I had a picture hanging around taken by Dave Mann. It showed a damaged A model on the ground at Dalat. I just recently got a request for information about 62-1853 lost at Soc Trang in 1972. One of the crew members killed was a Major Jerry Dean Vance. There was also a picture of Major Vance standing in front of what i think is the same A Model. Major Vance was based at CCK in E\'s when He was killed but he had been at Naha in A\'s before. I have never found annything showing an A model lost at Dalat, so I guess it was repaired and flew out? Does anyone know the story of this aircraft and which aircraft it was? Thanks Bob [img size=550]http://www.herkybirds.com/i…

Which one of you lucky folks are flying the bird in the commercial? The aircraft is not the main feature of the commercial, but I thought it should be given attention. The commecial for the game is on the page. As well as some links to a FLKR set from the commercial http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/10/20/motorstorm-pacific-rift-one-week-until-the-invasion/

This is a little off the beaten path but still airlifter business. Trying to find a hook up that has experience with personnel airdrops out of C-7 Caribous. Air Force took possession from the US Army o/a 67 and did some personnel airdrops with the Bou primarily in SEA. Trying to find hung jumper retrieval procedures. Supposedly procedures were in the PACAF TACM 55-27. Anyone on the Canadian side or Australian side have current or past procedures that would be willing to pass them would be an immense help. Anyone know where a 40 year old pub could be found archived or on line? Purpose is to use these procedures to pass a USASOC inspection for DoD contract jump aircraft. Th…

Okay, I\'ve been out of the game for a bit. I live on Scott AFB and I see a few herks come in. The other day I saw a short J model with a green tail stripe, which should be Channel Islands CAANG, but last I saw, they had stretched J models. Anyone know if they got some short Js from Baltimore? Also, who operates J models? The list I have (in my mind) is: Little Rock Channel Islands Rhode Island Baltimore Maryland (BRAC) Keesler Am I missing anyone?

SOUTHERN HOME SECURITY SYSTEM 1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men\'s work boots, used, size 14-16. $2.00 2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine. Magazine - $3.00 3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazine. $5.00 4. Leave a note on your door that reads: Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke and Slim: I went for more shotgun shells and to pick my check up from the slaughterhouse. I should be back in an hour. Don\'t mess with the Pit Bulls--don\'t know what got into them, but they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don\'t think Killer took part in it but it wa…

OK all you old timers (loads and chiefs), here\'s an odd question for you. Does anyone remember that horrible disinfectant that they gave us when we rotated back to CCK from in country? It was used to clean out the cargo compartment from the stench of transporting KIAs and WIAs.As I recall, it came in a 5 or 6 gallon bucket and I used a broom to swish it around to disinfect and deodorize the aircraft, and it was horrible. Took your breath away and brought tears to your eyes. I\'d like to know if any one remembers that stuff and maybe even some kind of name or other information...thanks guy\'s. Chris

Does anyone know if the RAF C.1P\'s & C.3P\'s kept their designations when they were sold to Austria (3), Mexico(4) & Sri Lanka(2). Or did these countries revert back to the C-130K designation? Thanks, Don R.

This isn\'t really Herc related although I\'m sure there are some Guard & Reserve pilots out there who are also airline pilots; also retired active duty. I just received the followng from a retired DC-10 captain friend of mine. It says a lot about today\'s airlines. Don R. In the age of the 707 and the CV-880 Those were the good ole days. Pilots back then were men that didn\'t want to be women or girlymen. Pilots all knew who Jimmy Doolittle was. Pilots drank coffee, whiskey, smoked cigars and didn\'t wear digital watches. They carried their own suitcases and brain bags like the real men that they were. Pilots didn\'t bend over into the crash positi…
