Why we set 910 TIT during the temp control checks on -15 engines flight manuals? 910 TIT is 70 degress higher than the highest crossover limit. The -7 engines have the same spread. I have spoken to several maintenance and Rolls-Royce representatives and the answer I get is if you are in the controlling range it doesn't matter what you set. I have read many maintenance job guide and old flight manuals all the way back to the 1980s and they all show 910. Does anyone know why it is such an odd number?

The U.S. news media reported fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan on March 3, but said nothing about the Horn of Africa, where AC-130 gunships of Air Force Special Operations Command have been quietly helping in a small-scale, unorthodox war against extremists. For the full story follow this link: http://www.armytimes.com/community/opinion/airforce_backtalk_gunships_042808/

Anybody seen this video of a J-model getting blown up in Iraq after an accident? I guess it mush be RAF. I hadn't heard of us losing any J-models. http://shock.military.com/Shock/videos.do?displayContent=184137&ESRC=airforce.nl After a 30 second search in Google I found this story. This is old but interesting nonetheless. http://www.f-16.net/news_article3220.html

A friend of mine just posted a virtual flight he did with a C-130 on YouTube. I have this same model I use in Microsoft Flight Simulator and I have to tell you it is pretty realistic - to the point if you don't follow the checklist you can't get the thing started. Fuel, hydraulics, electrical systems all work like the real thing. For those not familiar VATSIM is a system of worldwide servers where you can log in and file a flight plan and then contact ATC (real humans) who will provide instructions just like int he real world. As computers get to the point of handling more the software seems to keep up. My last real world flight was back in 1985 with th…

I checked Snoops.com and couldn't find anything on this there. I know who I won't be sending $$ to anymore. See this web site for ratings: http://oversight.house.gov/documents/20071213131834.pdf Among other things, the rating chart shows fund raising costs per $100 raised for each charity. Some of the figures are truly shocking! Americans gave millions of dollars in the past year to veterans charities designed to help troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, but several of the groups spent relatively little money on the wounded, according to a leading watchdog organization and federal tax filings. Eight veterans charities, including some of the nation's larg…

I got a picture of a C130 wreck at I think Camp Halloway near Pleiku. A long time ago I heard it crashed at Pleiku and some Viet Namese were living in it at Halloway. I have never been able to confirm it but there were only 2 Herks, that I know of, lost near Pleiku. 61-0953 lost landing short March 66, and 61-0972 shot down east of Pleiku January 66. My guess is it would be 953, anyone know for sure? Thanks Bob

Found this on a helicopter site, but i'm sure with a few tweaks would work just fine for Herks. Rather funny. HOW TO OPERATE A HELICOPTER MECHANIC By William C. Dykes A long, long time ago, back in the days of iron men and wooden rotor blades, a ritual began. It takes place when a helicopter pilot approaches a mechanic to report some difficulty with his aircraft. All mechanics seem to be aware of it, which leads to the conclusion that it's included somewhere in their training, and most are diligent in practicing it. New pilots are largely ignorant of the ritual because it's neither included in their training, nor handed down to them by older drivers. Olde…

Got some answers, all 3 are still in development testing at Edwards. Development testing ends in April . After D testing all 3 will end up at LRF ANG. St Joe and then Pope will be the first 2 units. Bob A while back we talked about AMP. There were three H's involved 91-1239 from Louisville 89-9101 from Youngstown via Maxwell 94-6704 from WV via LRF Have they finished testing? Have they gone back to their units or what units are they going to? What is the status of the AMP program, is it going ahead? Thanks Bob

Just scanned a slide of one of my buddies at CCK changing a brake on 62-1804. Probably in 1969. His name is John Chase. He was also awarded with a consecutive overseas tour shortly after I received mine! We both were at Naha in the 35th before coming to CCK. Enjoy and remember, Ken

After 47 years of service without a single hit, a C-130 with the 386th Expeditionary Operations Group here has flown its last combat mission and will be retired to the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. Airmen in the 386th EOG and 386th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron celebrated the retirement of aircraft no. 1847 by dousing the aircraft with a deluge of water from two fire trucks as it taxied in from its final mission. "She's a good plane," said Capt. Kevin Graham, 737th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron aircraft commander. "We never had any problems with her." Captain Graham flew 1847 on numerou…
