I was digging around in the ol' computer looking for one thing and came across something else, I had forgotten all about. Every now and then we get started on the topic of VA and the broken compensation program. Some time ago there was a guy by the name of Jim Strickland who ran a web site called "The A to Z Guide: Veterans Disability Benefits". This site operates hand in glove with another site, "VA Watchdog". Both of these resources are excellent!!!! I've attached a document I down loaded from one of those sites and you will find it interesting and entertaining!!!!!!! tinwhistle Jim Strickland lettter.doc

If you can prove you had boots on the ground in Vietnam and had heart bypass surgery the VA will give you 60% disibilty.

A few months ago I decided to drop a line to the AF records correction guys. I told them I had never gotten the VN service medal and campain medal but had been TDY several times to VN from Clark. Sent them copies of orders, travel vouchers and 214's etc.. Well they just sent me a nice official letter with one each (MEDAL SET,VIETNAM SERVICE ,REGULAR SIZE) They said I spent over 5 months in-country and an updated 214 will be sent to me. Well 40 years late ain't too bad for our gub-ment I guess, ha ha . The campain medal has to be approved by another office, down the hall. I guess it pays to keep your old paperwork! Was this normal to NOT get the medal because we were TDY …

You may racall that a few weeks ago I ran into an old aquaintance and as a result of our conversation I urged him to see the County Veterans Service Office about compensation regarding the postrate cancer surgery he just had. Well, I saw him yesterday and he has not, as of this writing, seen our CVSO. On the same topic: at the suggestion of Sam McGowan I have sent a letter to Rep. Jeff Miller, Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, Washingto DC. The letter explains the problem that so many of us have in proving our Vietnam service, this whole "boots" thing. I went into a lot of detail and included a packet of various documents to support my effort. This…

This has probably been discussed on the board many times but I just discovered the MB. I have hearing loss and rigging. I saw my doctor yesterday and she said my loss was consistent with what she has seen for flight crew. She is certified by the VA to do VA connected testing. She said I should file a claim and they should have the DB data for my job code and the C-130...Any one got any suggestions or advice...My job code was A60750..C-130 Loadmaster.. Many engine running off loads in Vietnam but I wasn't really there so I can't claim that...YET!! Thanks

I tried posting this once and it got lost. Can anyone help this lady get Nam benefits for her dad. Thanks Bob My name is Donna Suen. I am the daughter of retired MSgt. A.J. Green. I found his name on this forum. Jrkaegi had mentioned his name and the tail # of his plane on this forum. bobdaley mentioned that my dad still hung out at the VFW in Jacksonville. I am trying to help my dad get service connected disabilty from the VA. They denied us because we couldn't prove that he was "boots on the ground" in Vietnam. I have a picture of my dad, and another service man in front of the "Saphire" (as it is spelled on the plane), but it doesn't prove he was in Vietnam. …

I was station in RTAFB Ubon, Thailand between Oct. 1968 thur Oct. 1969. I was just diagnosis diabetes mellitus, type II. I worked on the F-4's on the fuel system part of the fighter. I know our fighter flew in Vietnam all the time doing there mission's and I know they sprayed Agent Orange out back of C-130's all the time and we were all over our planes doing our job. We all probably came in contract with Agent Orange but did not know it. I flew on C-130's into and out of Vietnam but know to prove it. What I want to know has anyone came down with diabetes being station in Thailand?? I'm thinking about filing a claim with the Va. How long do the keep the manifest who flew a…

Just spent 3 days in the Elmendorf AFB hospital with breathing problems. Since I'm a VA patient Providence Hospital transferred me to JBER for admittance. Come to find out on top of my COPD I've got a "blemp" (?) on the top of my left lung which is blocking some of the O2/CO2 transfer. They're wanting to send me to the Seattle Va to get the upper lobe removed to help with the breathing. Guess if this thing bursts it could cause a collapsed lung, etc. Just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with being sent to another state like this, and in this case having to fly there even with my severe COPD and breathing issues? Wondering if VA provides an escort, etc., o…

I have been putting this off for a long time. I am one of those from Naha Okinawa who spent great amounts of time in CRB and it never showed on my DD214. I finally went to the local VA assistance office and the counselor help me put in a claim for disability and to get my DD214 changed to show my Viet Nam service time. I happen to have old travel vouchers and hospital records showing I went to sick call while in CRB. I don't even remember going to sick call while there. Why I kept these old travel vouchers I will never know. The VA contacted me for some tests, with which I complied. They even paid mileage for my car. About three months later I get a letter from the V…

