Our Ops Group Commader is requesting information on one of our old airplanes, 62-1788. I was hoping some of you may be able to help out. The active duty here at LR is taking the airplane to the boneyard next week. Apparently they have a reporter who will be flying with the crew to Davis Monthan to witness the airplane be delivered to the boneyard. This reporter is looking for historical info on the airplane for the article. Since we had the airplane for over 20 years, the active duty has referred this reporter to us for the information. We do not have any historical info on this tail so I am appealing to you all for help.

John Allen sent me these pictures of 55-0005 and 56-0469. They were Blind Bat aircraft. The pictures appear to be taken at Naha and Ubon 1969-70.

I came across this article the other day from the May 2013 edition of Combat Aircraft magazine. It is part 1 of 2 on the C-130J program. Lots of good info on the development program and all the upgrades since then. http://www.scribd.com/doc/142174301/Kaminsi-T-May-2013-Super-Hercules-Part-One-C-130J-Development-and-USAF-Service-Combat-Aircraft-Vol-14-No-5

I threw this out a few years ago, and it's one of my favorites: This is for the young buck's out there to keep the story living. A C-130 load get's into an altercation with a jump master.......heated exchanges, and the load gets a sick-sack plowed into his face right before the jump master exits the Herk. The result....the load is pissed and JUMPS AFTER HIM! From what the O-Club stories say, the Load is really into a whacko fit on the DZ and a lot of paratroopers are bewildered. Does anyone remember this incident? Kurt

It wasn't there this morning on the way to work, but when I went back later to pick up some beers at the Shoppette....64-0523 c/n [cn]4007[/cn] was sitting as the gate guard at Cannon. I'll try to get a picture on here on Sunday... It's a nice piece of history to have displayed out here.

As I recall, during the Falklands war, the Argentinians briefly used a C-130 as a bomber. Does anyone know how they did it? (slung on the pylons, extracted out the back, gravity dropped?)

My understanding that the USAF and VNAF left behind some A models at TSN. My understanding is that some were deliberately destroyed and some left in a derelict condition. Does any one have a list of the ones left and the fate of the rest now gone. Thanks Col

Hello, Am new here so apologize up front if this has been discussed previously. There is currently a photo on ebay which ostensibly depicts the subject a/c with what appears to be 2 engines. I have tried to find some explanation for this configuration but have found nothing. I am a veteran with fond memories of the C-130, but I am far from a technical expert. I just found this particular photo fascinating since I had never seen a twin-engine C-130 previously. Can anyone offer any insight on what this photo represents or am I just imagining something ? Thanks, Bob Rinder http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290968097380&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:316…

I was wondering if anyone has any stories/pic's they would like to post of Bob Hope during his USO performance tours in Vietnam. This would be a great thread, and tribute to one of Herky's beloved passengers. Kurt

Today my wife and I were clearin' some stuff out of our attic, yeah really, and came across a bunch of stuff from my AF days..... a couple of travel orders, a passenger manifest between Ban Me Thouh and Saigon, with four Vietnamese troops on it ( I guess they were on our side), set of the texts from loady school in 70, a complete set of airdrop checklists, in the blue plastic spiral book, a copy of the order that had us stop using parachutes on airdrops and usin' the harnesses instead, that was 1973......My God, I can't believe I used to know all that stuff....................What a trip back in time an old cardboard box provided load clear giz

Does anyone have any close ups of the two rails attached to the bottom of the upper rear cargo door of Rescue HC-130Hs/Ns/Ps? I believe that when the door was raised in-flight, the rails were connected to overhead rails in the cargo bay and were used to lift and drop the air rescue package. Does anyone have more detailed information on its use? This is for a modeler who is building an HC-130P. Also, the 33rd ARRS had the MAC badge and Rescue tail band on a SEA camo bird in the mid 70s. Does anyone know the tail number so I can look it up in your photo library? Also, does anyone know of the tail number of the HC-130Ps that supported HH-53s on the Son Tay Raid? Any help …

I am writing an analysis PPT for an Embry-Riddle AU Accident Investigation Course relating to accidents caused by Human Factors at airshows. I was at this particular airshow on that fateful day acting as a Combat Controller talking with range control during the airshow. This aircraft crashed right in front of me performing a LAPES in lane #1 at Sicily EZ. I remember that their were complaints from the nav from an earlier practice run the day prior about the pilot hotdogging. The original Nav asked to not fly the day of the incident and he was replaced by another Nav who was killed. The Co-pilot and FE survived. I was wondering if anybody on this forum remembers this …

Hey guys, I'm not real sure if this is the place for this thread, but I'll give it a try. I just finished a history course at the local community college, titled: Vietnam; a History 1945 to Present. Attached is my final exam paper. There are a lot of Vietnam vets on this site and thought you may find this interesting. Blessed Christmas to all of you....Chris

Ok old timers I need an answer on this. When the C-130A aircraft arrived at Evreux AB, FR, were they assigned to the 317th TCW or the 322nd AD. When I got there all of the aircraft forms said 317th Cams. While I was there (1962-1964) I heard that the aircraft had been assigned to the 317th TCW prior to the 322nd AD. Is this true or not? Thanks in advance.

While my mind is on the old style air drop systems...Is there anyone on this board that remembers this accident at Pope AFB? It was late 1968 or early 69 that a new airdrop/rigging system with cables and pullys attached to FS 245 and running aft was being tested. It was the wing commanders aircraft and was assigned to the 777Th TAS as I remember. I saw the setup since it was parked next to my bird prior to launch. The acft. RTB shortly after T.O. with firetrucks screaming and it taxied back to the spot. After all the brass had their look I was allowed on the acft. and cables and parts of 245 were everywhere inside the acft. As far as I know that was the only test of this …

Another thread here prompted a memory. When I was at Pope I remember a picture (think it was at 3rd Aerial Port) of a big ball of metal that used to be a tank. The story was that it happened during a LAPES on Bragg someplace, no chutes or a "bad bounce" or something similar. Anyone have any memory of this? It was around the 73-75 time frame.

I have recently become the DCC of 282 and my ACC's and I are looking to name the aircraft. One of the things we had in mind was to give the aircraft it's original name. We have done a lot of research and are unable to find anything about the original name of the aircraft. I was wondering and hoping that somebody on here might be able to help us find this information. Also, if anybody has any pictures of old nose art displayed on 282 it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I was just checking my bio to see if anything needed to be updated and I noticed something interesting. Of the 8 bases I have listed as being assigned to, 6 of them have closed. Another reason to make me feel old. Don R.
