Need a little Jet troop help. I have an aux pump feather motor missing some sort of set screw. The set screw goes into the aft part of the motor at 2 o'clock position on the rear mounting ear. I am thinking that this may be an internal adjustment port from the manufacturing company. Any Suggestions to what this is would be greatly appreciated since Im flying with the darn thing.

The model is a C-130H. Its LH AUX Fuel Pump is rated 38psi(static-no demand). During flight and as long as crossfeed valves are opened this pressure drops. Finally with the AUX pump ON and four crossfeed valves open the output press is 20psi, causing the AUX tank empty light to illuminate. The three solenoids of the pump were measured and found ok. But, suspecting an internal mechanical failure of the pump, the pump was replaced. The discrepancy remained after the following flight. More careful inspection revealed a damaged pressure hose(the one connected on the pump). The damage was not so obvious, since it was in the internal part of the hose. Anyway, the hose was repl…

I'm looking for an installation drawing to build up and old "pip" connnector style Aux Fuel Qty harness for a C-130E, 1963 model. The aircraft missed the tank modification for the terminal type connections and has an older style harness that is not in the JEDMIX that we can find. We are trying to prevent a couple days extra down-time to use the old harness as a template, so all we need is the lengths of the cables to build one up prior to going in tank. Any info would be appreciated!

Why hydraulic oil for auxiliary system more than utility and booster?

Recently, we had an issue with the Aux hydraulic system while operating the cargo ramp. While manually operating the ramp in position 4, the the ramp would begin to lower uncommanded. The original thought was the return line check valve was bad. However, after canning one from another plane to trouble shoot, the same issue was occurring. During all other phases of manual operation, the ramp was operating perfectly, locking pressure was at about 650psi, unlocking was 720psi. Virtually everything was changed out and the problem was still occurring. We finally decided to open up the doghouse panel and found the ramp locking cylinder was bypassing, but only in manual…

We have experience a few incident of LH Aux FQI went to off-scale LOW on two aircraft. When open tank and found the Fuel Qty Compensator cracked and dislodged. Subsequent check found the bladder cell actually collapse as the strings tie the cell to the structure have given way. Have anyone experience this. Can the Aux Tank pump pressure caused the problem when the tank is empty ie. the pump running.

We get an "Ice detection level 2 " ACAWS under no icing conditions and the plane goes to Ice protection mode. We isolated the fault to a bad Ice Detector, but unable to determine which one out of the two due to the following reasons- (a) ACAWS appears in flight. ( The ACAWS doesn't say no.1 or no.2 Ice detector. Is there a quick and easy way to isolate the faulty Ice detector? We replaced one of them hoping the problem won't reappear......

Ballast Fuel

Brothers, I am putting together a NATOPS change to include an easy to understand definition of \"Ballast Fuel\". Our NATOPS does not mention it at all. This has been a source of much debate and a soure of confusion to trainees. I am a Little Rock trained FE and was trained on this. The new trainees are not being tought TOLD data the same. My understanding is to use the Fuel Management charts to find the required landing fuel in the wings for a specific cargo weight. Then to get your g load factor and max airspeed. Which is usually only a factor in the decent. I understand that this is usually only a consideration over approx. 30k cargo. Further, my unders…

Battery Relay With Battery voltage less than 7 volt; is it possible for the battery to be recharged with external ac power? Systematically… is the “Bat. Relay” can only be energized through a good charged battery..? Or it doesn’t matter; as this relay can also be energized through external power for feeding the “Bat.Bus” as well for recharging the battery. Any feedback will be appreciated as we are having an issue of one of the C-130H.

We are trying to confirm if there are units still using the Benson tanks. This mainly applies to the MC/HC guys and gals. We keep getting conflicting information and the best way is to get it from the source if possible. Email me at [email protected] with your response please. BIRD NESTS

I am looking for any feed back from anyone about bird nests in engine nacelles, Specifically but not limited to J-Models. I know that the Canadian H-Models have screens installed on the upper aft nacelle and very rarely do they have nesting issues. We have had many instances of nests being built in lower trays, beside the oil tank and even once found robin eggs in the established nest. Any and all feedback is great.

All, Got a question for some of you. I was asked today what the blade angle was when we put the prop on the cuff for windmill taxi starts? I didn't have a clue, but was curious if it is above the pitchlock range (25-55 degrees)? Inquiring minds are curious. Laters! Dave
