rje71
Does anyone here by chance have any pictures of any Party Suits worn by C-130 crews during the SEA and Vietnam era ? Probably a long shot but thought I would give a try .. Thank\'s in advance .. RJ

TOLD BAG
OMG! Is that Hamm\'s beer those crew\'s are drinking? Yuk! I used to drink that stuff in college when I couldn\'t afford Budweiser. Old Milwaukee was referred to as \"Survival Brew\". Kurt
Guest
I opened up a Falstaff once while in RVN, and that beer was so rotten, it had curds in it---lumps & stringy things. :S The funny part was, one of the other guys thought I was just wimping out, so he grabbed the can after I had set it down, and took a big gulp--then went running to the head to \"wash out his mouth\".
Guest cobra935o
It could be Hamms, but I bet it is probably one of the Thai brands, but I cant really make out any of the cans all that well. Nathan
Muff Millen
Looks like Hams to me. Hey Talon remember the cases of Schlutz in the rusty cans? That was real rot gut. Muff
Guest
I think you meant \"Schlitz\". The label was already brown, so a little rust was not so noticeable. Just so happened that Falstaff was my worst experience. A lot of that beer was shipped in the holds of rusty old freighters, and was sometimes transferred from one ship to another at some god-forsaken ports, taking months to deliver; and there was no attempt to keep the stuff cool along the way. Yep, rusty cans and rot gut beer was the norm....but, it seemed nice at the end of a long day to sit outside in the evenings with friends and a cold one, watching gunships work over the distant mountainside, watching the flare drops over the rice paddys, and listening to the artillery, & watching tracers in the hills from automatic weapons-----almost right there in your own back yard. Our group had party shirts, with crew-specific colors and logos--also made in Taichung city (Paul\'s Tailor shop) during TDY\'s for aircraft maintenance. bobdaley
I remember a load redirecting the destination of two cases of Carling Black Label from a pallet that must have sat on the ramp for a month at Danang. It was the worst stuff I ever tasted, and the only time I ever saw a 130 crew not finish \"free\" beer. I rember seeing it on the shelf of a liquor store later back in the States and could not believe anyone would buy it. Bob
stoney
What about the Miller that smelled like skunk you-know-what when you opened it with a church key!!!! But, you could go downtown Nha Trang and get cold Bud for 100P. Stoney
DC10FE
I wonder if some of the youngsters out there even know what a \"church key\" is; or a P-38? I agree with Bob, though -- that Carling Black Label had to be the worst. Don R.
mongo
What exactly qualifies you to be old??? I got a church key and P38 on my key ring that have been there for 30 years. Does that make me old? I hope not...
Sonny
I still carry my P-38 on my key ring. My grandkids marvel when I use it to open cans!!

EdMcG1
The 3 C130 Squadrons that were there when I was there (\'69-70) did. If I could print my slides and then learn how to post, I\'d share.

It has a thingy that you put slides on and it kind of does a reverse photocopy dealio. The scanner takes the slides and creates images out of them. I can teach you how to post. As long as words like \"dealio\" \"thingy\" and \"that chingadera\" are in your vocabulary, it should be a breeze.

airnav
Hey R.C., Post the crew pic where you are wearing the \"off duty\" Party Suit. It\'s the one with you decked out in the plaid trouser\'s! Kurt
SamMcGowan
I don\'t think party suits came out until late in the war. Nobody had them when I was at Naha in 66-67 or Clark in 69-70. Most of the pictures I\'ve seen were in Thailand around \'72.
Flysafe
I agree with Sam that the use of Party Suits came later. We didn\'t have them at Kung Kwan AB (CCK) in 65-66. I got my first one when I went to Gunships at Ubon.
Guest
The 15th SOS had party shirts at Nha Trang AB, RVN when I arrived in Nov \'69. The shirts were made at Paul\'s Tailor shop in Taichung (CCK).
