Nope, not basic training. Had 49 close friends an arms length away. Not Sewart, drove back to Tupelo with family.......Christmas Day 1970....I had rotated back From TSN to CCK a week earlier. Just before leaving The Merlin hotel all of my best friends had checked in over a few day period. Me and the engineer packed up and checked out and rotated back to CCK. Got back to an almost empty barracks. They rest of my posse was in BKK. After a couple of days I called the scheduler and begged for a shuttle back to TSN. Everybody but me was in Saigon seeing the CBC band then back to the roof top of the Merlin to party some more. No crews going in country fro a couple of days. He …

Guess there's a new movie coming out about the IAF raid. I was curious whether these IAF C-130s were -7 or 15 equipped. I know they were E-models but in doing some Google searches I had read something about newer engines. Unsure though. The raid happened in 76 so they "could" have re-engined some of their Hercs. Also I know some of these Hercs were VERY heavy. Am I remembering correctly that some may have exceeded 200k for takeoff?

Hey folks, My question is more for those of you who have been doing business with the Hercules overseas in Europe, Middle East and Africa and about the MRO segment of maintenance with OGMA in Portugal. I understand this company is very good in their capacity of performing intermediate and depot level functions, but I'm concerned with their historicals, notably any major backlogs, their production control methodology, etc. I'm picking up a project and one of the aircraft is with OGMA now. I cannot find anything on the internet with regards to OGMA's past performance other than the French Air Force dropped OGMA as their main support for their C-130H and went with SABEN…

I was just thinking about the remaining AD herk squadrons. Just a shell of what we have had. Yokota (1), Dyess (2), Little Rock (2) I consider the 62 as an RTU, but is AD, Elmendorf (1), and Ramstein (1). Not including Special Ops. 7 Worldwide. Downsizing and so forth. What a shame.

Just curious, and I know assignments are always in flux but what units and C-130 types are currently at Little Rock? I guess the 50th is gone? and the Arkansas ANG may finally have some "newer" airframes? I was never stationed there but was born there when it was a SAC base. I did get to train there later as a Flt Engineer. Monty

I have seen videos of the c130 and other planes taking off at what seems to be a very steep angle, It seems that it would get to/above stall angle. How does it keep going and not stall? Does it just generate enough thrust?

Few years back I read a book written by a c130 pilot. I got it from a British Council library so not sure if it is a UK book or a US book. Unfortunately I don't remember the name / cover details. Following are few parts I remember from that book. If anyone has read it and remembers the boo please share the name. Thanks in advance. *He mentions that he had issues with his eye sight but an officer called a favour which allowed him to fly. After he got his wings he sent part of it to that officer who helped him. *After a long time he saw his training aircraft (a Cessna as I remember) unexpectedly in an airfield *He and one of his friends owned small aircraft a…

Hi friends, Just wanted to get some clarification: what does "continue with take off" mean in the definition of CFL. Does it mean that you continue rotation and achieve V2/ VObs at 35 ft screen height

Since I have been keeping records, The 115AS CA NG and the 96AS AFRC From Minneapolis have had the longest accident free safety records. This year being 47 years without a class A accident. Just got this in, "I also forgot to mention that the 146AW accident free milestone came to an end with a class 1 accident, tail strike on C-130J 02-1463 at Taji last year. A newly acquired Navy pilot was the culprit. This incident ended the accident free milestone" I have not seen anything from the USAF about it. Bob BTW the new long time ANG unit will now be the 109AS also from Minneapolis with 46 years.
