Does anyone know the names of the individuals in the picture of the Desert One Crew Republic in front of 62-1809? I would like to know the name of the black guy in the first row, third from the left. I believe he was a loadmaster we flew with out of CCK in 1971-72. Thanks.

Does anyone remember the rocket attack on Herky Hill in Jan. of 1970.The rocket hit the chow hall but Charlie was aiming at the yellow parachute we put up on our "deck". The AP's came and tore it down. There were some injured in the chow hall. If anyone can remember the date it would help. Thanks JP

As the title says--did any of you Ubon guys happen to save a green card from downtown? If you were there, you will know what I mean!! Unless of course you never left base--then you might not know what I am talking about!! I know I have one I saved as a souvenir but I can't find it right now! Of course I found the one I've got ! Either that or someone gave it to me!!! Ken

I am writing an analysis PPT for an Embry-Riddle AU Accident Investigation Course relating to accidents caused by Human Factors at airshows. I was at this particular airshow on that fateful day acting as a Combat Controller talking with range control during the airshow. This aircraft crashed right in front of me performing a LAPES in lane #1 at Sicily EZ. I remember that their were complaints from the nav from an earlier practice run the day prior about the pilot hotdogging. The original Nav asked to not fly the day of the incident and he was replaced by another Nav who was killed. The Co-pilot and FE survived. I was wondering if anybody on this forum remembers this …

I reckon this is the place for this question. If not, Casey, just put it where it belongs. Anyway, way back in 1970, I graduated tech school with a guy named Stoddard, who I think, went to Rescue Herks , at Pease AFB, NH. He was from new hampshire to begin with. Am I correct in the base and so on??? Is it still active???? I am gonna be up in that area in a few months and would like to look him up, if he is still in that area. Anything anybody can tell me would be appreciated. thanks giz

Every once in awhile this squadron, the 37th TAS, at Langley is mentioned and always presented in a good light. In Jan. of 1967 I rotated back to Langley for the last 7 months of my enlistment (I hated it there), and for some reason I assumed that it was the 37th that I was assigned to. However after recieving a packet of personel files I requested from the USAF I see I was assigned to the 38th TCS, Langley. Could some one shed a little light on this matter? Was there two different C-130 squadrons at Langley in that time frame? If there was two, or more C-130 squadrons at Langley in 1967 was there a huge difference in the leadership, moral, etc.? Without going into a lot …

Anybody out there remember the PLADS system (Parachute Low Altitude Delivery System) for C-130's? Anybody fly any missions using it or was involved in testing it? Oh yea and the scuttlebutt about using it to get troops out the back end in a capsule and they used live bears for the tests. Bill

I have recently become the DCC of 282 and my ACC's and I are looking to name the aircraft. One of the things we had in mind was to give the aircraft it's original name. We have done a lot of research and are unable to find anything about the original name of the aircraft. I was wondering and hoping that somebody on here might be able to help us find this information. Also, if anybody has any pictures of old nose art displayed on 282 it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hey, I was just channel surfing while recovering from rotator cuff surgery and stopped to watch Shockwave on the History Channel. This episode had about a 10-15 minute segment on Credible Sport. Had some nice video clips of takeoffs and of course the crash as well as computer generated graphics. This is episode #30 and will be rerun at 0100 CST.

I was watching the Military channel the other night when a program came on about the Mayaguez ship that was captured and the crew held hostage. What I would like to know is which of you flew the Herk that dropped the BLU-82 which gave the troops on the ground a breather from the intense attacks. whoever you are thanks for helping those fellow warriors. Many of them came home because of that bomb drop. Take care. wil

That was a neat dis-cussin on the rocket attack on Herky Hill a couple of posts ago and I sure enjoyed it! I went to CRB on google earth and saw a lot of what I thought I remembered. There are all kinds of markers by the VN and ruskies but only one marker by a GI and it was the 22nd Replacement Batt. If someone with a still functioning brain could go there on google earth and mark the sites I know a lot of us would get a kick out of seeing it. Places such as the C-130 revetments, C-7 parking, Aerial port building, maint buildings and tire shop near the flightline, also the sharp curve at the 22nd Replacement Batt at the bottom of Herky Hill seems to have changed.(I was th…

Saw an interesting list of Navy MATS Herks yesterday. On the West Coast at Moffett the Navy MATS units were VR-7 and 22, Flying squadrons, and VR-8 which owned the aircraft and did the maintenance but did not fly. In 1966 when MAC came in into being, Navy MATS went away. By 1967, all the Navy C-130E's were returned to the USAF. Moffett had 36 E's. They lost 63-7785 in 1966 so they returned 35 aircraft. 62-1850 63-7782,783,786,787,789,790,791,792,793,807,808,809,810,811,812,813,814,815,836,845,849,850,851,852,853,854,855, 856,862,870,871 64-0503,569,570 We got 26 at Langley Sewart got 3 64-0503,569,570 Dyess got 4 7811, 7812, 7813, 7852 Pope got 2 7836,and 7856…

OK, it's time for my occassional request for photos of 64-0550 after it ran off the runway at NAS Naples, Italy back in the late 1970's/early 1980's. I don't think I've requested them on this "new" board and since there are a lot of new faces here (as compared to the old web site), I figured I'd try again. I know there are some photos out there as I saw them after they moved the airplane from the end of the runway to the Navy ramp. It sat there for a long time before being repaired. All I can remember is that the FE was TSgt Billy Legg & the copilot was 1Lt Bill Beale. He was making the landing and came in extremely fast. They went around, I think, & came in…

Hey all, I am looking for info on the cause of the gear to collapse on rollout of a Minnesota ANG C-130H on 29 April 2004. Please send any information you have at [email protected] We are doing a reliability study on the MLG ballscrew and we are having a hard time getting specific information on this incident. Thanks in advance for your inputs! Sonny Johnston

I was looking at some pics today on the web and came across some of the test bed bird that was at Dobbins in the 80s--N130X--in one of the pictures there is a C-130 parked next to it and it seems to have the HF antenna that is presently on the J models. My eyes may be deceiving me but I didn\'t think that this was something that was around in 1985. Just curious. Oh and lastly I did not take the picture, the good man\'s name is posted on the bottom left. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Lockheed/Lockheed%20L-100-20/HTTB%20Hercules%20(L-382E)/0199863/L/&width=1024&height=659&sok=&photo_nr=3&prev_id=0764729&next_id=NEXTID

This summer I'm writing about my experiences flying C-130's in Vietnam and Thailand in 1970 and 1971. Today I wrote about max effort landings at Pope and how Jane Fonda was arrested at nearby Ft. Bragg. Much more to follow. See http://vietnamairlift.com/popeflying.html Alan
