Hey guys, I need some help here. My herk was belly landed in late 1972 or maybe 1973 in Tainan Taiwan. I have tried to find some kind of incident report with no luck at all. Can anyone tell me where I can find such report? Tail number was 64-0497. Thanx

Hello to everyone on this board, I'm a french aviation enthusiast and I'm currently writing an article on USAF psy ops during the Vietnam War. My sources (various CHECO reports and the book "Praetorian STARShip" by Jerry Thigpen) indicate me that C-130 were used to drop leaflets over Laos and North Vietnam, especially "Blind Bat" aircrafts, but also "Combat Spear" and 15th/90th SOS Hercules. I'm looking for pictures of these Hercules; I've saw some good "Blind Bat" ones on this board, but the catch is that I need pictures fit to print, that is at least 8 inches wide in 300 dpi. I'm also looking for interior pictures showing leaflets boxes/pallets arrangement inside…

For Bab Daley (and others who may be interested): I\'m hosting a reunion of the 7405th & 7580th Operations Squadrons (7575th Ops Gp) in Dayton from 2-4 May 2008. I\'m trying to determine if there is a history of the 3 Hercs (62-1819, 1822 & 1828) that were assigned to the 05th from the time they converted till the closing of the squadron. I was able to get some of the pictures from your collection, but am not aware if a \"history\" of each Herc exists. Any assistance would be appreciated. If anyone would like to attend the reunion, please send me an e-mail at: [email protected] Thanks Much Bob- Mike Hushion

Does anyone know the names of the special paint used on early Combat Talons? I don\'t think that there would be a FS number for them. This is for Mark S who will be releasing a decal sheet of various Combat Talons. 1. He wants to know if there is a FS number 2. He list the colors as black and tan. 3. He mentions a short dash 7 and a long dash 15 engines. Someone said that one color was SAC Bomber Tan, although it looked green. The tan on B-52s was a reddish brown and not like the green on Combat Talons. Mark has also gotten information that the dash 7 and dash 15 engines were of different length. I think he is refering to someone who has lengthened the engines to th…

Does anyone remember the rocket attack on Herky Hill in Jan. of 1970.The rocket hit the chow hall but Charlie was aiming at the yellow parachute we put up on our "deck". The AP's came and tore it down. There were some injured in the chow hall. If anyone can remember the date it would help. Thanks JP

http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123268312 I have to say that I am very proud to have flown on this aircraft over the years. I have a ton of good memories of this aircraft at home station and on the road. She is going to her well deserved final resting place at the museum. We found out about the aircraft's history about 3 years ago. After a few months of work and research, we were able to convice the leadership here that the aircraft was deserving of some nose art. We were able to design and apply that nose art before we gave the airplane to the active duty as we converted to the H model. As of today, the airplane still has the nose art on i…

Ken, Here's one for you. Spent two days on a Swift Boat out of CRB with a friend from the 35th (his cousin was on the Swift Boat). Was only supposed to be gone for a couple of hours. My plane (56-0489) rotated back to the rock without me. AP's took me into custody and made sure I was on the next flight to Naha. Had some 'splaining to do to the line chief (MSgt. Tanner) and the squadron commander. Sgt. Tanner saved my ass. Sonny

On a humorous note, I would like to hear about some of the in-flight antic's that we have all pulled form time to time in our illustrious career's. To start the thread, I'll give you all a good one. 1979 w/ the 17TAS, we had a Instr. Nav that loved his cigar's, and with sure fired cockiness he smoked those things in flight. A real pr--k in every sense. Well, the AC got one of his Dutch Master's from his satchel, and creatively unpacked tobacco, inserted a firecracker, and then repacked the stogie. He placed it back in the pack so it was readily available inserted slightly out of the pack. As you all can well imagine, he was puffing away a few hours later and BANG! …

Just found a pic of my old bird I crewed , 851 (PB) at Pope during 1968-69. Does anyone know how it got it's nose smashed? Gallery pic # cn 3815J. Looks like it was attached to the Cal. Guard. Neat to see they used it as a MAFF bird. Thanks Casey and Bob...and all you fellow members who sent the pics in. Best collection I've ever seen. Bill

C-130 Hercules: Air Force's 'old reliable' airlifter still on the front lines Posted 12/22/2010 by Master Sgt. Scott T. Sturkol Air Mobility Command Public Affairs 12/22/2010 - SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Pick any day for airlift operations in Afghanistan and there's a high probability you'll see a C-130 Hercules taking off from a forward operating base filled with cargo and troops. You also might see a C-130 cruising between Afghan mountain peaks on an airdrop mission directly supplying the "beans and bullets" to troops on the ground. Since 1956, it's been operations like those for Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan where the C-130 has proved it…

A 44-year-old C-130 tactical airlifter that received a Purple Heart during the Vietnam War and has been operating in Southwest Asia has flown its last combat mission. Capt. Christopher Moore reports that the veteran Hercules, No. 63-7865, accumulated more than 29,500 flying hours over its service. It now goes back to Ramstein AB, Germany, its current assignment, before making the trip to the Boneyard at the Davis-Monthan Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center.

I got a private message asking about JFK's casket, and a rumor that he was buried at sea. As I understand it, the casket that his body was flown from Dallas to Andrews in was, in fact, dropped into the Atlantic from a C-130B from Langley. However, he was buried at Arlington in another casket that Jackie picked out.

I have some questions about the radar on the AC-130A's. What type radar was on the AC-130A aircraft was it in fact APN-59? And does anyone have the dates that the APN-59 type radome were added to the 53 and 54 year aircraft. I think it was at mod to AC-130A's. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Hello everyone, Let me introduce myself my name is justin nichols and my grandfather i believe he rode and maintained a C-130. Years ago on a telephone converstion he told me and showed me a site where his plane was being restored for display...somewhere. After some talking he had a photo (to which I have a copy of) of one of there trips where he is standing shaking hands with i think either a vietnamse boy or korean boy. Either way he wasnt sure if he was able to make the trip to donate the photo, because they really would have liked to have it....well I promised him when i got old enough to drive i would pick him up and take him there to do it. ...i never got …

Just thought I would share a little information. I am currently going through school here at LR for FE retraining and I've had the pleasure of having Mr. Sam McGoldrick as our instructor. He is getting ready to retire at the age of 71 and next week is his last of work. He told us a story today about a plane he was on that crashed in Kadena when #4 engine throttle cable broke and sent the engine to full power. The plane was tore all to hell and was deemed unrepairable (from what I've been told). The way he told the story was pretty amazing that no one was killed. The plane sounded like it was pretty well spent after all it went through. Anyway, I just thought if a…
