USAF Colonel, (Ret) Jerry Figgins passed away of cancer they found back in June. Colonel Figgins was the 61st TAS Commander, 1979-1980 and a Lockheed Martin Instructor for many years after his Air Force retirement. The viewing/visitation is Saturday 1000-1100 at Powell Funeral Home, West Beebe Capps Blvd., Searcy, Arkansas. Funeral services at 1100 at the Funeral Home. His request was that instead of flowers, that we consider the less fortunate children that Jerry always tried to help. The Searcy Children's home was his favorite charity and so he wanted us to care by donating to this children's home.

Sad news from the HB inbox via Maurice Alford. Our daughter Laura called him and talked to him a bit Saturday night...he was sitting up in bed...probably about 8 PM. One of the Brainerd cousins (Mike, Pat's nephew) was with him until 9 PM. Somewhere in this time period, he called son Andy and left him a message, "Hey, Meathead! I love you." He told his lady friend Kay to go on home and take care of Curly (his dog). Then sometime about 9:30 he had a relaspe/sinking spell. Things just stopped....they gave him 2 shocks and tried CPR, but he never came back. Laura and her brother Andy are just heartbroken because it was rather unexpected since he seemed to ha…

He lost his battle with cancer on January 14 2013 and went to fly that bird in the sky. He served his country with honor and devotion for 26 years in the United States Air Force,a person that everyone respected and depended upon, with a sense of humor and a warm smile that was with him at the end. He was the father to six children and 18 grandchildren. He was a great friend and coworker to many. He will be greatly missed by all.

No one seems to have mentioned it yet but Ralph Krach, who was once active on the old C-130 forum, passed away back in July. Here is his obituary. http://www.riemannfamily.com/obituaries/Ralph-Krach/ My first encounter with Ralph was in the fall of 1965 and TDY to Mactan and flying the new Bangkok Shuttle. Early one evening around sundown we went into Taklhi, Thailand with a load of hazardous cargo and were parked on the hazardous cargo ramp. The aerial port ramp tramp told me there was going to be a delay for our outbound load because of a high priority mission. A few minutes later, an unmarked C-130A pulled in and parked beside us next to an Air Force flatbed loaded wi…

I'm sorry I didn't post this when it happened on September 1st, 2011, but I've been off the board for awhile. I am finally retired from the Air Force! By finally, I mean I took the long road. I started in the Army back in 83, got out after Desert Storm, went Army Guard, then Air Guard, then back on active duty in the Air Force. I made MSgt in '09, and waited until my commitment was up after transferring my GI Bill to Son #1. (Whew! Wears me out just typing it!) Anyway, my last four years and change was as a Herk FE at Dyess in the 40th. All of the FEs are in the 39th or on to new aircraft by now I hear, however. I can consider myself one of the last FEs in that…
