Don't ask me where these came form, but they just popped into my head today. #1. anybody remember hearin' of a Herk, I think maybe a "B", but ain't certain, somewhere in SEA, Philippines perhaps, that had a fuel tank explosion caused, later investigation stated, by some bacteria or whatever gettin' I the tank? #2. I recall hearing about a piece of skin, possibly off a wing, that someone drew a circle in lead pencil on and corrosion caused it to disintegrate and fall out. Now I know I was juiced up yesterday with Fenegrin for an EGD, but I surely didn't dream this did I" load clear ( I think) Giz

I am compiling data and stats and some personal stories if possible about the KC-130F model ser. 149808 for a historic brief sheet to present to the Marine Corps museum that will accompany a 6' wing span model of the aircraft that a fellow Marine and myself restored. The info gathered will aid in the concideration of the acceptance of the model as an offical donation to the museum.

C-130 Hercules: Air Force's 'old reliable' airlifter still on the front lines Posted 12/22/2010 by Master Sgt. Scott T. Sturkol Air Mobility Command Public Affairs 12/22/2010 - SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Pick any day for airlift operations in Afghanistan and there's a high probability you'll see a C-130 Hercules taking off from a forward operating base filled with cargo and troops. You also might see a C-130 cruising between Afghan mountain peaks on an airdrop mission directly supplying the "beans and bullets" to troops on the ground. Since 1956, it's been operations like those for Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan where the C-130 has proved it…

This post is another one started while laying in bed thinking about my life in the USAF and my time on the Hercules. Do you guys at Naha remember the civilian company that had a hangar right next to or near our squadron areas (at least near the 35th) ? The guys that worked there had Dyna Electron on their coveralls and they were doing some kind of TCTO an our A-Models I think! The company was based in Kansas I think, as I know a guy that was working for them at that time! I don't see him anymore, but he was one of my old gun shop customers that I got to know quite well! I guess I never did ask him what they were working on there or if I did I can't remember now!! Do a…

To answer a question in another AF site, did we ever deploy AC-130s over North Vietnam? Just trying to get a general idea of the ACs activities, loses, etc. Thanks.

I came across this website (photobucket.com) and found some pics of a C-130 crash. It looks like hill and desert terrain. The N number is N135FF with a large 82 on the tail. I cannot make out the script on the forward pilots side of the acft. I hope some one can help with information. I would like to know the model of the acft, year, company name, date and details of the crash, location, etc, survivors or not and so on.

Hope the photo attached.... Anyway, have a look at this photo. The gentlemen in front is my uncle, Charlie Agar. If you knew him, please pass ANY INFO. He passed away 23 Sept 08, never got a chance to catch up with him and hear his stories, crew chief tales etc. I believe this was a Blind Bat plane, or maybe one of the early Gunships (can't see the back)???? Assuming the tail number is 0647....can't find anything on it. Again if you know ANYTHING about that plane, post it up. I'd love to see what you got, anything at all. Anybody got anything?? Thanks, topbolts

I was told that this load was the computers for the army payroll in Korea. I am not quite sure of that, but we did deliver it to Osan. It took a lot of jockeying to get that thing loaded! I think that was the trip to Cubi Pt. that the local (civilian) fuel-truck driver came out with JP-5 and I wouldn't use it until somebody came along and told me that it was okay to use!

I identified about 30 Vietnam airfields and bases that I flew into in 1970 and 1971. Some have been completely obliterated, some are disappearing, and others are relatively unchanged. See http://vietnamairlift.com/googlemaps.html Enjoy, Alan

Does anyone know the names of the special paint used on early Combat Talons? I don\'t think that there would be a FS number for them. This is for Mark S who will be releasing a decal sheet of various Combat Talons. 1. He wants to know if there is a FS number 2. He list the colors as black and tan. 3. He mentions a short dash 7 and a long dash 15 engines. Someone said that one color was SAC Bomber Tan, although it looked green. The tan on B-52s was a reddish brown and not like the green on Combat Talons. Mark has also gotten information that the dash 7 and dash 15 engines were of different length. I think he is refering to someone who has lengthened the engines to th…

A friend and I were talking the other day about the Mildenhall and Rhein Main rotes and a question came up -- I know the call signs were "Old" and "Ask" but which one was for which rote? Which brings up another question -- were those call signs ever used after that for any other operations or exercises? I did a lot of rotes to both places both as a crew chief and an FE. Even did one to Evereaux back in the mid-1960's. Anyone remember that call sign? Thanks, Don R.

I have posted these before, but they have long since disappeared and now that there are a lot of new members on the forum, especially old Naha guys, I thought I would post them again with hopes you will find yourself or somebody you recognize in them!! These pics were taken in November 1968 ( I'm pretty sure!!). If you were in the 35th during that time you should recognize Msgt. Andy Haskell and Msgt. Galloway. (Flight Chief & 1st. Sgt.) !! I do know a lot of the names and there are some I can't remember--maybe we can help each other out and identify them all. Thanks for your help, Ken Carlson I have some more but will quit while I am ahead.

Anybody out there know where to find a Vietnam low-altitude approach book--especially approaches for Quang Tri? It could help locate an MIA.

We just delivered 63-7848 to AMARG. Afterwards, we received a pretty cool tour of the boneyard. There is what appears to be a MC-130E with Idaho ANG markings on it. Does anyone have any info? Sorry, no tail number.

I was just going over an old thread, C-130 Crash at Taiwan 1965, and ran across some information that is a bit startling!. That thread mentions specifics on 4 or 5 C-130 crashes. The crew chief on the first crash listed, 64-0536, an A1C Bosnick was an aquaintance of mine. I didn't know 'til 10 minutes ago that he died in the crash of his aircraft. Rather sobering. Another on that list is 63-7878. The assistant crew chief for that aircraft (he was not with the plane on that flight) was Jim Watts, a personal friend. Jim was absolutely horrified over the loss of that plane. I don't know if he ever got over that loss. Not to mention the fact that that aircraft was the sister …

Saw this on u tube today. It is a museum in Viet Nam. It is an unused BLU-82 (duhh, really?). For all you guys involved with that program...including the maint. and munitions guys, I thought this might bring back some memories. Included are a few pics and one of my M-121,10,000 lb bomb fuse well plug, from a bomb that was dropped from my C-130B outta Clark. 10,000 lb bombs were dropped from the C-130B till they were used up and replaced with the 15,000 lb bomb, the BLU-82. These were used to create helo landing zones and were sometime actually dropped on old Charlie's head. If any of you on this board were involved with this mission, chime in. I know Sam McGowan dropped se…

On this day in 1970 we lost a running buddy. Frank Wilson was a loadmaster in 776th. Hit a mountain departing Taipei. Frank was part of our posse. Fun guy and everybody loved Frank.

Anyone here on the board serve at Clark with a navigator names William Simon III ? I am guessing during the 70's but possibly earlier... I recently came into possession of one of his flight suits and hoping to learn a little more about him and his time in the C-130 at Clark.
