ABCCC

Some time ago there was a discussion in this forum concerning the ABCCC birds in Vietnam. Even though I actually assisted in loading the module, both at CCK and at Danang I was told that I was mistaken, that the modules were loaded and hooked up in the States. Just the other day I stumbled upon some old pictures, and low and behold, there is a pic of the ABCCC mod being loaded. And it ain't at Hickam or anywhere else in the U.S. If I'm not mistaken, it's at Danang. I'll see if I can upload the pic to this post. If not it can be viewed in "My Gallery".

Hi, my cousin is interested in becoming an AC gunner. Do you have to be prior enlisted to do this job? What does an AC gunner actually do? Do they just Reload and fix malfunctions, or do they aim/ fire?

Well some lackey general has laid the deaths of the civilians killed at the doctors w/o borders hospital directly on the crew of the AC-130 gunship. They have been suspended from their duties. Where were all the ROE lawyers when the crew was cleared to fire? This does not bode well for future gunship crews as they may be reluctant to pull the trigger to help out the friendlies. Just my thoughts. A sad day for them. Bill

In this video (and some others) when the case doesn’t hit the floor, one of the gunners blocks the gun with the spent shell. Why? See approx time 2:42 in video. TIA, Herk

AC-130 Gunships Are Finally Getting A New 105mm Howitzer The AC-130's biggest gun is getting a makeover to make it more capable and reliable than its 1960s-era predecessor. By Joseph Trevithick January 20, 2022 USAF/USN The U.S. Navy recently announced that a team of its engineers had crafted an improved 105mm howitzer for use on the U.S. Air Force's AC-130 gunships. That service's remaining fleets of AC-130W Stinger II and AC-130J Ghostrider aircraft are currently armed with a modified version of a howitzer the U.S. Army first began fielding in the 1960s and that is no longer in operational use anywhere else in the U.S. military. Enginee…

The U.S. news media reported fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan on March 3, but said nothing about the Horn of Africa, where AC-130 gunships of Air Force Special Operations Command have been quietly helping in a small-scale, unorthodox war against extremists. Does anyone have any pics of Ghost Rider as it appeared in the 1992/1993 time frame? I was a GAC troop at Dyess AFB and it diverted in late one night for an RT289 change. The Pro Super couldn't get a hold of the comm/nav weekend duty person so they called me since I had comm/nav cross training. So, technically, I can say I worked on a AC-130A. I have found a few pic on the internet, but I don't know if they are the right period. Some pics have an overall gunship gray paint scheme with four bladed props, while other pics of it have it in a Shamu paint scheme with three bladed props. It's been over 20 years and my memory of that plane isn't that great, I do remember the ai…

I was watching a video on the AC-130H and noticed that the flight crew was wearing camo. Are these new camo flight suits or the regular BDU's?

Spookies Reprieved Four AC-130U Spooky gunships previously slated for retirement will soldier on to meet added operational demand in Iraq and Syria and cover for delays needed to put a 105-millimeter gun on the new AC-130J. "Because of the demand created by the new threat, I chose not to retire those airplanes—that's one reason, and the second is that the AC-130J was going to move to the right a little bit on the schedule," Air Force Special Operations Command boss Lt. Gen. Bradley Heithold said at ASC15. "The crews that are going to man the AC-130J are coming out of these legacy platforms, so the plan was to retire three AC-130Us in Fiscal Year 15 and two more…

From an e-mail forwarded by Dave LeMaster: AC-130U Gunship lands at LaGuardia I don't ever remember this happening before, but "Way to GO NY"! Our last AC-130 crew traveling home from Iraq was diverted to LaGuardia Airport for a mechanical problem. They were thankful that such a busy airport allowed them to land there. They were absolutely surprised and overwhelmed by the incredible "Heroes Welcome Home" that they received. The crew didn't expect any sort of fanfare, but you can see from the pictures that LaGuardia went all out. Thank you to those wonderful folks at LaGuardia who made our troops feel so special! Big article in this months Air Force Asso. mag about the AC-130W Stinger gunship getting 4 small diameter bombs under each wing(SDB) for a limited standoff precision strike capability. Also says they are testing Hellfire missles on the bird. Now THAT will be a kickbuttski gunship. The mag and article can also be accessed online. Waiting for pics. Bill

With USSOCOM/AFSOC losing its AC-27/JCA, I wonder what else is on the chopping block. It seems everytime you turn around something else is losing funding. http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2009/05/airforce_JCA_socom_050109/
