2 images caught my interest on this site and I was curious about the story behind them. Img 4654 and 4654b show what appears to be a bad crash. What, when, where? I cannot seem to find much info. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does anyone remember the tail number of the airplane Lt. Col. Bill Boyd flew out of Kham Duc on the evacuation? Somebody wrote "The Lucky Duc" on the side. At one time Lars O. showed the name by a tail number of an airplane that crashed in Idaho or somewhere, but I can't find it in the last version of his booklet that I have.

Hi Tommy, I have a huge favor! Would you post another message on the C130-Hercules site for me, please? I’m still battling the VA for Ben and I need to find the guys who signed Ben’s paperwork in 1968. Ben is still suffering horribly and has had nine surgeries, four in the last year and is now being referred to the Michigan Head Pain and Neurological Institute. I’m desperate to find someone who knew him. Can you help me? Thanks so much, Becky =============================================================================== Ben flew with the following; C130A 56-549: 7 Jul 66 – 6 Jul 67 Assigned as a crew member and went TDY to SEA …

I got an e mail a few weeks back and could use some help. I think on the old herk pages we had this discussion but my old timers is drawing a blank. Back on 18 Feb 66, a herk dumped the first JFK casket, the one he was flown in to DC from TX, into the Atlantic. Andy Vaquera asked if I knew the tail number. I can't remember and can't find my notes. Seems I remember a B model from Sewart made the drop. I thought it was a 61 B model The one report I found said The crew was from the 61TCS which was at Sewart then. AFHRA website has been down for 2 months so no help there. Right around that time 61TCS converted from B's to …

The RNZAF is looking into replacing the current SRA we use. Rescue liferaft and survival stuff dropped to persons in distress at sea. What does the Coast Guard currently use and how does it / is it deployed from the C130?? Is it compatable with the P3 bomb rack? Cheers

When I was in Desert Storm with the 345th TAS,I was assigned to what was known as 'quick turn'. For about a week,we worked 2-12 hour shifts doing nothing but catching 130's,parking them, looking them over, fixing any little problems, fueling them, and blocking them out. No matter what squadron, wing, or branch they were assigned to. Anyways,I had an idea one day waiting to move the power unit after eng start. There were two other guys to help with the cord and power unit, so after I told them what to do,when the taxi light came on we all snapped to attention (we were standing straight off the AC's left shoulder, but out beyond the left wingtip) then we saluted, and then did the…

I'm looking for information on 56-0471 for my research project on the C-130 'A' fleet formerly assigned to the 118th TAW/105th TAW of the TNANG in Nashville. What I do have thus far is: this airplane was known as "The Blind Bat". It served with the 463rd TAW/35th TAS at Naha AB, Okinawa (circa 1969) & the 139th TAS NY ANG (circa 1972-75) / 105th TAS (1976) and then with the 147th TAS of the Deleware ANG (circa 1976-77) and then back to the 105th TAS (1977-1981). It was a test aircraft for the Black Crow Truck Ignition Locating System. Upon retirement, she went to AMARC on 23 April 1990 (CF 0087) and was eventually sold to National and broken up. If anyone ha…

I was wondering if anyone knows if 73 models (super E's) 1597 and 1598 are still at Yokota. I was there from jan 90 to jan 93. I had to pull 'SAAM' preps a couple times on those birds with Tsgt Don Herlacher. What fun that was. A 3 day BPO!!

Always wondered about hush missions on unmarked silver C-130a's in 1960's. I was in 374th fms comm nav shop I think at the time we had three guys that crewed them out of our shop. It was all classified stuff at the time but sort of thought they supported lima site in Laos. Last day at Naha I got the pleasure to go to Kadena for a UHF radio problem seemed funny they sent a staff car to carry me and a good radio up island. When I got there I saw seven C-130's behind two or three fences all with armed air police and german shepherds I did have a clue. They finally got me to the plane with a broke radio and when they opened the crew door it became quite clear why all the secu…

I\'m looking for Tom Lahovski. He was a copilot in the 61st from around 1970 thru 72 or 73. He then went Palace Chase to the Willow Grove unit when it still had the old Roman-nose A models. Last time I saw him was around 87 or 88. If anybody knows him and has an e-mail or snail mail address for him, I appreciate it. Mike

Sadly, this month the Philippine AF has broken up 3946, the first L-100 produced. It had immense historical value for us in the Herc community. Its first fligh on 4/20/64 lasted more than 24 hours! It's too bad Lockheed didn't take any steps to preserve it. It would've looked nice sitting in front of the hangar where it was built, painted in the red and white Lockheed demonstrator colors. You can check it out in the C-130 Database section. Below are some photos from my friend, Joseph Simon. Some of you ex-Transafrik people may remember his as a Filipino mechanic in Luanda. Don R.
