Hey, Anyone out there who was stationed with the 67th? I was maintenance, hydraulics, 1969 - 1972 there. Good duty and lots of good memories.

I read in an article that the MC-130W Combat Spear* airplanes, which are modified from H2s, have a reinforced back end to allow the HSLLADS. Does anybody know if the structural beef-up is the same as the Combat Talon I and the Combat Talon II airplanes, with extruded rails and doublers from FS737 to FS1041? *Combat Spear, no longer referred to as Combat Wombat

Center Wing Box

The availability of new center wing boxes from Lockheed seems to have the fate of many good airplanes in question. I really don\'t think that Lockheed actually builds the center wing box(maybe AVCO-Nashville), but rather, has a casting made by one supplier (to the Lockheed specification, naturally); and then Lockheed may do the machining, ie, drilling holes, grinding or milling surface areas; or they may even sub the machining out to their approved suppliers. The delivery rate is probably set to help control the cost--minimum premium time on the fabrication; standard delivery vs. expedited delivery of materials, etc. In a nutshell, the almighty dollar, controlling …

I was wondering if PACAF will replace their current H model C-130s with newer airplanes?. I ran into a 36th AS crewmember in 2009 who stated his unit was slated to receive Js,but with funding cuts, this has not so far happened. Maybe if a C-130J unit is disbanding at Little Rock, the displaced airplanes will replace the 1970s era C-130Hs at Yokota?.

Anybody out there remember "Slip Sticks"? During a recent air show I took a walk acound a "J" model. I asked the young Loadmaster if they were still in use. "No, but I've heard of them", he replied.

Read an article the other day in the USAF web site about a LC 130 J operating at McMurdo Station Antartica but talking to the movement boys in Christchurch they have not seen any through this season. Are there any out there?

Been thinking about the greatest adventure of my life lately (i.e. my time in Vietnam as a C-130 CC) and the question bubbled to the top....where did you guys go or hide when we had rocket attacks while you were on the flight line or your plane at Cam Rahn Bay? I don't remember ANY bunkers near the flight line. I know what I did when the rockets were coming in, which was to hug a piece of AGE equipment in the revetment and pray, but wondered about all the rest of the maint and flight crews who were caught on the flight line and what you did to try to protect yourselves. I know about the barracks, maint control and CC shack but what about on the open F/L. By the way that p…

I have come across some pictures of the AC-130H/U upside down. Appears to be a twisted engineers idea of a good time. Any ideas why this is?

Hi guys My name is Fred and i'd like to ask you all for a favor if that is possible. But first allow me to introduce myself. Im a pilot with the 501SQN back in Portugal (we're the only herc squadron here). I did my flight training in Laughlin AFB (07-07, Falcons and Mothers) and came back to fly the herc. When i was back in the US we used a publication (T-6 and T-38), maybe the most important one (so important that we knew it by heart), that was the Standard Operational Procedures or SOPs, that like the name says, encompassed all the procedures to do in different phases of planning, flying, and all around the activity that we pilots do. The thing is... I was hoping …

Hey all, I just wanted to throw this out there that so far I have been medically cleared to pursue my cross training into the Flight Engineer career field. After 10 years of \"Crew Dawg\" work and making TECH I hit my wall and cross road at the same time. I still have the whole approval process yet from AFPC, but so far things look good. I am getting pumped up again about a new path in my career. Any and all suggestions, comments, and tips are very much welcome. I\'ll keep you all posted. DaveB)

I think Lars Olausson is getting ready to prepare his final edition of the Lockheed Hercules Production List. He'll do it after the first of the year. As soon as I get the info on availability and price, I will post it but this will probably be your last chance to get a copy of this great book. Anyhow to get ready, I have been updating the Inventory. I can't post it here because it is in xls format but if you want a copy of the inventory, let me know your e mail address. If you have any updates that we can use on aircraft locations or unit changes please let me know. Thanks Bob

In an August update at AMARG noticed, 64-0499-probably beer cans- and 65-0979- an NC-130H are no longer listed. Also it looks like the sale of 6 USMC KC-130R's to Japan is going ahead. 160015 is no longer listed and 160016, 017, 018,020 are no longer in storage. Bob AMARG_Inventory_08.pdf

I seen this on the news and thought it was interesting so here is a link to the news video. # 1&2 eng. out landing and then blowing a tire after touch down, Every one one board and plane are ok it sounds like. Not the biggest story but not one that happens all that often. I'm sure many of you guys have some far more harrowing tales. http://www.kgwn.tv/story/22059264/c-130-makes-emergency-landing-at-cheyenne-airport

Can any one explain the difference in rough or unprepared fields for these two aircraft. Having some britt leading the push that the A400 can operate in worse field conditions than the C130 and C17. If I recall when we got the A models where we were shown a C130 operating in a soft field and they were so close to the ground level the doors were ploughing the field. Thanks Col

Hello All, I am currently in Afghanistan serving as a COMM troop. I recently put in an application to get out of COMM(Currently I am a 3D0X3..3C0X1..There was a merger.) It is a server guy. Anyway I was accepted to become a crew chief 2A531B! I have been in the Air Force for a little over 5 years and as soon as I get back to the states I will be starting Tech School in Sheppard. I have heard mixed things about the job but I am really looking forward to it to getting to work on the plane. I was just writing to see if any one had any advice for me or could tell me what I can expect coming into the career field. I am currently a Staff Sergeant. Does that make any differen…

From the Air Force Times: The performance of the Air Force’s new C-130J in intra-theater lift in places like Afghanistan is so remarkable that the service may replace the engines of its older-model Hercules aircraft to increase their fuel efficiency, the service’s second highest ranking uniformed leader said Wednesday. “Throughout the single-command area of operations, we have prioritized the use of newer, more efficient C-130Js for intra-theater airlift over older, less efficient C-130 models,†said Gen. Philip Breedlove, Air Force vice chief, at the U.S. Army & U.S. Air Force Energy Forum in Arlington, Va. “In fact, this difference is significant enou…
