I was wondering if anybody knows the reason why they decided to use the Lockheed Fowler flap system on the C130. My best guess is that they were trying to increase lift and decrease stall speeds for airdrops, but I'm wondering if there is a more specific reason. Any input appreciated -D.T.

In early January 63-7823 was flying in AMC at Little Rock with a lot of time until it had to be grounded. Tuesday it showed up at DM. It was not inducted into AMARG but was towed right into the ARM yard. It is supposed to be "being prepared for road transport". Anyone know why it was sent out to Tucson even though it seemed to have a lot of time on it? Anyone know where it is going? Or why it was not processed through AMARG? Thanks Bob I'll try to attach some pictures from the Wombat.

A fairly new member to this site from Sarasota, FL sent me these photos. His name is Frank Kagele. It's quite a project and will hopefully fly this sometime in the next few months. It's built in 1/12th scale and has a 134" wingspan. It has functional fowler flaps, ramp, air deflector doors and an engine sync system. It's powered by 4 English 4-stroke .91 ci engines and weighs about 50 pounds. He's also fitting it to do a LAPES! Frank, if you have anything to add, please join in. Don R.

I was lucky enough to meet Bobby Dugger and this great aircraft this weekend and began to wonder what she looked like in those Vietnam days. I have a C-130 kit (the Italeri H version) and was thinking of building it to reflect the aircraft from that harrowing mission. Can anyone help with info or pictures? Many thanks in advance!

Hi I just got an update on the J's and had a couple of questions? Two Baltimore J's 97-1352 and 98-1355 were reported as flying with the 48AS? A while back it was reported that Baltimore would be BRAC'd and its J's would go to the 48 AS since they were going to use the short J's as trainers. Is this what is happening or are the J's just there on loan? When is Baltimore going to lose all its J's? 94-8152 was reported as returned to Channel Island from 48AS. That did not seem to make sense since it is a short J and CI already has 8 J-30's. Also heard that St Joe MO was going to get 8 H2.5's from Mansfield and give up its H2's The H2's were mentioned as going to San…

Can anyone provide a list of all active duty Air Force Bases with C-130's? I have heard it has changed since I got out in 2004, via the force restructuring.

Sent in via e-mail by Herktoublefixer--Casey The below was sent to me from a friend presently on assignment in the Sand-Box. Sir: I am D. J. Baker and I would appreciate it if you could tell me what it takes to be an F-16 fighter pilot in the USAF. What classes should I take in high school to help the career I want to take later in life? What could I do to get into the Air Force Academy? Sincerely, DJ Baker ********************************************* From: Van Wickler, Kenneth, Lt Col , HQ AETC Anybody in our outfit want to help this poor kid from Cyberspace? I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of these H2s. They are going through conversion to WC-130s down at Dobbins? I worked them when thy were slicks at Charlie West, 130th AW. I would really love to see 1302, 1306 and 1307. 88-1307 was my plane. Hope the Special ops guys have as good of a time on them as we did. Thanks

Saw this from Ernie ODE TO THE HERCULES AVIATOR by Bob Woods Do not stand at my Tomb and weep for me I am not there for I do not sleep you see I am the thousands of Hercs that fly I am the roar of the wind on high I am the rush of a Herc in powered flight I am the beacons that shine in the night I am the odor of jet fuel and the starter whine I am the tire squeal on a landing, that was mine I am the stars that shine at night I am the sun you see at first light I am the jeweled glints on rime covered wings Think of me kindly for I am all these things At my graveside you should not have cried For so long as Hercs fly, I have not died.
