Casey, Hope this is one of your best Birthday's ever. Thanks so much for all the time and energy you put into this web site. You will never know how much it means to all us old timers (and others too!!). I look forward each day to see what will be posted here. Things sure have changed on 130's since 1964 and I can keep up here, while many things are still the same so I can still provide information. Best of both worlds. Thanks again and Happy Birthday. Sonny

Fifty years ago today was a dark day for America and the world. For you old farts, do you remember what you were doing when you heard the news? As for me, I was a young A/3C with 4 months under my belt at Langley AFB, VA. It must've been a weekend because I remember sitting in the dayroom watching TV when the news broke. The CQ was T/Sgt Clevenger, a crew chief on one of the B-models. I remember going over to him and telling him the news. I'll never forget the look on his face! Don R.

Figured I would start a new thread for this and not bolox up my post about the MOH. There is NO CLASSIFIED or Sensitive, or OPSEC related information in this post, lets just get that out there right off the top Gary (and all, if your interested), take a look at the Wikipedia article on "the battle for Roberts Ridge and Op Anaconda - lots of disinformation there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Anaconda like this example Chapman was gunned down, hard, not even five minutes after they sat down and engaged, and then several mortar shells landing not ten feet from the body later on! If he got up and fought later, he sure didn't do it this dimen…

It's probably just me, but with this typhoon in the P.I.s I feel like I should be preparing #877 for a big time relief mission. Kinda restless, watching those Herks and crews do their thing. I used to be useful !!!!!!!!

Tonight Thurs 11/7/13 Weather Channel says the worlds strongest typhoon is headed for the P.I. Predicted winds from 190 to 230 MPH. Looks like it will hit Cebu City but miss Angelese City. All us old P.I. Herk guys need to pray for them. There are about 3000 ex GIs living in the PI but about 58 million total people live in the PI. I remember typhoon bug outs but this looks like the macdaddy of all time. Bill Clark AB 69-70

On occasion Casey will refer to this site and those who frequent it as "The C-130 Community". We all agree that the "Herk" is a life long love affair and we all, here, share that love of our Hercules, which leads me to an observation: the "people" on this site. I am very fortunate in that I am able to travel, and in the past two years I have traveled to Montana twice, for several days each trip and have become fast friends with MTcrewchief. I have also traveled in the opposite direction to "Western Maryland". The visits there have not been as lengthy, however, the time spent with "Giz" and his wife has been exceptional. These two, Ken and Paul, are real, honest, "stand up…

I've been working at cleaning out old files, etc. in the ol' computer and ran across an old email asking if I had copy's of those old DVD's that were floating around a few years ago. I couldn't make out who sent me the request and I don't remember if I ever answered. Yes, I do have copy's of 3 or 4 of those DVD's, albeit in poor condition. If you want a copy please P.M. me and I'll copy it and get it to you. One of them is the one with John Wayne-Anything, Anywhere, Anytime.

I've be browsing the web site www amervets dot com. Some pretty good information. I filled out some info and they sent me a listing of awards and decs that I probably qualify for. In the listing I saw only 2 that I might qualify for, Air Force Training (Accession) and Cold War ribbons. Not sure but I just might use their form and send them in. A few others I might have to research more. Is there a place when you can research awards for particular units, projects, or other support? I provided some support for the Yon Kipper War in '73 while at Wright-Patterson. There was something like a 900 series manual that listed unit awards but it was in an office on base. …

This Really Exists: Giant Concrete Arrows That Point a Way Across America. Cement Arrows, Transcontinental Air Mail Route Courtesy of Aviation Archaeological Investigation & Research Every so often, usually in the vast deserts of the American Southwest, a hiker or a backpacker will run across something puzzling: a concrete arrow, as much as seventy feet in length, just sitting in the middle of scrub-covered nowhere. What are these giant arrows? Some kind of surveying mark? Landing beacons…

A friend gave me a book to read the other day thinking I might be interested in it! I was, to say the least!! This is a true WWII story that took place in New Guinea! It is another one of those "I never knew anything like that ever happened" books! In other words a true story!! I won't go into any other details but I am sure you would all enjoy it! If you want any other details, let me know. I'll bet some of you guys have already read it, but for those that haven't I think you will like it!! Ken

I didn't want to hijack the "Veterans" thread with this, but MTcrewchief sent me an essay written by author James Web, titled "Heroes of the Vietnam Generation". Fascinating read!!!!!! My comment to MTcrewchief was that I certainly never considered myself a "warrior". I remember the times we loading up a platoon (or what ever the Army terminology was) of troops after a couple weeks in the bush and thinking that I was lucky I wasn't one of them. Then feeling bad about those thoughts. There is an irony to this: several months ago I was talking to a Marine Vietnam Vet while at the VA Hospital and he said to me that he thought we (C-130 guys), were the brave ones!!!

This fine young gentleman from Michigan recently called me from home and said he was going to Billings MT. to visit his mother and sister and other relatives. He had seen my name and posts/gallery on our forum. Well, we met this morning and had quite a visit ( non-stop into the afternoon). I even let him talk every now and then!! tinwhistle would know what I mean!! This guy was a crew chief on 63-7840 at CCK for two tours from 70 to 73. His name is Gary Radatz! He is also a member on this forum but I think he is kind of shy!!!! he goes by gary005 . Don and Larry, I reminded him to get his profile up to date as I see both of you guys still beat me to the new guys! He al…

Not sure how many of you have a Jeep but I found this forum site for just about kind of questions you might have that are Jeep related. Good site. A lot of helpful people. Not spamming, etc. I found some useful answers to questions about our '09 Liberty.

I assume the reunion you guys were planning on attending a few weeks ago was a good one!!! Am I right? Did any of you fine young gentlemen (you too Giz) happen to take your camera along? If so did any of you take any pictures that the rest of us would enjoy? I am sure a lot (most) of us would like to see them---especially the ones that are here on the forum! It would be like seeing some of you guys in "real life" !!! Thanks, Ken I still think it would be cool to have a C-130 Hercules Forum reunion in the near future! I will go out on a limb and volunteer Chris(tinwhistle) as the host!!!!! :D
