing that the Speed Sensing Control is an alternate mounting site for the Tach Generator, 1020RPM = 100% RPM. Why then, when setting the 94% switch on the Speed Sensing Contol, would we set it to activate between 3830RPM and 3930 RPM?
