I had some stats on Herk safety in the ANG/AFRC. I counted 9 units with over 40 years of accident free flying, and a lot more with spotless records. So I decided to try the same for active duty units. I was looking up info and ran into some questions can anyone help? I think I remember 36AS was a 141 squadron from 1989 to 1993? When did 79 RQS first get Herks? It was the only Herk Sq not in the squadron history listings at AF Historical Research? Has 50AS been accident free since 1972? Has 67SOS been accident free since it got Herks in 1965? Has 53AS been accident free since it got Herks in 1993? Is 517 AS still an Associate SQ at Elmendorf? Back in 1969, 65-0990 …

Hi Guys, I don't want to reinvent the wheel here. I have all my military photos posted here. http://picasaweb.google.com/billxmailman/AllMilitary# 1966-1970. I was based at Dyess, 347th and Naha Okinawa, 21st. 3 years 10 months 10 days in the AF. Last 6 months were spent in a leg cast and rehab. I was looking to do them here but it would just take a long time. If I get stuck in a real stretch of bad weather I'll start. There are airdrop, Blindbat, Vietnam, Ubon, Naha, paratroopers, Europe photos. Also Naha motorcycle club photos. Let me know when you have viewed them. Thanks, Bill

told a buddy of mine I'd start this up..........I know there are a few of ya out there already, but hopin to find more. Terry is interested, as I am, in findin' any former members of the 36th, 37th, and 38th TAS from Langley during the time period say June 1970 to about the end of 1973. There are some, like "Shorty" Boyd, Ted Jalowick, Ray Imri, Lou Simpson, Bill Greene, who seem to have just disappeared. Terry was with the 36th to begin with and then went to the 38th when it started up. We also had some loadys come in from 123 Ranch Hands, anybody know of them??? Many more names but it would make the post enormous. I know Bob Daly is in this fine group of people, so w…

Does the J run off of cables or is it all fly by wire and electric throttles? Reason for the question is the Boeing 777 that crashed/landed short yesterday at Heathrow. From what the British investigators have released so far is at 600 AGL the pilot pushed up the throttles and the computer decided he didn\'t need power!! Call me a Luddite but I like the idea of a direct connection to flight controls or engines, I have too many things that \"absolutely cannot fail\" fail on me. (seems to me those guys were pretty lucky) Dan

I would really love to see 1302, 1306 and 1307. 88-1307 was my plane. Hope the Special ops guys have as good of a time on them as we did. Thanks

Anyone know the max bank angle for the C130?? Is 65 over the limit. I don't know where the number would be written. The old B-1 states "In executing turns under combat conditions, remember that 60 degrees is the maximum bank angle."

How many of you were in TAC when we changed to MAC and how did you like it. I didn't like it there were too many changes . I thought we had been operating the C-130 just fine while we were in TAC for all those years and we did not need a bunch of new regulations and operating procedures. I disliked the change so much I couldn't stand to wear the MAC. Patch on the flight suit.

Many, many, years ago (1966) in a land far, far away (Republic of South Vietnam) there was a C-130 squadron named the 776th. One day in that year of 1966 one of those fine C-130s blew both left main gear tires on a lovely old PSP runway belonging to some fine U.S. Marines located in a little valley long since forgotten. That day there was a lot of discussion as to what to do with that poor 'lil ol' Herky bird stranded in the middle of that runway. Some thought it wise to bulldoze it off to the side and be done with it. Eventually, cooler heads prevailed and another C-130 complete with two aircraft repair types was flown in (a very hairy landing indeed!) and repairs were a…

I was reading the posts on the different levels of training and the diagonals and red x's, and got to thinking about all of the time that we crew chiefs spent on them!! What was their official name/number? I remember the 781K's in the back that always had to be gone through at every de-briefing upon returning home from CRB etc. etc., but were all of the maint. forms numbered 781's also? Anyway, what happens to the acft. forms over the years? Do ALL of them stay with the acft. in one way or another? I don't remember what we did with them when they were all signed off etc. I know, it always made me feel good to have my forms (write-ups etc.) kept to minimum! If these fo…

We dropped three brand new Chevy Sonics a couple months ago down at Eloy, AZ. The aircraft was N121TG, ex-USAF 56-0511 operated by International Air Response. They've released some of the footage on YouTube and it should be showing up on the TV soon. Links to a couple of the better ones so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2eRHLs2Mwc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-XPZH3OoOI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ealq_Tamdho&feature=relmfu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-XPZH3OoOI These are similar to the one we did for Advance Auto Parts last year using Honda Civics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyE7vjM6eC4 You can also see N121TG in the movi…

I received the message below via the Contact US e-mail account. Do any of you remember Ben Sager? Please help if you can. Casey Hi! My name is Becky Sager and I'm desperately searching for folks who served with my husband in the Air Force during Vietnam. He is ill and has undergone many surgeries and is trying to get compensation from the VA, but they say his records don't show his actual service while he was in Vietnam. The VFW and other organizations suggested we search for people who served with him. He was in the Air Force and was in the 21 TAS, Naha AB, Okinawa (PACAF) during July 1, 1967 thru May 3, 1968 and was assigned to the ground crew on Aircraft (C…

Like the rest of you guys, I am always looking for a new member that happens to be one of my old buddies at Naha , CCK, or Ubon. So far almost every day we have new members, but still not one of the guys I knew. I have noticed that almost every time I log in, there may be only a few members online and a whole bunch of visitors looking at the forum. So, since most of us have come across this forum by just looking for something involving the Herk, I am going to see if I/we can draw some of them in! I could add a whole list of names of guys that I would like to hear from but for now, lets try this. Remember me, Ken Carlson, from Columbus Montana I was stationed at Nah…

The C135 and its many variations I understand, really is not a military 707, but believed was derived from the 700 series, please correct me if I am wrong. What is the differences. I also understand that a batch were manufactured with a FE station and part of the crew. Which series was this and why when most did not have a FE did this series have them. Lastly is this model in service and do they still exist. Thanks Guys Col

Hallo everybody, i am currently planning to build a fullsize cockpit replica for hobby flight simming based on MS Flightsim. There are tons of informations out there in the web about Boeings and Airbuses, but not too much about the Hercules. So I wonder if this forum could be the right source of information for me. There are so many questions without answers, although there are many pictures available in the web. Pics tell a story about the look , but not about the feel. So here is my first question: In the Gear/Landinglight module are on the right upper side two indicator lights? labeled Motor and two 3-position? switches labeled extend/hold/retract. I assume th…
