My husband Benjamin Sager was in the Air Force and flew with Operation Blind Bat during Vietnam (Based out of Naha) during 1966-1969 and I’m looking for information, please. He is ill and is fighting the VA as they say there is not “evidence of boots on the ground†although all his military records state so. He was on extended TDY at Ubon RTAFB, Thailand as Crew Chief during 7 July 67 to 3 May 68. His aircraft number was 56-0523. George A. Ingram, TSgt, Crew Chief, Delbert L. I'm more of a Herk admirer than a former crewmember, but I was reading recently about the dedication of the AC-130H at Cannon AFB's Heritage park. As part of the aircraft's history, it mentioned Operation Blinking Light and Bield Kirk over El Salvador. I vaguely remember the Blinking Light mission appearing on daily reconnaissance mission summaries while I was in the Air Force over 25 years ago, but wasn't sure what they entailed. Can anyone please provide more information on these missions? Thanks.

As long as I have been a member of this forum, I don't remember any mention of the war in Bosnia. My question is, did any C-130's take part in the conflict? If so, I think it would be very interesting to hear some of your stories about what part you guys played. Also, if any of you have any pictures of your trips in and out and especially any base or off-base pictures would be great!! Also, was there any medal or commendation made for your participation? I would find it hard to believe that the mighty Herk wasn't involved! I remember watching the news when it looked like the first plane into Baghdad was a C-130!!! I found this while going through some of my LM stuff. It's a family tree of all the L382 versions up to 1986, including some serial numbers and differentiating details. Probably nothing new here, but I thought it might be of interest to the resident historians here. Good summary of the L382 lineage through the H model on one page. It's a copy of a copy of a copy and I'm not sure of the original source. There are no LM markings, but the bottom right corner says "PAGAN 11-20-86"

Gentlemen, is there a thread where one can ask what happened to an aircraft only by a very near loss? In explanation, I was once sideways, at high speed in I think an A Model up at Da Lat. All was saved by a Stan Eval Instructor pilot that really knew his stuff. Rumor was it was flown all the way back to Lockeed to check the superstructure. I'm not joking, honest. Sarg

There's a lot of confusion about C-130 units that flew in SEA because of the many unit redesignations that took place. Here is a run-down (this only applies to troop carrier/tactical airlift.): 1958-1965 - There were four C-130A squadrons assigned to PACAF, with the fourth arriving in 1963. The 815th was at Tachikawa while the 21st and 817th were at Naha and were joined by the 35th. They were supplemented by TAC rotational squadrons. 1966-1969 - In December 1966 eight TAC squadrons were transferred to PACAF along with two wings. Hi, I am looking for information about the early use of C-130's for SAR at Clark AB ie before the C-130s were adopted as the standard and before May of 1965. My husband, Paul Graves, flew SAR day trips over the Tonkin Gulf as a volunteer searcher with his friend Harry Ridge (at least) beginning in March of 65 aboard a C-130. They flew the gulf till mid day, landed in Da Nang, flew back out over the gulf and then back to Clark. Harry is now gone and so are all of his pictures. We need some verification as we are set to file an appeal after March 9th. The 31st ARS never submitted a history, Paul may have even flown for Det 5, and there is very little info available. I …

C-130A 50041 c/n [cn]3068[/cn] visited one of the Royal Air Force bases in Singapore, RAF Changi (now Singapore Airport) in January 1963. It was accompanying a US Navy WV-2Q 135749 which at the time was carrying a tailcode of 'KR2'. This 'Willie Victor' was later shot down whilst serving with VQ-1 in 1969 by North Korean Mig-17's as it was carrying out a patrol along the North Korean coast. The 31 crew all perished. The C-130A 50041 at the time looked like a C-130B-II version, although I see your records still show it as a standard C-130A. Help, What happened to C-130A 56-0502? From 3 different sources I have found 3 different stories. 1st is from Lars Olausson’ s book which say it Crashed on take-off from Chu Lai, South Vietnam on 8 Dec 1965. Then I have a source that say it Crash landed in bad weather at An Khe, South Vietnam on 8 Dec 1965 and last one I have says it was shot down near An Khe, South Vietnam. So does any one know for sure just what just did happened to this aircraft? Thanks in advance for any and all help.
