  1. You haven't found out yet??? My current student is a former USMC FE, he thinks they're the same also.
  2. 282 rings a bell...a Talon 2 went full nose down trim on a crew crossing the gulf of mx southbound. Buddy of mine was the FE...not sure if he remembers the tail #......Charlie, you readin this?
  3. Geez, that's the only one I know about. It's the one that planted the AMP seed. It said the AF was neglecting the fleet, more or less.
  4. GACGuy is right, that is no NLG pin.
  5. I can certainly agree with the upgrades helping out alot, but don't think the performance will approach the J...at least, not very closely.
  6. Sure, after I've been trying for over 4 yrs....they'd come along & make it easy!
  7. That's just happened, right? Does the 50th still "own" theirs, or did they transfer to the ARC (Det 1)? AMC is pretty much out of the H-model business already. Only PACAF remains along with the ARC, ANG & AFSOC.
  8. My first assignment was Germany...was at Hahn AB for 2 years, then spent the rest of my career trying (unsuccessfully) to get back to Europe. Good choice!
  9. Those are controls for the radar, just like the Nav has on the legacy H now. There's still good hope for AMP...so I've heard just today.
  10. Yeah, but that's a J...doesn't count!

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say. You can cheapen the thing up, but you'll lose the Mil specs that are required here. The foreign air forces don't need/want that stuff, so when you hear it can be done cheaper, just remember that little tid bit.

    Bob, 86-1395 (not a 169-something like I thought) 91-1652

No Bob, although I haven't had a chance to look them up, I know the ARANG bird is one of the 86-169_ series....wanting to say its 1693. I'll try to get that info for you later on today.

Yes, there are a total of 5. One belonged to St Joe, the other to LRANG. BTW, technically, the program isn't scrapped, it's on hold to see if the USAF can justify scrapping it for something that will be less capable, cost more and take longer to implement. There's wording in the defense budget that was passed by the Senate on this. I don't recall the tail numbers of those other two, but I'll get them...unless someone else here knows off the top of their head.
  15. The 16th is a C-17 squadron, the 62nd is in the 314th AW. The 53rd tail flash is black. We lost the 16th back in the early 90's, and was given an old C-141 squadron (53rd) as it's replacement. The way I heard, the C-17s already had the 15th & 17th squadrons, and wanted (and got) the 16th to make them sequential.
  16. What if you've vowed to never waste time on FB?? :0)
  17. Flew the first series of tests for this system....I think everyone who has any experience with the old 4-blade would greatly appreciate this new prop in every aspect from maintenance to flying.

    C-130 E

Yeah, before my time, but you had the old buttons that had solenoids holding them engaged....had to pull them out if they didn't pop out on their own by....
  19. There's somethin pretty cool about a 250' AGL/240kt drop after you've been in slicks....dang, I shoulda gone to AFSOC!
  20. If you could talk the powers that be into it, I'd pop right out retirement to fly this thing!
  21. Didn't the Norwegians buy the TAWs for their Js?
  22. Wouldn't it be fitting that the last E model sent to the boneyard would be the 1st one built? I hope someone at the decision-making level is way ahead of me on that.
  23. What is FMS......Flight Management System. This is what any semi-modern large aircraft has....much more useful than SCNS or CANS.
  24. Yeah, and come to the table with about 50 mil more!
  25. It's right around FS 655 on the left side behind the insulation...maybe WL 174-ish. This would be aft of the left main gear well.
