Found an excellent shooting range here, probably the best range I have seen in a long time. Its run by the conservation folks, its public and FREE to use (thank God I get something for all these taxes here in IN). It was a nice day, warmed up and was about 33 or 34 and sunny and we had a great time!!

7 years after I retired and now I'm diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. After checking some of my old medical records looks like my blood sugar was in the norm during my time in so now don't think I'll get anything from the VA for this new diagnosis. What are others experience with post retirement changes in their medical status? Funny but if I had been in VN it would be automatic.

This is the definition of a true Hero, not some sports weenie or creapy little band member, a REAL HERO:) A fellow brother of the Prop! http://www.military.com/news/article/navy-pilots-last-act-saving-3-crew-mates.html?ESRC=airforce-a.nl

Saw Season 13 Episode 3 of Top Gear on BBC America Monday night. In one segment James May comes to an airfield in the California desert to ride with Stunt and Rally driver Ken Block. I didn't catch the name of the airfield but it appeared to be an old military base (ammo igloos). In a couple of quick scenes there was what appeared to be a camo painted civilian Herk. Anyone know where this is and which aircraft?

Frank Buckles, who lied about his age to get into uniform during the war, also survived being a civilian POW in the Philippines in World War II. He died peacefully of natural causes on Sunday at his home in Charles Town having just hit the 110 milestone at the beginning of the month. hey , guys, the local paper is gonna run this in their Saturday TV guide section supposedly from that bastion of historical information, accuracy, and research History Channel. They claim it to be of a young marine just off the boat at DaNang in 65. Some things about it puzzle me, I may be off on this stuff, so let me know. First, his name tag, has both first initials and last name, and is on the left side of his blouse. My recollection is that they were on the right, last name only. Number two, his helmet cover has writing on it which probably didn't happen on your first day on the beach. His hair looks way too long, and he has no rank insignia visible. And, tinwhistle…

F-15's and 16's aren't bad, but they are getting old. The F-22 is supposed to be far more capable, but there won't ever be very many of them. Now the F-35 is about ready. It's smaller than the F-22, and a lot less expensive. Maybe we'll get a lot of them. Unmanned aircraft still can't do everything. The link below brings up a video about the infrared sensor system on the F-35. It's about a microsecond behind science-fiction . . . . . Let's hope it really does what they say it does-but it may also be just a proposal. http://www.es.northropgrumman.com/solutions/f35targeting/assets/eodasvideo.html

Hey you Eglin and Hurlburt guys, I'm really out of touch now with what goes on down there. What unit has moved it that is lobbing arty every night, sounds just SW of my house here in Krestucky and its not gunships or fighters, most times it will be multiple impacts and most of them sound like 105 or larger and it goes on for three or four hours a night almost constant (do they still use 155mm?), but some could be 80 or 120mm mortars, but whatever it is they sure are blowing a bunch of stuff up - god I love it:D But just curious on who or what is happening. Interesting article. I've got an answer for them. They're no longer "pilots" and play Microsoft Flight Simulator for their job. http://defensetech.org/2013/01/02/19091/

For all you old-timers out there, check out this flying model of Ole Shakey. The clamshell doors even open. The only things missing are the sexy rumble of the 4360's and the squeeling brakes. I think the model flies faster than the real thing!!! http://www.rcuvideos.com/video/Douglas-C-124a Don R.

The Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh III published his professional reading list Feb. 6 2014 "This year's CSAF Reading List was designed to build understanding," Welsh said in his message to Airmen. "There are stories of Airmen, fellow service members and leaders from many different backgrounds. I bet there's a book, a movie, a piece of artwork, or a TED Talk in there that you can relate to.†http://static.dma.mil/usaf/csafreadinglist/pdf/2013ReadingList.pdf

Has anyone heard from Airnav (aka Kurt) from Indiana? He used to call me about once a week, but I haven't heard anything from him in a few months. I don't have a number so I can't call him. Thanks. Don R.

2/17/2010 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- The first woman to serve as major general in the Air Force, and the Department of Defense, passed away Feb. 15. Retired Maj. Gen. Jeanne M. Holm is credited as the single driving force in achieving parity for military women and making them a viable part of the mainstream military. The Portland, Ore., native attained the rank of two-star general in 1973 after a career that began 31 years earlier in 1942 when she enlisted in the Army. General Holm entered Women's Army Air Corps in January 1943 where she received a commission as third officer, the WAAC equivalent of second lieutenant. General Holm also became the first woman to atten…
