APU came from overhaul, ran through test cell - all good. Installed on aircraft, bleed air on, but no load, there is a 5 - 10psi pressure surge, small EGT and RPM flux. When a load is applied (eg aircon pack), it stabilizes. Removed and sent to test cell, again nothing could be found. Installed on another aircraft, has the same problem. Replaced the load control valve, but still the same. Anyone have any ideas ...??

30 March: Just had a problem with an engine shutting down uncommanded during taxi. This is not the first time this has happened. The crew took it this time because they started back up and it was fine; this engine is a problem child. If we could get some help on this we would all very greatly appreciate it. If any more info is needed just let me know. Thanks a lot! Here is some history on it: 25 Feb: #4 Secondary Fuel Pump Pressure Light Illuminated. Changed the Secondary Fuel Pump Pressure Switch, it taxied out and came right back with the same problem. We changed the switch again, along with the paralelling valve and high pressure fuel filter. Ops check good. …

Anyone seen an overpressure in the 3850-4000+ range? If so did your rudder boost (if flaps were up) increase but not to the overpressure valve (due to the de-boost)? I do not know the bypass capability of the pressure relief valve for the rudder but if it can bypass enough to limit the 3000 input to 1100 to 1400 output then a increase to the input of 1000 should not make a huge difference. Maybe the increase would be in the 1400 to 1600 caution range…. Any ideas?

Hi.... Because I have limited information about outer wing. Is it possible to change outer wing to KC (Tanker) aircraft actually it's a B-type aircraft with H-type outer wing due to retrofit program? Is there other KC-130 aircraft beside the B-type?

Friends, I am looking for someone who can help me to help some South African Air Force friends. They received some F models from USN and little to no data. Date received was circa 1996. They are primarily interested in the amount of mods (if any) performed to the OW's. If you know someone who would share their sagely wisdom please ask them to contact me at [email protected] or through this site. Sorry but this is not a paying gig; just a favor to some old Herc friends. thanks

Fun one. Induction run for Mod aircraft (KC130T) had a problem on #1. Above lights out, with either 2 or 3 selected as Master #1 would flux (increase) about 4000 in lbs. 500 pph, and about 125 degrees. But get this, RPM stable. De-selecting a master, or putting #1 in mechanical would fix the problem. Pitchlocked it a couple of times, but every time I would follow up with a re-index, same thing. Pitchlocks were normal. STABLE rpm was bugging me, but I asked to borrow a sync box for troubleshooting. Outgoing runs. borrowed sync box on hand, but not installed. #1 ran without problems. Could not duplicate the incoming discrepancy. Had some other stuff pop up...do…

How long have the leading edge ice detection markings been as large as they are now? On our CG aircraft we use 6 inch circles. I don't recall the change that started that... Thanks in advance!

I am looking for information on ordering new fab patch material. We are just about out of a HUGE roll of the stuff that we've had for years and nobody seems to have any of the info connected with it. So any help with PN or NSN of the stuff you guys/gals have been using would be appreciated! Thanks Fry

Hey guys, need some thoughts here. One of our birds is throwing a sh!t-fit, yawing to the left. Initially, props \'n engines were blamed, but after we changed the \'offending\' engine/prop combo and no result, the drawing board was called on. Since then, we have had all the control surfaces off, replaced the rudder, r/h aileron tab and l/h elevator tab. Also the aircraft was put through a full symmetry check. After todays FCF, the pilot told us he had to put in 7° rudder trim to stay straight after T/O, reducing to 4° for level flight, or do some serious pedal work. Also lined up torques at 14k and reduced #3 and #4 to 9400 before yawing stopped. Ai…

If you turn the battery on, with the bus not tied, and then apply external power and turn the switch on, every light and relay in the flight deck start flickering and chattering. The thing is, this happens when you start the APU with external power applied as well. This is on an MC-130W aircraft. (87 model). We've changed the external power contactor, the RCCR between the battery relay and the isolated DC bus, the battery relay, the DC/battery switch, phase sequence relay, a few diodes that checked bad, AC interlock relay, and checked all other diodes and fuses. THe funniest thing happened when we swapped phase sequence relays between two aircraft. One relay was an old…

Figured I would put this in a new thread to keep from causing too much thread creep on the TIT thread. I had a similar problem on a check ride one day in Germany. From beginning to end to worked like this. At briefing an evaluator shows up for a no notice check ride (first indication of a really crappy day). We flew to Zweibruken to pick up a squadron for a unit move to Bitburg (poor slobs were supposed to endure an 8 hour overwater for a free ride just down the street). On take off first indication something was wrong is torque (indication) started just going nuts, I had seen that before and it was gremlins in the indicator, usually could be fixed by pulli…

I have a question for the prop guys: as a crew chief, i was taught that when you feathered a prop, everything was shut off. hyd fluid, oil, elect, fuel, etc. A man by the name of Eric L Haney was a delta force operator and in his book,'inside delta force' he states that on that failed hostage rescue mission in iran in the middle of the desert in 1980, that the 130 he was on,'the engines continued to run,but the props were feathered'.All of my teaching says thats impossible. Or was he mistaken? Did they feather the props and he heard the GTC running? Would the crews even have shut down the eng's in that circumstance? Anyone know any extra info that they are allowed to share? …

Does anyone know the reason why Talon II has 2 dual level valves in the outboard 1 and 4 tank as opposed to 1 in a reg slick ? Is it something to do with it being a Uariss aircraft ?