OK I' Going to start out with an easy one. I was PCS at Little Rock from 02/1974-03/1978. I was never" boots on the ground" in SEA. Now I have Parkinson's. Did anyone ever see small amounts of Agent Orange brought in to forward bases for use in perimeter security? I'm trying to establish that the aircraft I worked on every day for four years were contaminated and thus I became contaminated too. Thanks LBG

Hi All, I know some of you have done this before and might be able to help. A CCK crew chief needs to get his DD-214 corrected to show boots on the ground in Viet Nam. He has a letter from Reed Mulkey about a shuttle he was on, but Reed has passed and it seems the letter is not proof as it "has no seal" Could anyone help Dianna? Her e mail is direpeta(at)att.net. Thanks Bob I was not able to copy and paste Reed's letter, too high tech for me so I am going to try to attach a PDF file. IMG_0001.pdf Like this

Anyone have experience with VA reducing the benefit for Prostate Cancer (Agent Orange) after surgery that resulted in collapsed lung and total disability? I know the review is to determine if the reason for the rating (Cancer) has been eliminated which it has so I guess we must request benefits based on the disability resulting from the complications of the surgery? Thanks in advance… Looking at 38 CFR 4.16 - Total disability ratings for compensation based on unemployability of the individual.

I am preparing a Disability Claim to submit to the VA and came across this Site. After reading almost all of the posts I am hoping this may be a way to locate others who served with me at Pope Air Force Base between 1975 and 1986. I remember several names but have not been able to locate anyone yet. I arrived at Pope in the summer of 1975 as an AIC and left in March 1986 as a TSGT. My name is Steve (Andy) Anderson. I was part of the maintenance team that left the C-130s at Rheinmein AB in 1977. I participated in 13 back-to-back rotations to Mildenhall England along with numerous other temporary duty assignments. I also participated in Operation Urgent Fury know…

Hi, I am a 2 enlistment reservist out of Niagara and served as a mechanic and loadmaster on C 130 A's and E's. I am disabled and cannot work, receiving SSD. I have gone to the VA to request assistance several time but only to be turned away. They treat me like my service didn't count for anything...I met today with a VVA service rep who was helpful but doubtful if I would receive any help. My diabetes came on me in the time between my enlistment and was not discovered by USAF at any physical. I was set to go to Flt engineer school but was denied as I was 2 pounds over weight. I requested a medical examination but was denied. My diabetes is very sever with little or n…

Need help trying to find anyone who knew Larry E. Voss who was with the 374th Field Maintenance SQ PACAF. He was a Air Frame Repairman who patched bullet holes on the C130 and F102s in Tan Son Nhut for approximately 29 days in the summer of 1969. It is not on his DD214 and he received all his records and there is nothing on them. He has been battling with this for about 10 years now and needs help. He has severe diabetes among other health issues. If you need more information or can give any help please let me know. Thank you for your help, and your service. John Eckstein

I have had a hearing appeal filed since December of 2014. Back in the spring I got a letter inviting me to move my appeal out of the black hole to the RAMP program. With some hesitation I returned the form and moved into RAMP. It did speed some things up. On August 6th I got a notification that I was being reviewed. They sent me to a civilian Audiologist for a second opinion. Something told me to grab a few documents. I took my entry flight physical test with perfect 19 year old hearing and my last flight physical right before I got out. The last hearing test showed a large drop in my hearing. I also brought information of an explosion on board that killed 3 Cambodians an…

Here is my VA saga. I was awarded a 40% disability for II diabetes and complications in 2006. Around 2008-09 I started noticing pain in my legs that I assumed were arthritis. In 2010 I was in San Antonio for a PLA - whatever they call it - and ran into Bob Antoline, who I knew from Naha. Bob has II diabetes and is having major leg problems. I realized that my pain was probably related to my diabetes so I filed a claim. Later that year I experienced severe pain and decided to go to the VA for medical treatment. Previously, I had been going outside the VA because I was still flying and had take FAA-approved medications. After I went to the VA, I filed for hearing loss and g…

http://www.military.com/daily-news/2015/06/18/vas-new-rules-on-agent-orange-reject-most-previously-filed.html?comp=7000023317843&rank=1 Jun 18, 2015 | by Bryant Jordan New rules posted to the federal register on Thursday make it possible for American service members exposed to Agent Orange years after the Vietnam War to be awarded compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs for related health problems. But it is unlikely that many of the now-eligible, dioxin-sickened veterans who previously applied for compensation will have an active date-of-claim any earlier than tomorrow -- June 19, 2015 -- when the rule change takes effect. "The effective date will genera…
