Can you believe this guy........ Obama proposes to sell China C-130s Source: Global Times China [02:22 October 11 2010] By Hao Zhou US President Barack Obama has proposed to Congress terminating the suspension of C-130 cargo aircraft export licenses to China, according to a letter published Friday on the White House's website. This proposal, which is regarded by some Chinese analysts as blandishments to China after the US stiffly pressed China to revaluate its yuan, is still subject to review and approval by both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The White House didn't release the quantity or price of the C-130s in the proposal. If it ge…

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2010/03/04/339075/picture-netherlands-gets-first-refurbished-hercules.html I'm a little lost here. To me, this is a T-model. It's got the old wire antenna, APU and Rosemount pitots. If so, why is the Navy getting rid of them?

Can anyone give me info as to what unit(s) these aircraft were assigned and the locations while in SEA and about how long they were in-country? I have prostate cancer (caught early enough to deal with) and it may sound like a reach connecting it to agent orange but if those birds were contaminated I worked on them from 75-80 as a CC and then from 81-85 as a FE. I'm thinking about filing a claim and even though I'll get turned down I have a paper trail started. I've been told if I was in-country to file a claim (I never went to SEA). There is no history of prostate cancer in my family on either side.

Is the C-130 crew loss list still available? It was on the old Hercules Headquarters site. I'm trying to find the names of the three enlisted men who died on a B-model that crashed in Vietnam in 1967. Jerry Bennet was the aircraft commander. Allegedly, the engineer was trapped in his seat and the two loadmasters went back in the airplane with the intention of chopping his leg off with the crash ax and the airplane blew up. Jerry tells me that he doesn't remember the exact details of what happened until he woke up in the hospital. Sam That was 58-0722 at Bao Loc 16 Apr 1967. The crew losses were SSgt David Glover, SSgt Donald Kannell, A1C David Chaney. That was also…

1. Now that Dyess is starting to get its J's, have they starting shipping out any of their H's? 2. Are any of the 1974 H's supposed to get AMP'd? 3. Is Yokota still next to receive J's after Dyess? 4. The recent post about 62-1788 going to the Boneyard said that of the 2 AMC squadrons at Little Rock, one was supposed to get H's and the other J's. Are the H's ex Dyess H's? 5. Is the plan for the 62 at Little Rock to get some 74 H's and return the borrowed ARF H's? Thanks Bob

We were talking a bit about the C-130 charcachure that was done for our unit probably 30 years ago. I don't know who did it, but I'm pretty sure it was by a civilian/retired military guy that lived near Pope AFB. Does anyone know who I'm talking about and/or have further information?

Book Review: “The Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules: A Complete Historyâ€, by Peter C. Smith (Crecy Publishing, latest printing 2010). My first recommendation is DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BOOK—IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY (list price $49.95). Being a C-130 fan, I am a sucker for C-130 books. I regret that a got suckered into buying this one. Even though I have not read the text to discover what inaccuracies exist there, I found that many of the photo captions in this book are inaccurate or totally incorrect. The captions appear as though the author simply fabricated them instead of performing research to ensure they are accurate. Here are a few examples of the fabrica…

There's a video on YouTube showing two Southern Air Transport loadmasters "surfing" off the ramp of a Herc after air drops in the southern Sudan. It was taken about 10 or more years ago. One of the loadmasters was the late Dennis Garcia and I can't remember the other one's name. I had it bookmarked on my computer (I thought), but now I can find it. I've typed just about everything relevant into Google, but nothing comes up about it. Can anyone help? Anyone? Thanks in advance. Don R.

The 418th Flight Test Squadron at Edwards AFB, Calif., is putting the new High Speed Container Delivery System through the wringers. HSCDS, an evolution of the proven Container Delivery System airdrop method, would allow for the aerial delivery of supplies from C-130Js at lower altitudes and higher airspeeds, said Edwards officials in an Aug. 1 release. Initial developmental testing began in June and is expected to wrap up in late August. The testing includes increasing airdrop airspeed from 140 knots to 245 knots, reducing drop altitude to 250 feet above the ground, and using a parachute to extract up to eight 2,000-pound supply containers…

So we went and saw The Dark Knight Rises. The first ten minutes of the film involve a Herk and a feat that had me questioning if it was possible. This is so far the only link that I can find to give you a reference if you have not seen it http://jerrygarrett.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/how-the-aerial-stunt-was-filmed-in-dark-knight-rises/ Yes the special effects used a glider that looked like a turboprop. But would that be possible? eta- lets just say that the turboprop on average weighs 9800lbs. I think a herc can carry a maximum of 42000. But it is not a tow truck. Garbage scow, yes. Tow truck no. I would think the drag on the weight of the turboprop would factor in…

Saw these two pics on the Lockheed Flickr site today. First one said for AETC, I guess the 41AS The second one said for AMC 61 AS. Is the 61AS now converting to the J? Are they still flying H's? Thanks Bob

Is the term the “Hawk†(strong cold winter wind) still used when maintaining aircraft on the flight line when it is cold outside? Is anything colder than working on a C-130 @ 3AM at McGuire NJ in the winter…I don’t think so.

C-130 Designation Question

I have been working on a new page for the site that breaks down C-130 designations. http://www.c-130hercules.net/C-130reference/C-130DesignationInfo.php I think I have it nailed down thus far but I do have a few questions: Some aircraft have/had a suffix preceded by a dash, e.g. C-130A-II and C-130E-II. Can someone explain? I have also seen some aircraft with a suffix in parenthesis, e.g. HC-130H(N). Can someone explain? Lastly I have seen some EC-130Es referred to as EC-130E(RR) and EC-130E(CL). Where these actual designations or just used to illustrate Rivet Rider vs. Rivet Clamp modified aircraft? --Casey

Aircraft Data Legend or Technical Data block Anyone know where aircraft ID, s/n, manufactures information plate was located on the various C-130 models? What was detailed? I searched the WEB and can’t find an example or picture of one. Eventually in the early 90’s T.O 1-1-4 states that it was a Technical Data Block and could be either on the fuselage side or near the ground-refueling receptacle. Where is / was it on an A thru J?
