We had an incident where one of the propellers on an aircraft went into an uncommanded reverse. Has anyone experienced this? It is the first time in (our) history that something like this has happened. It is still under investigation and is of huge concern to us because this incident happened on a pre-take-off run. Any suggestions/help will be appreciated!

GTC problems 1 2

I am having problems with a GTC not running without a boot pump. After the boost pump is turned off, about the time the manifold pressure gauge hits 5lbs the GTC dies. With a boost pump on the GTC will handle the load of the ATM and both AC packs on, the GTC will die with no load also as soon as the boost pump is turned off. I have checked the cracking pressure and it is at 61lbs, the armpit valve is working as it should. The gtc fuel filter was replaced and still no difference. Anyone ever had this problem?

I know that they are retracted by prop oil pressure, and that it takes 240-260 psi to retract them, but what causes the pressure to build to that level? (or keeps it from building to that level when you don't want it to?) My previous ride, the DC-6 had Hamilton Standards which had a very similar low pitch stop, but on that plane, the standard unaided governor pressure wasn't enough to retract the stops, you had to have higher Px oil from the electric feather pump, which was switched on when you pulled the throttles into reverse range. . No feather pump, no reverse. On the Herc, it seems (and maybe I'm missing something ) that the standard prop oil px is enough to…

Hello all, I was an RCAF Herk rigger in the late 70’s. I am trying to find a diagram or clear photo showing the location of the early blue formation lights located on top of the wing. If I recall, there were 4, 2 on each side, aft of the box spar. Flush mounted, probably about 3” in diameter with a cobalt blue lens. I am a model builder and want to light up my Herk. I remember them from when I was doing DI’s and was up top checking for cracks or damage to the surfaces. So these were CC-130E and H. This was before the slime lights. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Jeff

 What does anyone know about this. It has been discussed at great length at work. And there is debate over fact or myth. Where did this terminology come from? Any input would be great.

Hello all, I couldn\'t work out why my last topic for discussion was getting no responses. I now know why! New webpage. Anyway, has anyone ever experienced an engine rollback from a partial or full loss of the ESS AC BUS \'a\' phase circuit breakers (qty - one, two or three) on the 245 bulkhead. There is a note in our flight manual that talks about if a full or partial loss of the ESS AC BUS circuit breakers will or could cause a four engine rollback in torque by 2000 inlbs through a low voltage to the synchrophaser resulting in the speed bias motor reducing speeder spring tension and decreasing blade angle. It also talks about a low voltage to the TD amp resulting …

why do we LSGI for two minutes prior to shutdown.....I've know "save the turbines," "prevent clogging up the fuel nozzles" and "to eliminate coaking" Are all these equally valid reasons? If so what exactly is taking place; beside the obvious 69-75.5, bleed air valves opening etc. I don't understand how LSGI prevents "coaking".

We are trying to confirm if there are units still using the Benson tanks. This mainly applies to the MC/HC guys and gals. We keep getting conflicting information and the best way is to get it from the source if possible. Email me at [email protected] with your response please. HELLO,EVERYBODY. I WANT TO LEARN ABOUT C-130\'S ENGINES OIL (TECHNICAL INFORMATION) FROM YOU. WE USE MIL-L-7808 ENGINE OIL FOR OUR T56-A-15 ENGINES. T.O.1C-130B-1 SAYS MIL-L-23699 (AT NORMAL CONDITION) BUT MAINTANACE T.O.SAYS MIL-L-23699 OR MIL-L-7808(BOTH) WHICH TYPE OIL DO YOU USE? WHY? WHAT DIFFERENCE?BETWEEN MIL-L-7808 ENGINE OILS AND MIL-L-23699 ENGINE OILS? WHICH OF THEM IS GOOD FOR C-130\'S ENGINES? WHICH TYPE OIL DO YOU USE IN USAF OR IN THE OTHER FOREIGN MILITARIES?WHY DO YOU USE MIL-L-23699 OR MIL-L-7808? CAN YOU HELP ME? I NEED YOUR ADVISE.I WILL BE HAPPY.THANK YOU EVERYTHING.:)

Guys, just sort of consider the source here, and bear with me:unsure: I was looking at the picture of what appeared to me as a stretched C130, couple weeks ago here on the site, and my minds got to waundering back to CG\'s and so on. I am curious as to how dfferent the limits, ect are for a stretch versus the common old \"E\" I flew.are the stations still determined from in front of the nose? How much different are the H\'s and J\'s in reference to weight and balance, load planning, etc? No particular reason to want to know this stuff, just nostaglia I guess:lol: Load Clear

I was going thru the H-3 -1 the other night and noticed that there was a TCTO to remove the Engine LCD Gauges on 95-1001 and above ans replace them with analog. I was wondering if that was all of them or just select aircraft and for what reason. Spent some time in the desert with Minnesota a while back with the 95's and I loved those gauges, so much nicer than the analog.

Very pleased to announce that 4827 was airborne out of Sana'a at 07.30 this morning for a very successful FCF after 6 years on the ground. Many, many thanks to all the guy's that have helped me out with info, advice, part numbers etc over the last couple of years to make this flight possible. Aircraft returned to service 6 hours after landing. Once again, many thanks. Trev.

I think this is a technical question!! More than once at CRB my plane couldn't back out of the revetment with a full load. After many tries, Ariel Port would show up and take some of the load off and then it would make it out like usual and then it would have the removed cargo reloaded and all was good. I always wondered what caused that to happen. I guess I never asked or never received the answer I was looking for. I saw this happen to other planes also, so I assumed it was kind of normal! Was it just a weight issue or did it have something to do with temperatures or air density etc.? If I remember right, tow vehicle would fit through the opening in the revetment an…

BIRD NESTS
by JTECH- 22 replies
- 6.1k views
I am looking for any feed back from anyone about bird nests in engine nacelles, Specifically but not limited to J-Models. I know that the Canadian H-Models have screens installed on the upper aft nacelle and very rarely do they have nesting issues. We have had many instances of nests being built in lower trays, beside the oil tank and even once found robin eggs in the established nest. Any and all feedback is great.

I'm trying to locate a TCTO # for installing drain holes in the two small rectangular access panels outboard of the belly band. The panels are maybe 5" x 7" and cover a 1" elbow for urinal drain line. I've checked a few acft here at WR and have discovered some acft have the drain holes and some do not. I'm told the holes resulted from a TCTO, but no one seems to recall the #. Not even sure of the time frame for the TCTO...if I had time frame, engineers could search the data base a little easier. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott

Got a turbine overheat indication on the T-handle and on the instrument panel and I can't figure out where my problem is. I've checked all four of the detectors in the clam shell (checked good) and installed a new keyer but those dang lights in the T-handle keep blinking. Any help ya'll can provide would be great.
