A-models and early B-models had a cargo door of the left side just aft of the crew entry door. From what I have read, there were problems with them coming open inflight and causing several crashes and were sealed up. Does anyone have any pictures of them opened up?

Hello all, does anyone have a list of the C-130A HERCULES that escaped from TAN SON NHUT in 1975 and landed in THAILAND at U TAPAO AFB in late April and that were subsequently flown to Guam in early May?There were 9 aircraft in all,I have some but not all of their identities-I would particularly like serial number and tailcode tie-ups,such as 56-0518/HCM.Personnel at both locations may be able to help, in addition 5 VNAF C-130A were in Singapore getting their wings repaired when THE REPUBLIC OF VIET NAM was conquered-does anyone know their identities? All 5 were repaired and went to the USAF. I know about the C-130A that escaped and was impounded there earlier on, (57-0460…

C-130E 62-1814 CRB, Viet Nam March 3, 1968. Fire in aft cockpit. Some say caused by a hard landing. I believe all aboard survived.

Hello All, I am new to the forum so I would like to start by saying hello. The main reason I joined the forum was because I have been searching the internet all day on the first flight of the C-130H-30 with no success and was wondering if any of you can help me find information on when it was. I would greatly appreciate any information you can provide. Thanks.

I came across this article the other day from the May 2013 edition of Combat Aircraft magazine. It is part 1 of 2 on the C-130J program. Lots of good info on the development program and all the upgrades since then. http://www.scribd.com/doc/142174301/Kaminsi-T-May-2013-Super-Hercules-Part-One-C-130J-Development-and-USAF-Service-Combat-Aircraft-Vol-14-No-5

Somewhere on this site was a post about the electrical system on the A-II. Can't be of much help with that as I was an H model cc. But I did some work at Moldyhole 67-69 on the Rhine Main birds when they needed heavy maint or things like a rocket removed from the tail of a bird that was listening near Russia. The EOD guys from Lakenheath were good disarmers. The operating Sq. was the 7406th Support Sq. The book "The Price of Vigilance" gives a great description of the death of 56-0528 c/n [cn]3136[/cn] in Armenia. It is a great read, written by a former backseater in the module. During this time there were some black 130Es that were rumored to be from Ramstein. Once I Hel…

I am trying to get information the "Cambodian Gunrunners" patch. I read that it was used by the 16 SOS in Vietnam but does anyone know if this was just a unit patch or was it ever officially recognized by the USAF. The squadron had patches made using the old design (adding a full green/tan Herk dropping a CDS)but used "Afghanistan" in lieu of "Cambodia" but we are unable to get it authorized by the leadership at our deployed location. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Casey Emailed me and asked about the CAROLINA MOON page I had on my old SamC130 site. To be honest, I\'m not sure if I forgot to transfer it to my new domain or if it was one of a number of pages that were accidentally replaced when I tried to use FRONT PAGE several years ago. I\'ll put up a new page about the mission when I find the time, but in the meantime, here is a capsuled version. CAROLINA MOON was a special mission that came about in the spring of 1966 when Seventh Air Force was unable to knock down the infamous Than Hoa Bridge spanning a gorge known as The Dragons Jaw just north of Vinh. Several missions were flown by F-105s without success in a campaign that …

Pineapple!!! While at CCK one of the most pain in the ass things I remember was doing something on top of the airplane and seeing way off in the distance one or two guys walking the flight-line with white coveralls on! You knew QC was on the flightline and you had better get all of your ground wires in order etc. etc. Of course the most feared QC inspector of all was a guy named "Pineapple" (I assumed he was Hawaiian) always tried to stay one step ahead of him. Us guys who spent a lot of time in Viet Nam really had to worry as we basically didn't have any quality control there and got used to not having things like LOX pans, gloves, etc. I never did know Pineapple's …

CCK Museum Needs Unit Patches The ROCAF office in charge of the new American Footprint Museum at CCK AFB has asked if we could provide copies or original patches of the units assigned at CCK.. They were looking for any of the 6217th patches when they called today. I Googled the 6217th USAF Hospital and found a copy of the Hospital Patch on a web page from a guy who was at CCK and worked at the hospital. Unfortunately, it is not a sharp photo and cannot be blown large enough for display. This is the largest I could get without it running into fading out unrecognizable colors. I think the bottom says Penduwm Curage? Obviously not the right …
