  1. I give up trying to figure out what is going on in DC.....
  2. We had a crew stop in there not too long ago. They do have a Ramstein tail that will be converted for use as an Aeromed Trainer. I don't know the tail number.
  3. Nice shot. Good lighting!
  4. I think Ralph (Sparky's crew chief) said they got $14 million in parts out of her. The good outer wing went to 207 and the tail (I think) went to 208. I know the bulkhead at 245 and the dual rails ended up in 1057. The bulkhead was redone as Ralph's tribute to 211. I'm not sure why the dual rails were moved. I never did ask what happened to the fully inflated main wheel and tire that ended up in the cargo compartment. Strangest thing I've ever seen....
  5. Yep. I remember that day. I wanted to watch, but it was not a pleasant thing to witness. They cut her apart like a Thanksgiving turkey. Last I saw of it, the cockpit was laying on the ground, nose up. I'm pretty sure it was cut up, dumpstered and shipped off to a certified dump facility. (I wasn't aware there was such a thing.) I heard a rumor (so take it with a grain of salt) that some of it ended up in a non-certified dump and the contractor got in some deep kimchi over it.
  6. You might have some luck contacting the Air Force Museum. http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/ I think they have a large collection of manuals.
  7. I can't comment too much because I really don't know. But I think 94-8152 would've originally belonged to the Flying Jennies at Keesler. Does that make more sense?
  8. I'd have to double check, but I think I've got time on this airplane. I went through instructor school a few years back and remember this tail. I was hoping to get on 1784, but it didn't happen. She flew like a champ as I recall.
  9. I've heard of Loads jumping with the troops as a wink, wink, nod, nod thing. I tend to believe that more than guys actually fighting. But who knows how true any of it really is....
  10. For those that have M$ Flight Simulator, there's a company called Captain Sim that put out a model of one.
  11. I've heard where the winch itself had a perpensity to come off the wall during the retrieval process. That was temporarily solved by (I think) routing a piece of 1,000 lb. so that it wouldn't come off the wall. A perminent fix was to better secure it to 245 and add a slip clutch.
  12. I read something to the effect that this airplane had been modded with 727 windows. Does anyone know anything about such a thing?
  13. I don't think it's the full video, but a neat watch just the same.
  14. Yes. It was down at Tactics School. I wasn't there but have heard several versions of the story from people that were. I think they ended up finding the door, patching it up a little and put it back on.
  15. I'm hoping a happy compromise can be made on the defense budget. Aircraft procurement needs to be top priority.
  16. I was pretty disappointed to hear she (at the time) wasn't going to be a slick anymore. I went with a CRW crew to Manas back in the day and she ran like a champ. That is until #4 crapped out on takeoff from Salerno. We brought an MRT team, engine and new brake in to fix her.

I've heard that there was a Herk used in this operation to drop the snipers. Any truth to this?
  18. It\'s funny how the story of the Columbian ditching gets all twisted. I guess if this accident taught us nothing else, at least we know that a ditched Herk will float under the right conditions, proving it\'s survivability.
  19. My first thought on seeing a pic of the A400M was that of a C-17 with J-model props and engines. Just that image makes me think it\'s going to be doggy and not have as good of performance numbers as either the C-17 (heavy lift) or C-130 (short strips, etc.) Time will tell....
  20. I send the sentiment on the lower profile radome. It looks so much cooler than the current production radome.
  21. Glad to hear about the F-4. That\'s the reason I became interested in flying in the first place. The local Guard unit had F-4Ds and man, something about them...
  22. I\'ve forgotten more of the story that I remember, but from what I understand, the DE ANG did some of that testing in the 1970\'s. It seems that it was a project contracted to a local company. Any further info?
  23. I\'m hoping that somehow this will turn positive for Boeing. By that, I mean change the corporate mentality that has caused them to lose two huge contracts in recent memory (KC-X and JSF).
  24. We (Delaware) got a real shot in the arm by picking up as many of the AFRC C-130 people as we could (and were willing) to come down. The base itself is still open, although the 913th closed a year ago.
