I'm looking for any info on the 1 Apr 1997 crash at Toncontin International Airport in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. This is what I do know: Unit/Pilot/tail #/landed long, fast, & incorrect flap setting/already went around twice/ran off runway killing 3 crew members. I remember going over this accident in AMIC but can't find anything but general articles on the web. It's for a human factors class and would like to have a little more info before I press on with the writing. Thanks in advance for any input you may provide. Mike

One thing that combat operations permits is the freer expressions of personality that peace time drudgery tamps down. Perhaps the 4 most discussed personalities of CCK between 72 and the closure in 74 was Capt Applebaum (21TAS), 1Lt John Grillo (345TAS) and the Marosla twins (Dewey and Donnie). Muff and I have already mentioned John Grillo in other posts. Does any one know (venture to guess) which of the twins smuggled BB onto the Base in the trunk of his car? This incident to my knowledge made it all the way to the Embassy in Taipei.

OK, it's been more than a year since I posted this request, but there are a lot of new members now who might be able to help. Back in the late 1970's not long after the 37th TAS was reactivated at Rhein Main, 64-0550 was involved in a serious landing accident at the US Navy facility at Naples, Italy. The left MLG (I think) was torn out. It sat at Naples for a long time and was then temp repaired and flown to Lockheed for the permanent repairs. All I remember was that it was a co-pilot landing (Lt, Beal) at an extremely high speed. The airplane did a 180 and wound up off the end of the runway. Even the bottom of the horizontal stab was damaged so it must have been …

While my mind is on the old style air drop systems...Is there anyone on this board that remembers this accident at Pope AFB? It was late 1968 or early 69 that a new airdrop/rigging system with cables and pullys attached to FS 245 and running aft was being tested. It was the wing commanders aircraft and was assigned to the 777Th TAS as I remember. I saw the setup since it was parked next to my bird prior to launch. The acft. RTB shortly after T.O. with firetrucks screaming and it taxied back to the spot. After all the brass had their look I was allowed on the acft. and cables and parts of 245 were everywhere inside the acft. As far as I know that was the only test of this …

I seem to remember a story about a Talon "bombing" an aircraft carrier (playing war games.) Anyone out there know the story? Is it true or legend?

I'm working on a history project of the old 'A' models which were once assigned to the 118th TAW (Tennessee Air National Gauard) in Nashville. I can find very little info on 55-0027, other than a few tidbits here and there. I'd like more info on the operational life of this aircraft for this history project. Thanks!

G'day Everyone, I am trying to find out if a particular C-130A is still flying. It started life with the RAAF as S/N A97-212 and is now I am told operating with the Serial Number N131EC. I have been able to track it to around 2006 where I found a photo of it being operated by Cherry Air Aviation Services but the trail runs cold from there. I have looked up the data base here but it is pretty blank but it did give me a LPN 3212. (http://www.c-130hercules.net/acftdb/LPNs/LPN.php?lpn=3212&x=0&y=0) Any help would be great as I would love to know if the old girl is still flying or not these days. Thanks in advance.

I was cleaning out some books and found the small book (Poo Poo Make Prant Glow) that my wife got in Taichung. In the book, folded, was a list of traffic hazards it Taiwan. We were given this list when we got there in 1971 and it is a true list of the traffic we fought going to the base or to the Navy commissary. EXSISTING TRAFFIC HAZARDS UPON THE ROADS OF TAIWAN 1. Pedestrians failing to utilize marked crosswalks and pedestrian underpasses. 2. Improper child supervision resulting in children running across streets and highways. 3. Motorcycles failing to use proper lanes while traveling on streets and highways. 4. Vehicles failing to yield to r…

Hello everyone, Let me introduce myself my name is justin nichols and my grandfather i believe he rode and maintained a C-130. Years ago on a telephone converstion he told me and showed me a site where his plane was being restored for display...somewhere. After some talking he had a photo (to which I have a copy of) of one of there trips where he is standing shaking hands with i think either a vietnamse boy or korean boy. Either way he wasnt sure if he was able to make the trip to donate the photo, because they really would have liked to have it....well I promised him when i got old enough to drive i would pick him up and take him there to do it. ...i never got …

Just thought I would share a little information. I am currently going through school here at LR for FE retraining and I've had the pleasure of having Mr. Sam McGoldrick as our instructor. He is getting ready to retire at the age of 71 and next week is his last of work. He told us a story today about a plane he was on that crashed in Kadena when #4 engine throttle cable broke and sent the engine to full power. The plane was tore all to hell and was deemed unrepairable (from what I've been told). The way he told the story was pretty amazing that no one was killed. The plane sounded like it was pretty well spent after all it went through. Anyway, I just thought if a…

Mike Welch just told me some thrilling news. The airplane in this video http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65675058323_George-M-Godley_TAC-C-13OE-plane_covered-body_priest has been donated to a museum in Chino, California. The fuselage had gone to Boeing to use in the AMPS program and they were getting ready to scrap it until Mike and another C-130 vet took action. Mike is doing a great job as the new president of the TCTAA. This airplane had just come back from the DRAGON ROUGE operation in Stanleyville when the film clip was shot.

Received the message below via the Contact Us form: The YMC-130H Credible Sport at WR-ALC Museum Of Aviation has been declared excess and may be cut up.The Museum is looking for a qualified organization/museum that would like to adopt the aircraft and has the funds to move it. Any qualified organization that's interested may contact the Museum Of Aviation Director Ken Emery at 478 926-5796. As I have said before, I believe that the aircraft is an important piece of C-130/Aviation history and I would hate to see it lost.

Hi folks, Sherm here. Anyone out there have copy of the photo of the C-130 which went off the runway at Cape Romanzof back in the '80s? Story goes the 17th guys couldn't fly that day (winds out of limits at the site) and another unit - TDY to Elmendorf - took the trip and were blown off the strip into the gully on the left side. Damage to outboard fuel tank caused a leak and fire. A man with a front-end loader scooped up a load of snow and extinguished the fire. A crane was frozen into place in a makeshift pond created by damming the ditch draining the right side of the runway. Aircraft was pulled out of the creek, back onto the runway and somehow they got it up to…

Still working on my "history project" Boy, I'm really having a hard time finding any information on this one. Here's what I have so far: Not much information is available on 56-0512 and not many photos were found of this aircraft. The aircraft was assigned to the 118th and was listed as a “former†aircraft of the 118th in the 1986 publication From Blackwood Field to Berry Field 1921-1986. This aircraft arrived at AMARC on 20 May 1976, and was assigned the AMARC control # CF007. The AMARC database shows that this aircraft had previously been assigned to the 166th Tactical Airlift Group in Greater Wilmington. J. Baugher’s account of this aircraft is …
