Has anyone been to Greybull WY in awhile? This is a google earth image from last year. None of them are registered any more. The 6 visible herks are from the left The grey one is 3220 ex 57-0513 ex N8230H The next 2 wingless are 3218 ex 57-0511 ex N134HP and 3166 ex 57-0459 ex N135HP Then the green one almost in one piece is 3115 ex 56-0507 ex N132HP The one looking like it is held down by tires is 3143 ex 56-0535 ex N133FF And the one with just the forward fuselage is 3537 ex 58-0740. Anyone able to update this and has anyone heard what they plan to do with them? Looks like beer cans to me. Thanks Bob It appears that 57-0459 is to the left of 57-0511!

The Air Force plans to launch an initiative in Fiscal 201l to acquire 16 new gunships based on modified, new-build MC-130J special operations tankers that are outfitted with a "precision strike package" to give them an attack capability, according to newly released budget documents and defense officials. The Air Force is requesting $1.6 billion from Fiscal 2011 through 2015 for this recapitalization. These aircraft would increase the size of the Air Force's highly taxed gunship fleet to 33 aircraft, a net increase of eight, after accounting for the planned retirement of eight aging AC-130Hs, Vice Adm. Stephen Stanley, director of force structure and resources on the Joint…

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/10/search-underway-for-survivors-off-military-aircaft-crash-off-southern-california-coast.html Looks like a Coast Guard Herk and a Marine Cobra attack helicopter crashed off the cost of San Diego here in California. Just heard on the local news that they are looking for 9 aircrew members, I hope they are ok.

While viewing NBC Nightly News last evening I was dismayed; then not so surprised, when I saw Merrill McPeak supporting Obama:dry: Then, to add to my disgust, Hillary was bragging about landing on a hot LZ back in the \'90\'s. Oh my......this is going to get better and better.

Just a quick post to let people know that if they are looking for old friends from years ago (about 37 yrs.), don\'t give up! Recently one of my best friends in the AF found me on the Hercules Forum, and since then we have located another of our good friends! We have been wearing out our computers sending messages and pics back and forth and WILL eventually get together again!!! We were all stationed at CCK together and hope we can locate some more of our buddies! We are: Ken Carlson, Steve Mudge, and Dennis (Red) Guinane. Also, I am still looking for my friends from the 35th TAS at Naha (67-69), and the Blind Bat crew pictured in the Blind Bat section on these forums!…

189th retires its last C-130E to ‘boneyard’ Vintage airplane heads to Arizona desert By Amy Schlesing Arkansas Democrat Gazette LITTLE ROCK — Chief Master Sgt. Donald O’Conner, like the rest of the crew, asked to fly Tail 7811 of Arkansas’ C-130 fleet Monday on its final mission - to the U.S. Air Force’s airplane “boneyard†at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. It’s unusual for an airman of his rank to still fly the old bird called Hercules. He’s the flight engineer superintendent for the 154th Training Squadron of the Arkansas National Guard’s 189th Airlift Wing, where he spends more time supervising flight engineers than actually flyin…

Last count there were about 43 E models still flying in the USAF. A few questions: Anyone know what the future is for the PRANG? I did not see them on the C-27 lists. Why are there 2 E model squadrons at Little Rock in AMC 53 and 61 when AMC has only about 18 E's? Just slots for lt col's? What does AFSOC do with the 3 slick E's at Hurlburt? 62-1857 and 63-7815 and 16. Haul trash? If it is a secret don't answer. Last count AETC 16, AMC 18, AFSOC 3, PRANG 6 Bob

I used to see this airplane at TSN all the time. Flying back and forth to Hanoi. I was told it was a Boeing 247. It look like a four engine DC-3 to me. I looked up Boeing 247 and it was a two engine airplane. Anyone know what it is? Thanks Bob

It's all too infrequent that I hear comments like what I heard this afternoon and I want to pass along a heart warming story. Stopped in at the local "monument" store to check up on the headstone that Mary and I ordered for our cemetery plot as I'm having the image of the C-130 engraved on it. In the course of the conversation, the owner, about my age (somewhat ancient), says to me; "That's a C-130, right? Yes, reply's I. He says: I was a young Army officer in Vietnam in 1968, and whenever we climbed into a 130 we knew we were safe. You guy's were great, and the C-130 was a safe haven for us. We army guys loved it....... says a lot, huh!?!?

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, OGDEN — A C-130 performed an emergency landing at Hill Air Force Base on Sunday afternoon. The aircraft declared an inflight emergency and landed around 1 p.m. Sunday, according to a press release from Hill Air Force Base’s Office of Public Affairs. "The aircraft was on a firefighting mission when the air crew became aware of a potential malfunction with the nose landing gear. The crew then executed an emergency landing," said Army Major Beth Smith of U.S. Northern Command. The aircraft sustained minor damage, but none of the six crewmembers on the plane were injured, Smith said. The C-130 came from the 1…

I was trying to update my list of Herks in Museums or on display. Can anyone help with these questions? I looked on the net at the Hurlburt Museum and a site said that 84-0476 an MC-130H was in the Hurlburt Airpark. Last I heard it was still flying? 65-0994 MC-130P was supposed to go into the Hurlburt Airpark. Has it? 65-0988 HC-130P was supposed to go on display at Moody. Has it? 62-1801 C-130E was reported as going to Fort Campbell. Did it? Thanks for any help. Bob BTW if anyone has pics of these, could you post them?

Haven't been around much at all the past few months. Lots of reasons why, no one reason, but pile them all up and I just haven't made it here. Anyway, last week Wednesday just outside of Butte, Montana I saw something amazing. Two C-130 fuselages each wrapped in blue shrink wrap, each strapped to a BNSF RR flat car headed west. As we were headed east to Columbus and a visit with Ken I did not turn around and follow. Anyone out there (Bob?) have any idea of what was going on? By the way, I did not see any wings, stabilizers, landing gear, etc. tinwhistle aka Chris
